One Size Fits All
(A man comes to the counter and places two dresses on the counter: one sized XS and one sized XXL.)
Me: āAre these dresses both for the same woman?ā
Customer: āYes.ā
Me: āOh, okay. These are both very different sizes, so they are not likely to fit the same person. What size does she usually take?ā
Customer: āUm⦠Iām not sure.ā
Manager: āWell, does she look more like me or more like her?ā
(Note: my manager is quite small, and I am quite big.)
Customer: āUm⦠uh⦠Iām sure these will be fine.ā
Me: āSir, because the price is marked down on these dresses they will be Final Sale, so you will not be able to return them if they are not the right size. Are you sure we canāt help you?ā
(The customer looks around furtively, then leans in close so that only my manager and I can hear what he is saying.)
Customer: āThese dresses are for me, actually.ā
(My manager looks at me, and I at her, and then she turns to the customer and speaks a very matter of fact voice.)
Manager: āWhy donāt you go try them on, then?ā
Customer: āReally? Would that be okay with you?ā
Manager: āOf course! Let me get you started with a fitting room.ā
(I spend the next hour bringing this man dresses to try on and he had a lovely time! He introduced himself to me and thanked us profusely for being so understanding and helpful. He left with four dresses, all of which fit him to a tee, and he came back regularly after that.)
Today is January 29th.
Iām not sure which is funnier. Ā

Unnecessary shit.
My dad can be such an ignorant fool sometimes. He calls out an unnecessary racist remark to a poor cashier lady who was just doing her job. I'm so thankful that she was very patient and nice. She didn't lash out and kept her cool. I commend her for that.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELLEN DEGENERES!
Iām stillĀ in touch with reality and I see this business for what it is, which is a playground. Iām playing. I work at imagining things. None of this is real. None of this actually matters. I donāt have a sense of superiority. I feel lucky but I donāt feel special. I donāt think thereās ever a moment where I feel like I deserve it. The celebrity and fame thing and the acting part of it are two separate things. The celebrity part of it is so predictable. Iām not wowed by it.
Aaaand this is why I still like her.
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
Kiss From a Stranger Saves a Suicidal Man
In Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, a sixteen-year-old boy was standing on a bridge, threatening to jump off and end his life. Hundreds of onlookers watched in horror as he refused to cross back onto the safe side of the guardrail. Police had arrived and were talking to the boy, but no one could get through to him. Just then, Liu Wenxiu, a nineteen-year-old hotel waitress, was walking home from work when she saw the boy and knew that she had to do something to help him. Wenxiu had once been suicidal herself, so she knew how the boy felt. Telling police that she was his girlfriend, the girl managed to get close enough to talk to the boy. She shared her own sad and difficult life story, listened to his, and showed him the scar on her wrist from where she had tried to commit suicide herself. āHe said heās hopeless, āso donāt waste your time to save meā. But I told him, āIām not saving your life, I just want you to realize how silly you are being. Look at me, Iāve been there and Iām now here,āā Wenxiu said. Finally, the girl was able to lean in and give him a hug, and then she unexpectedly gave him a kiss, as well. Police were then able to take the knife that the boy was holding and lead him back over to the safe side of the bridge.
I could not ignore this.Ā
