#Unfair
It is #unfair that they are #workinghard
Noticed by no one, hiding in #fear
Cloaked by the others #identity
Wishing for their own #freedom
They go on with their lives in #ignorance
They #refusetosee what they really are
All they do is stay in the #doublestandards
The world #needschange and that we must #protest
All we dream of is #equality
It is all #unfair
American expectations of whites are so low that they are never assumed capable of identifying with anyone but themselves. If you’re going to finally make a movie that doesn’t cast Muslims as terrorists—the film about the famous scholar and poet Rumi, for example—then naturally, you have to cast a white actor to play Rumi. You can’t expect whites to support something if they aren’t the center of it. - “Low Standard for Whites. That’s What’s Killing Us,” Mitchell
This is a strong message toward white-washing in today’s society. White people are much more likely to put themselves in roles that do not pertain to their ethnicity, but are positive rather than the ladder. This can be extremely undignified and unfair to people of other races who could portray these roles naturally and with the same or more talent, yet they are almost always overlooked.
There’s no right way to protest your own dehumanization and your community’s destruction, especially when your country insists that there’s nothing violent, uncivilized, and un-American about how it routinely dehumanizes and destroys certain populations.
Low Standards for Whites. Thats whats killing us. (via clairevois1)
This is a very strong quote because it emphasizes why so many black Americans are made out to be ‘rioters’ or ‘causing a problem’ when all they are trying to do is shed light on what the real problem is because so many decide to not acknowledge it.
...it is important to examine how and why digital activism has become salient to particular populations. It is surely not coincidental that the groups most likely to experience police brutality, to have their protests disparaged as acts of 'rioting' or 'looting' and to be misrepresented in the media are precisely those turning to digital activism at the highest rates.

It doesn’t take much at all for a white person to be considered good. As long as they avoid killing someone themselves, no one is going to demand anything else of them

If the police wanted to distract everyone with the video that has absolutely nothing to do with Michael Brown's shooting they should have just released Ghostbusters instead.

I was interested in the surprise of the intimate, or the surprise of the ordinary. So you’re just moving along and suddenly you get this moment that breaks your ability to continue, and yet you continue. I wanted those kinds of moments. And initially people would say, “I don’t think I have any.” Their initial reaction was to render invisible those moments weaved into a kind of everydayness. And then I’d tell them something that happened to me, and that would trigger something.
Blackness as the Second Person, Sharma
You fear the night is being locked in and coded on a cellular level and want time to function as a power wash.

“See, I only date hood. My last man? He never even met his father. Four women, six kids. Three of whom are named after luxury cars.“
This is an important quote from this excerpt because it shows how there are strong stereotypes that still exist at this time. This woman in this passage says exclaims that the man she dated was weak for not having multiple woman and kids and naming them after luxury cars, which is a racist stereotype.
Racism is over in America. The only people who are thinking about it are, I dunno, Mexicans probably.
President Fletcher “Dear White People”
Our sense is that the criminal system cannot be relied upon to administer justice for Black folks, and was, in fact, historically designed to control Blacks within a racial caste system.
Richael Faithful “ #BLACKLIVESMATTER KITCHEN TALK” (via dgreer8)
This is a very important argument made against the criminal system. It shows that the way it was designed is out dated and does not perform a purpose that is beneficial and fair to all people. It needs to be reformed and people need to realize the clear distinction between a racist and non racist system.
Whites should hold Black life precious because they value all life, not from their own perspective of what is life-affirming for Blacks. Progress should flow from an empathetic understanding that all of us possess the right to self-determination within an inter-connected web of relationships.
‘#BlackLivesMatter Kitchen Talk’ Richael Faithful
