The Truffle is a piece of nature built with earth, full of air. A space within a stone that sits on the ground and blends with the territory. It camouflages, by emulating the processes of mineral formation in its structure, and integrates with the natural environment, complying with its laws.
We made a hole in the ground, piling up on its perimeter the topsoil removed, and we obtained a retaining dike without mechanical consistency. Then, we materialized the air building a volume with hay bales and flooded the space between the earth and the built air to solidify it. The poured mass concrete wrapped the air and protected itself with the ground. Time passed and we removed the earth discovering an amorphous mass.
Photographer Pavel Becker and designer Nora Luther may have discovered the most aesthetically pleasing way to depict recipes.
Using high speed photography and a bit of luck, the duo captured all of the ingredients in various dishes perfectly suspended in midair.

"Our main objective was to re-think traditional packaging methodology. Used as a tool to showcase our ability to think & work beyond convention, we determined from the out-set that drawing inspiration from uncommon sources was essential to the success of the project. Cue the Terpentine: An attractive shape, an airtight seal, something unexpected. This container delivered on all counts, but how to break from the unfriendly, industrial, and for all intensive purposes toxic associations we as consumers have made with that form?
A bright yet soft color palette combined with elegant and approachable serif type helps soften the brand against the harshness of material. A quick sand, prime, and dip in paint helps add some individuality among the products and re-enforces the handmade nature of the product, No two wishbones being exactly the same.”
AKA is not one of those big fancy agencies – they are a small focused design studio that works efficiently to make the most of budgets and timelines through their streamlined positioning and design process. They are a team that believes that “all work and no play makes for a dull day”. While they take their work seriously, they believe you need to enjoy the ride – as the journey is often just as important as the end result.

My favourite record of July has to be Trampled by Turtles' "Wild Animals"! It's fresh stuff from a band I honestly expected to go stale. The title track is a melancholy indie-folk that reminds me of Day Joy's "Go To Sleep, Mess". Folk forever!

"The major challenge in this project was to create an architecture with its own identity in one of Stockholm’s most important cultural environments that yields to the existing historic urban fabric. The starting point of the proposal was to create a building that in scale and design is perceived as furniture/sculpture instead of a traditional building.”

I saw Pokey LaFarge for the first time at ROMP fest this year in Owensboro, Kentucky. They play a roots-inspired mid-western folk that makes old and young folks tap their feet in unison. While eating supper, I had the opportunity to join a conversation involving the guitarist from the band -- the one that looks like Hyde from That 70's show! The festival, favourite bands, food trucks, family history, and Pokey Lafarge's upcoming tour were the topics of prominence. It made for a nice memory of the festival and allowed me to more fully understand the music I heard a few hours prior. Here is Pokey sharing his thoughts on American music, culture, mass media, domestic policy, and history at a TED conference in Saint Louis. Be sure to finish the lecture, because you'll hear "Central Time", one of their catchiest tunes, at the closing!
Anna and I taking over Yellow Creek Park at ROMP. Oh, and some guy basically forced us to eat an ear of corn he grilled! Haha, nice fellow.
