When the guy you’re dating cancel on you on your birthday.
I hate birthdays
Have I mentioned it’s my birthday ?
I hate that I’m so skeptical and untrusting of good things. The guy I’m dating could easily be my future husband. But my brain is telling me that I shouldn’t trust him. I start thinking of the future then I calm myself because I truly can’t handle the disappointment.
I can't wait for outlander to come back !! Spoon
Humanity is hard. It’s messy. It hits you in the gut just when you think everything is good. It smirks at you when you’re down. It asks more of you. Every. Damn. Day.
Humanity will make you wonder about these complicated and frankly weird humans. Why do they hate us? Why do they pretend not to hate us? Why, why.. would they throw their lives away just to take away ours?
And then, once in a while, humanity is the magic that makes the space rock we all call home, a paradise in a sea of darkness. Once in a while, humanity makes life the greatest adventure in the Universe. It seems to accomplish this seemingly impossible feat when we stand together, with people who are together-within-themselves. Or who, at the very least, want to be.

I’m so tired that I can’t even get out of bed. I have to make food for my meal and shabbos starts so early ! I’m so unprepared
I have a thing for Persian guys look wise and I really need to come to the terms that they rarely marry out even though the guy in question says his family approves of me.
I watched Disobedience the other day and .... honestly all I could think was WTF the entire time
One of them is 20yrs old and she’s dating a 26yr old. They’ve probably been actually “dating” for 2 months. Earlier today she texted “it’s happening” and sent me two pictures of engagement rings. So of course I asked how she knew it was happening. She basically explained that she texted her bf , pretending to be me ... (like wtf) and asked him “when are you going to put a ring on it?” He apparently responded “in the very near future”. Now of course she’s typing as herself asking if he’s legit. He was like “sure, you know your ring size right?”
So chica goes out and gets herself sized then she messaged me asking if I would go look at rings with her. Normally I would be happy for a friend but 1) I don’t think this guy is legit 2) I don’t think she’s mature enough for marriage 3) they hardly know each other.
Now I’m not saying they hardly know each other because they’ve known each other for 2 months. I’m saying that because he tried to take her for dinner and she said she didn’t want to go.. because that would be weird. Seriously? It’s weird sharing a meal with someone you want to marry ??? This guy plays fortnite and smokes weed 24/7 .. I just can’t see it.
I don’t see it happening or think it should happen. But I’m trying to be a “good” friend and it’s making me so angry.
But I want a milkshake
So I’ve been having a tough couple of days but some really good things happened over shabbos (shabbos is magical hello!!) . Let’s be real, I’m always the black girl in a sea of my white friends. I normally don’t mind. My whole conversion was basically a crash course of learning how to be the “other”. But my friend group here in Brooklyn is pretty amazing. I’ve been hearing about this girl from them soooo much. I was a little jealous. This past shabbos I met her. The first thing she said to me “it’s so good to see someone who looks like me”. Now it could’ve been the pms (I know tmi) or just the statement. But I felt very emotional. She was really happy to see me. A girl with brown skin and curly hair. AND we clicked — not because we shared the same skin tone but because she was just really cool.
It makes me emotional when people say things like to me, not because of where I come from or my background. It’s just that there are so many Jews of color. I went to Baltimore and there were two African American families and one Asian family. I watched them and I wanted to see if they felt any uncomfort but they were so happy and accepted. It was literally amazing.
When I meet someone who looks like me and their unbothered and they are unapologetic I just fall in love. I’m Black and I’m Hispanic. I love every part of my heritage and I love hashem. When I meet people with my story or perhaps just a person who can relate it’s amazing...
That’s alll lol thought I’d share that.
I always feel super accomplished when I manage to prep and cook a shabbos meal before 9 am. Like “go Shosh! Go Shosh” lol
I cannot actually believe I'm already planning to host a shabbos meal. I am sooo tired. I was home first days with friends and it was great. We randomly decided we should spend second days in Baltimore with a friend of ours. The drive to Baltimore lasted longer than anticipated and when we finally arrived to where we were in a time crunch to get ready for yon tiff. As soon as I open my suitcase, the bottle of wine I wanted to give to my host, shatters and wine is everywhere. So it was super stressful.
The weather was also crazy! It was so hot and I packed for crappy Brooklyn weather. So I had to make my outfits work with the heat and comfort. There were a lot of new and kinda confusing things in Baltimore. It’s always cool to visit new communities I guess.
Things I noticed but didn’t know how I felt about.
- the mechitza was very low meaning barely there
- elbows are in style
- hats instead of sheitals (actually found it cool)
I also noticed that Brooklyn Jews are just very different and our culture is very New York style. Every time I go out of town, I see way more diversity and I notice people are more open and just kinder than I’m used to. I could honestly tell the real Baltimore peeps from the New York transplants by If they said gut shabbos or not. The community was so different. People would introduce themselves holding other people’s children lol and they were just like that’s how it is here, we’re a family.
Over all it was a great trip despite us getting a flat tire on the way home and my roommate basically cursing me out because I didn’t reply to her text in the frame of time she wanted.
Never a dull day. I’m ready for sleeps
