BIOGRAPHY
Erik Alexander Nyström was born on May 8th, 1984, in Kismet Harbor, Oregon, the firstborn to Lars and Astrid Nyström, proud Swedish immigrants who had settled in the close-knit coastal town. From the start, Erik was a bundle of energy, always on the move, climbing furniture before he could walk and inventing games in the backyard with his younger siblings — Magnus and the identical twins, Annika and Ingrid.
Bright and creative, Erik did well in school, particularly excelling in art, technology, and design classes, though he often struggled to sit still for long periods. Diagnosed with ADHD at a young age, Erik’s parents encouraged his love of sports, which became both an outlet and a passion. He was involved in track and field, soccer, and the school’s ski club, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and adrenaline-fueled activities.
During high school, Erik began dating Victoria Fletcher, a fellow creative with a love for photography. Their relationship was easy and full of adventure, with Erik pulling Vic along on spontaneous camping trips and Vic capturing their memories behind the lens. They stayed together after high school, both attending local colleges, with Erik pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Digital Design and Vic building her photography portfolio.
College was a period of growth for Erik — both personally and professionally. His love for design flourished, and his technical skills caught the attention of professors and freelance clients alike, allowing him to build a remote freelance career even before graduating.
However, as Erik’s desire for freedom and travel grew, it became clear that his and Vic's visions for their futures no longer aligned. Erik craved constant motion, while Vic's wanted a stable studio and gallery space to showcase her work. Though their breakup was amicable, it was also painful, as both knew that love wasn’t enough when their paths pulled them in opposite directions.
After earning his degree, Erik officially launched his career as a remote digital designer, taking on clients from around the world. By age 26, he took the plunge into full-time travel, combining his work with his passion for extreme sports.
Over the next decade and a half, Erik explored every corner of the globe, from the cliffs of New Zealand to the peaks of the Swiss Alps, the jungles of South America to the remote fjords of Scandinavia. He immersed himself in local cultures, often going off-grid for weeks at a time on hiking expeditions, mountain climbs, and cliff diving adventures.
Communication with his family was sporadic, especially during long treks, but Erik always found his way back to a signal to check in when he could. Over the years, Lars, Astrid, Magnus, Annika, and Ingrid each visited him in different countries, turning their visits into mini family vacations filled with adventure, exploration, and the occasional mishap.
Despite the unconventional lifestyle, Erik maintained his strong bond with his family, even if it meant celebrating holidays through video calls or sending postcards from the middle of nowhere.
In early 2025, Erik’s life took an unexpected turn when he learned that his father, Lars, had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Though Erik had built a life of freedom and adventure, the pull of family was stronger than ever. Without hesitation, he returned to Kismet Harbor, moving into Emerald Mist, a property offering him enough space to work remotely while staying close to his parents.
Now back in his hometown, Erik is navigating the challenges of staying in one place after nearly two decades on the move. He divides his time between caring for his father, supporting his mother, working on design projects, and reconnecting with his siblings. His energetic personality hasn’t changed — he still can’t sit still for long, always pacing, stretching, or finding ways to stay in motion, even while waiting in line.
His trusty Border Collie, Fenrir, is his constant companion, matching Erik’s boundless energy on long hikes along the cliffs or through the forests surrounding Kismet Harbor.
Though it’s been an adjustment to trade global adventures for small-town routines, Erik knows family comes first. With his father’s health in decline and his siblings also balancing their own lives, Erik is rediscovering the importance of home — even if part of him still aches for the freedom of the open road.
