Hey guess whats in my gif collection now
last summer when i saw phantom, i was sitting next to an older lady and when there was the gunshot before the don juan performance, i could hear her whisper “dear me”
This might sound like an absolutely dumb question, but does anything special happen at the last performance of a Phantom actor? :)
Europe has a strong tradition for this. I’ve understood closing/last night pranks is less common in the US? I remember discussing it over at musicals.net and the American members were shocked this was a thing and said people would get fired for it in the US. But in Europe it’s a really old tradition. Don’t know about the rest of the world. Closing/last night pranks is basically the ultimate test of how good an actor/actress you are. Your co-players will do something to make you laugh or even shock you, and it’s your job to not react. It can be done on stage, in a joke the audience will not understand, or in an angle where they will not see it. But usually it’s done in the wings (and usually tasteful, the most vulgar I’ve heard of is mooning). These pranks usually don’t leak, but observant fans who’s seen the show has some stories: *Two Passarinos in Don Juan in West End. *Celia Graham (who by then had left Phantom), in drag, sitting with Raoul in box 5 during “Il Muto”. *Instead of wearing the Man/Woman costume, the male dancer wore a Hannibal Slavegirl costume and curly wig:
*One of the male cast members substituting for Christine in “Down once more” - dressed in the wedding dress and wig, but never facing the audience. I think the Phantom was John Owen-Jones. *Tomas Ambt Kofod (Raoul in Copenhagen) with a fake Christine tattoo peaking out from his ripped Final Lair shirt:
oh my god i need more of these
