There’s a bit of a line getting into Voxis’ gated district, but since it’s a major festival day, that’s not unexpected. Melody bounces on her toes and twists idly side to side as they wait. The dress Eirian got her swishes around her legs, flaring out, and she’s trying very hard not to start spinning around to see how far out it flares. Maybe in the park? Seems like something she could do at the playground. The other littles would get it. It wouldn’t be odd behavior there. It’s likely not odd behavior here, if she’s being honest with herself. Still, dresses are delightfully new. A year of them isn’t enough, and she’s not entirely sure what counts as normal dress behavior. This one is pale pink with butter-yellow accents, and with her pastel teal hair, she feels a bit like a bag of cotton candy. In the best way.
“I take it you’re enjoying your dress?” Eirian asks as he catches Melody by the wrist and twirls her out into a little spin. And yes, the skirt swirls out like she expected, and she laughs. Years fall away, and she feels like she could be a little girl clinging onto her daddy as Eirian draws her back into his arms and kisses her on the nose. Playing.
It’s perfect. He’s perfect. “I love it, thank you. You think of everything.” Melody is a bit too shy to say Daddy aloud in line with other people right beside them. It’s there, though unspoken, but she thinks he hears it anyway.
Eirian matches her in a shirt the color of her hair and pink shorts. It clashes with the red of his hair, but she doubts he cares. Melody grins at him and returns a kiss to his nose as the line moves forward, finally admitting them. Before today, Melody’s not ventured any deeper into the gated district than the temple just a few blocks past the main entrance. She doesn’t let go of Eirian’s hand. Maybe squeezes it tighter.
When Jonah's estranged twin sister's activism outs him as a CSA/incest survivor to parts of his polycule/kink community, Jonah braces himself for disgust, rejection, and people being generally weird about his history. He's entirely unprepared for what actually happens.
Content Warnings: Mentions and discussions of past CSA/rape, incest, and abuse. While I do not ever go into what I consider gratuitous detail, it is discussed frankly on page with some details.

This story was inspired extremely loosely by my own forced outing. "What if someone had been normal about it?" is the question I started with and this story is what the answer became.

Just so y’all know: I can’t speak for every other fic author but I can say that I remember when people leave me kind comments. I recognize your urls and/or usernames on AO3. I remember you and sometimes in writing my fics I think to myself, “Oh, I hope this person sees this because they liked x in this other fic I did.”
Not only that—I go back and reread comments when I’m feeling low. I look at tags and reblogs and asks and wish I could hold them in my hand like a note from a friend on an old, torn piece of notebook paper.

"Kill your darlings" means "if something is holding you back, get rid of it, even if it sounds pretty."
