Oliver was surprised when he heard rumors Erin was back in Florence, and for the ease of simplicity he wanted to believe them. He had met new people, started letting himself feel things again and he didn’t want that ruined. But still, his heart urned for it to be true, to be able to even just see her through the window of her favorite coffee shop as he walked by, a content smile on her face. He had finally gotten to that stage, just wanting her to be content and happy like he was trying to be.
He was even more surprised when she asked to meet up and just talk. This screamed danger, his instincts knowing that seeing her could so easily take him right to a flood of ever good memory they ever shared and ruining any progress he’d made since she left. He should have said no, but of course he didn’t. Erin was his biggest weakness and he knew that would never change.
So he agreed and now here he sat, bouncing his leg nervously as he waited, unsure of what emotions would come up when he got to look into her eyes for the first time in what seems like forever. But oh god was he dying to know. Oliver knew this was probably emotional torture he was self inflicting. His stomach twisted into knots when he saw her walk through the door and he though of slipping out the back. But if she was willing to put herself out there to talk, he should do the same. The sound of her voice eased his nerves like a flood of novicane, allowing him to settle in to his seat and great her with a soft smile. “Hey you.” His tone was soft, the words laced with a slight playful tone out of habit. “It’s nice to know the rumors I’ve heard about you coming back are true. I’d accepted I’d never seen you again ry… Erin.”
after the whole breakup had ended, they’d talked a few times of course, but erin had kept her distance. via mutual friends, she’d sometimes picked up some bits and pieces of information about what oliver had been up to since she packed up and left. it wasn’t much though, and this meant she had no idea what she was actually walking into. when she sat down finally, a soft sigh escaped her lips and her focus went from his face to her hands, which she now noticed were shaking a little. an annoying symptom of being nervous.
“yeah well...” she trailed off, her blue eyes flicking back up to meet his. she was so stuck in her own thoughts about the current situation, she didn’t even notice that he almost used her nickname instead of her full name, “i kind of hadn’t planned on coming back. but you know me,” she chuckled halfheartedly, “i can get pretty worked up and stubborn over things.” her eyes drifted away again, not able to handle the eye contact for too long. although she didn’t necessarily regret leaving, vowing to never see him again might have been just a little over the top. after all, this was oliver they were talking about, and for some reason erin always had the urge to just run right back to him, despite many attempt to move on with someone new. it was like a reflex, an instinct, something beyond her control. she’d resented it for the longest time, but now here she was.
“i just.. i don’t really know what i’m doing here exactly.” she finally admitted, always one to communicate her feelings as directly as possible. despite having a reputation of having her head in the clouds, she just liked things to be clear. it made life so much easier. “i just felt i needed to come back to florence and it felt weird being here without even talking to you once.”
〚 josefine frida pettersen, cisfemale, she/her, 23 〛🌹 ERIN DONNELY has found themselves in florence, italy since MARCH of 2019 and are currently WORKING ON A GRADUATE DEGREE. people close to them would describe them as KIND but also STUBBORN. maybe that’s why they’re known as the DREAMER. a rumor is going around that SHE MOVED BACK TO FLORENCE TO MAKE UP WITH HER FORMER FIANCÉ.

erin felt as if she had just been on too mant rollercoaster rides. her stomach was making backflips. the fluttering feeling had been present and getting worse ever since they’d made this.. appointment? it felt like an appointment, rather than just a casual get together of former friends. cause way back, that’s what they were. friends. that’s how this whole mess had started. it was weird to think of such a simple beginning, so much had happened since.
she swung the door of the caffetteria they’d agreed to open, taking a moment to scan over the tables looking for a familiar face. when she’d left, it had been final for her. she’d promised herself she wouldn’t look back. yet here she stood. she’d never meant to break her own promises, but when her eyes finally hooked onto oliver, she felt a sense of relief. she made her way over to the table he’d chosen, putting her small satchel bag down on the table and taking the seat opposite of him. “hi.” her voice came out small, shy. she cleared her throat, pursed her red-painted lips. “it’s good to see you.”
