Chile Volcano
4/24/2105.
As you may have heard, 2 days ago, a volcano has erupted in Chile for the first time in almost half a century. The pictures are incredible from a meteorologist’s standpoint, however I could NOT imagine what it would be like for the people living in this area. Ash is accumulating like snow in some areas, building up so much that roofs and signs are collapsing.
Here is where this volcano is located.
Zooming in, you can see the volcano is located near quite a few bodies of water; it is located southeast of Llanquihue Lake and northwest of Chapo Lake, and to its west is the vast Pacific Ocean. This creates a risk of water contamination as the ash travels into all the bodies of water.
Now let’s see the crazy cool pictures associated with this intense eruption.
Volcano eruptions often lead to lightning strikes over the volcano due to the extreme amount of energy in such a small area.
Amazing picture at sunset. This eruption traveled 6 miles into the atmosphere!
I would love to see this extravagant feature in person.
People who did not evacuate are encouraged to wear masks.
So much ash... If you don’t remove it from your roof, your roof could collapse. These men work hard to get all the ash off of their home. It looks as if the ash has accumulated up the their ankles!!
It seems near impossible to drive in when there is as much ash as there is here. Note that the ash isn’t just ash from a cigarette that we think about... Ash from volcanos includes not only dust, but all the rocks from the volcano and even molten magma, called igneous rocks and much more. As all of this ash and rocks accumulates, you can see the mess it can create.
And it can be very hard to see when driving. Imagine being on a gravel road, where all the dust comes up as you drive on it.
This ash in the air has created a haze over much of the cities near the volcano eruption.
Visible Satellite image showing the huge ash plume spreading ash everywhere and anywhere that it can.
Mostly everyone has been evacuated, which is smart not only because of how dangerous getting around is but also because of the many health problems it can create. No injuries or deaths have been reported from this, but if people don’t evacuate, they could see skin and breathing issues develop rather quickly.
I would love to visit this erupting volcano, but NO WAY would I want to stay/live in that area. Thoughts and Prayers to all affected.
