Lottie stood in the heart wrenching silence like a statuess, unmoving. She felt exposed, she felt vulnerable. She just admitted she had feelings for him without any indication that he returned them, besides the kiss which she was still waiting for the answer behind that. Lottie chuckled at the sound of him stuttering, “I don’t play games, you asked and I told you the truth because that’s us.” To Lottie the word us sounded foreign, what is us, the context of the word completely changed, had the definition? Us, Erik and Lottie, but there were so many variations as to what that and that was carelessly placed between their names would signify, variations that could define them. Lost in her panicky thoughts, she almost forgot to listen when Erik spoke. Through her peripheral vision she saw him approach her. “I have feelings for you.” at hearing that she spun around to face his stupid smiling self. Unable to contain it, she uttered a small shy grin, her cheeks tinting, but the look in her eyes made up for it. They twinkled, they said all the things that she couldn’t put into words. “You’re idiotic.” she mocked, placing her hand over his which layed gentley on her cheek. This is what she loved about them, the new Erik and Lottie, they could have these disgustingly cute moments and still tease eachother. Lottie couldn’t think of how to respond to what he said without embarassing herself so she was relieved when he closed the space between them. She moved her hands from where they were resting and ran them through the hair at the nape of his neck. As they pulled apart Lottie could still feel his breath warming her and giving the chills all at the same time. “I think I can learn to live with it.” she whispered back, looking up at him through her thick eyelashes proved to be a challenge, so instead she closed the gap between them again. “And again.” She said into the kiss.
Returning the kiss he smiled happily, starting to laugh while his lips still kissing hers. Backing away a little bit he looked at her with a smile that was a mix between a smile you have after your first time having sex and a smile after few shots. His eyes were a little watery, cheeks red, he was burning up, unable to wipe a dumb smile off of his face, “You know, this,” Erik said gesturing between the two of them, “Once we start working, this is going to be a problem.” Trying to fake seriousness, and failing, he continued, “I mean, we are supposed to be professionals but I won’t be thinking about a case and importance of someones life or family home or custody of a tiny child, I will be thinking about you.” He told her, “But, then I do think about you often, a lot actually so nothing will change? Wait, except now I will be thinking about kissing you, a lot.” Letting out a giggle he took her hand, “So,” The started all flustered, “What does this mean then?” He cursed himself the moment he said that because it was probably too soon to ask that, they were best friends ten minutes ago, five minutes ago they had their first kiss and now he was jumping to important questions and that meant that his mind was jumping to conclusions and every possible answer she could give him so him being able to hear his heart racing wasn’t that surprising.
