@es-taehyung
betrayal ╯taehyung & yoongi
He could get hurt here? Yoongi would have just snorted the comment away and laughed this entire situation off if he could have but he knew he wouldn’t be able to. His best friend killed someone and now he had a rod pointed right at him. Fear rose in his chest and for the first time Yoongi found himself completely and utterly terrified by the non-bender in front of him. Listening to his best friend try to convince him about being unable to understand. How could he? Yoongi was gifted and Taehyung was not- Taehyung was just from a family that labeled him as the worst of the bunch, the defective one. Some people were hateful, but on the other hand.
"Taehyung! How could you sit here and say that I can’t understand you?!" Yoongi’s voice was a mix of many emotions, fear, frustration and anguish. "Just because I’m a bender doesn’t mean that anyone understands me either! I come from a race that almost died, Tae. It could take a few benders or nonbenders to gather all of us and kill us so we never, ever come back. You don’t need to kill people to make a statement!” He was desperate, so desperate as he put himself into a defensive stance- at least trying to show his best friend that he would not go down without a fight.
"I can’t understand why you would kill someone Tae… I can’t.”
Taehyung’s throat tightened, shaking his head as he heard Yoongi’s reply. “It’s not the same!” It felt childish to say it, feeling like he was about to try, like he was about to stamp his foot and throw a tantrum because the world wasn’t fair. “It’s not… we’re not killing an entire race of people. Or defenseless people. I’m just trying to make the world a better place.” The lightning rod wavered for a moment, gesturing upward, toward where the man’s body was. “He was part of the…” What was the word the leader had used? “…part of the impurity in the world. It’s to make things better.”
His posture stiffened, trying to focus his mind on to reaffirming those words. The rod steadied again, and Taehyung took a step forward. “You wouldn’t understand. Your people almost die, and you’re saying I’m doing something horrible for making sure that my people don’t.” There was something miserable in his tone, realizing that the words were unlikely to get through to Yoongi. “Being a nonbender means that you’re always at the mercy of benders. Didn’t you just use your bending against me?” He glared at his friend as he threw out the accusation. “And I’m your friend. What would a stranger do to me?”
❝ fighting practice ❞ ▮ kikwang & taehyung
Kikwang rolled his eyes at Taehyung’s response and decided to just ignore him and keep walking. Honestly the other boy could call him whatever he wanted so long as it was no where close to his real identity. No one in the equalists besides the main leader and higher lieutenants could know about him being able to water bend. If they did, they could lash out. Kikwang wasn’t afraid of them of course, but their delusion and numbers were exactly what he needed to bring down the North Pole.
Kikwang listened as Taehyung revealed that he knew Dragon Flats Borough the best, but he laughed as the other continued to get specific. “I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear anything after south side,” He said, looking at the male. “I’m not really interested in where you live.” The average person would’ve probably missed it but Kikwang was trained to pick up the most specific tips from very non specific sentences. You wouldn’t hang out by an area a lot if you didn’t live too close by. Still smiling under his bandanna, Kikwang nodded his head again. “But I know what you’re talking about it’s perfect.”
The walk over to Dragon Flats wasn’t long and soon they were in the area Taehyung was most comfortable with. Kikwang reached into his pocket and handed the non bender a bandanna. “Cover your face. Now that you’re a soldier of a hidden war, always carry something to hide your identity. You must always keep those two lives separate to avoid getting caught. Now,” he said looking around. This area was particularly known for it’s street violence so it wasn’t long before Kikwang rested his eyes on three thugs nearby. From the looks of it, they were fire benders. Before Taehyung had anytime to object, Kikwang grabbed a brick off the ground and chucked it at them. It hit one of the thugs directly in the back of the head, knocking him unconscious. The other two whirled around, flames bursting from their hands as their angry eyes rested on Kikwang and Taehyung. The water bender smirked and faced Taehyung.
"Well it’s a good thing you know this place, because if you don’t get us out of here now, those fire benders are going to kill us.” He looked bak at the two thugs who were already running in our direction. He remained calm, but Taehyung had to act fast.
Taehyung was about to open his mouth and point out tartly that he didn’t, in fact, live in Dragon Flats—but then he thought better of it. Seonsaengnim (as Tae had mentally dubbed him) didn’t care about where he lived, and more importantly for him, then he’d have to explain what he’d been doing in that part of town so much. So he clicked his teeth together, ambling along after the other Equalist.
To his practiced gaze, the members of the different Triads were easy to tell apart. Most of them didn’t even look at him; plenty knew who he was, of course, but they also knew from that that V wasn’t particularly a threat to him. Walking through Dragon Flats usually wasn’t enough to make him nervous at all, even with the thugs that were loitering nearby. He didn’t give anyone nearby more than a second glance right up until Seonsaengnim picked up a brick and hurled it at a trio of firebenders.
A strangled squeak left Taehyung’s lips, eyes as wide as plates as he stared back at his teacher. “Are you crazy?” Well, this guy couldn’t have known about his Triad affiliations, and now wasn’t an opportune moment to let him on the secret. The words were much louder than he had intended, drawing a few stray glances from those around him. But there wasn’t time for thinking about the consequences today would have—he just grabbed his wrist and yanked his teacher after him as he set off down the street, jagging sideways into an alley a moment later without even looking. He’d run this route before; he didn’t even have to think about where to put his feet as he hurtled down the alleyway, dropping the other guy’s wrist. His now-free hand reached out to brace him against the wall as he swung up a set of boxes, one foot bouncing off of the top of a fence as he monkeyed up onto the roof, crossing it to peek down at the street. He let out a breath as he saw that the firebenders hadn’t bothered to look up yet, but they’d think of it fast enough the second that they saw the fence back there.
So Taehyung took off again, not even looking behind him to see if his teacher had followed, zigzagging around the chimney to jump onto the next roof. His feet thudded against the tiles, but at least he hadn’t been wearing hard shoes today, he thought as he took off again, skidding to the other side of his new rooftop before he dared glancing backward to hiss a frustrated, “Well, what now, teacher?”
pasttime ✤ taehyung & junhyung
His rocks were ready to be thrown straight into this bad person’s face until he realized who it was. he was young, maybe even younger than he was and when he heard confirmation that he wasn’t bad the rocks dropped immediately. So, he was the general his father was currently speaking with? Oh. Junhyung straightened himself and his robes immediately, glancing downwards in shame as he bowed his head towards the other child in hopes that he would be forgiven. “My apologies,” he paused just as he glanced up. “But I didn’t know who you were. I thought someone bad snuck in here.”
Oh right, he was supposed to introduce himself. “My name is Junhyung. Lin, Junhyung. My dad is a general in Ba Sing Se and that’s where I live. I’m here visiting your dad.” His speech was rehearsed and he couldn’t help but to sound so dull when he spoke it. It’s not like he really cared or anything. He had said it over hundreds of times (maybe), so what did it matter if he lacked enthusiasm. His father wasn’t here to correct him anyway. “Sorry for almost earthbending rocks into you…” His apology was awkward, but at least he gave one. He felt sort of bad for almost half-murdering the general’s son after all.
“Oh!” Taehyung brightened instantly, all of the tension that came from being threatened with bending melting straight out of him. “You’re also the general’s son, huh?” The lack of enthusiasm that this Junhyung gave him with the greeting didn’t seem to impinge upon the brightness of Tae’s smile; he skipped forward, with his perfect manners forgotten, extending a hand to the visitor. “Nice to meet’cha! I’m Taehyung. I’ve never been to Ba Sing Se, you’re lucky to get to travel so far! Do you usually go on meetings with your dad?” The words were spoken in a burst of excited chatter, curiosity blossoming in Taehyung’s eyes. This Junhyung’s life was almost like his, he figured, but if he had been born with bending instead of as a shame to the family.
“Aw, don’t worry about that.” Taehyung waved a hand dismissively at the apology. “It happens.” It wouldn’t be the first time he’d been hit by a bending attack. “After all, you were trying to stop bad people from sneaking into my house, so that’s a good thing after all, right?” And with it neatly arranged like that and put out of mind, Tae figured it would hardly be an obstacle in befriending this Junhyung.
|| Budding Seeds || ✲ Taehyung and Soyoung
It was rather obvious that Soyoung’s partner had experience in some form of parkour and wall scaling, for he made it to the roof fairly fast without the aid of a grappling hook. She had to admit to herself, she was rather pleased that she got the chance to work with a nonbender that actually had skill. She had seen some of the work of the other equalists, and they had a bad tendency to be rather ditsy at times of need. Sure, they were all trained how to fight, but it was obvious that some were better than others. Soyoung herself was blessed with the gift of great agility, which for missions such as this were ideal. This boy seemed to have prior experience in missions such as this, so perhaps they could make a pretty skilled team.
As the boy lept across the building, Soyoung followed closely behind, doing a small tuck and roll to avoid any loud thudding noises from landing. It was quite funny really, to compare their strengths and weaknesses to each other’s. He had landed on two feet, making a decent amount of noise, while she knew that tucking and rolling would help reduce the landing sounds. Maybe it was because he couldn’t do acrobatic tricks like that, even though he could scale walls with his bare hands. Either way it didn’t really matter to her, so long as the mission could get done without either of them being caught.
"Simple," Soyoung replied, voice in a soft tone to avoid anyone catching them, "The documents we need are in room 5B, on the fifth floor of the police station. If we enter climbing down from the roof of the headquarters on the back side of the building, we’re less likely to be caught. If no windows are open, we may have to break some glass, but I’m sure we can do it easily. Once we have the papers, we’ll escape through the alleys and make it back to Equalist headquarters to return the documents to the lieutenant." Making sure her helmet was in place, the girl let out a small sigh before re-positioning herself to get ready to dash for the headquarters. "Let’s move out."
“Breaking glass is actually pretty easy. The trick is either doing it quietly, or moving fast enough that no one knows who was actually there.” Taehyung smiled slightly as he said the words; what must his partner think of him, saying things that only someone on the wrong side of the law would know with matter-of-fact certainty? “I’d say our best bet is to trip the latch if the window isn’t open. Lucky you, I’ve got practice doing just that.” It didn’t matter what she thought his real profession was, he decided. The skills he got from running for the Triads would make his work as an Equalist a whole lot easier in the long run.
Making the dash for the headquarters, Taehyung reached up a hand to make sure his mask was nice and secure. The Republic City police already had him on their blotters, after all… but now wasn’t the greatest moment to get dazed by nerves. Trying to mimic the way that Fat Cat made almost no sound as he ran, he went after her. He could see the police building up on the horizon, stretching up taller than some of the surrounding businesses in the heart of the city. The front of it was lit up by the glow of street- and floodlights, but Fat Cat’s plan seemed to be working out for them—the back of the building, especially the top, was in much more shadow.
One last bound, taking the roll on his shoulder the way that Fat Cat did (and ow, that hurt, how the hell had she been doing that with every jump), Taehyung came back up to his feet on the police station roof. “Which window is our target?” he asked her, turning his head to glance over at her. He’d let her assume the lead for now, even if the long moments of standing poised on this rooftop were grating on his nerves. He kept expecting the police to come pouring out of that door on the corner of the roof, yelling all kinds of threats and iron-bending the bars around them into cuffs. Shivering, he tried to refocus, reminding himself that now wasn’t a good time for nerves.

❝ friend of a friend ❞ ▮ jonghyun & taehyung
The D-Lionturtles’ practice session had been over for around three hours now and yet Jonghyun was still in the vicinity, practicing. There had been a new move that he had thought of and wanted to try out as it might give them an advantage for their next fights. The progress was slow since he hadn’t really thought of a concrete way on how to execute the move. But due to several trials and errors for the past couple of days , he was working on polishing said move.
He never really intended to stay long at the arena today but he was so lost in his routine that time slipped away from him. Breaking his concentration, Jonghyun glanced at the clock and let out a small chuckle. It was later than he expected it to be but then again, he should’ve seen it coming. Taking off his headgear and mussing up his bangs, the earth-bender was about to go across the room to change fully when he heard footsteps then a voice following. Jonghyun blinked as he recognized the other. ” Hey! You’re Yoongi’s friend right? ” continuing with ” Well, practice ended three hours ago so you’re three hours late “.
“Yeah, that’s me.” Taehyung smiled at the title he was given, though internally he was groaning. Three hours ago? Yoongi, you told me the wrong time. Get a watch, you airhead. “Oh, man. I really had the wrong time, didn’t I?” Lifting a hand, he rubbed his temple, vaguely annoyed. “And I have no idea where he’d be now. So much for that, I guess. Don’t tell Yoongi I said it, but he’s a little useless sometimes.” He’d have to try and track down his friend tomorrow, it looked like. Great.
Still, since he had come all of this way… Dropping his hand again, Taehyung looked back at the other guy with a degree of interest. He looked vaguely familiar, and if he had recognized Tae, then… “You’re one of his teammates, right? I’m Taehyung.” He smiled again, glancing around the room. Earthbender, unless he was practicing with someone else, I bet. There were rocks strewn around the room, not puddles of water. “What’re you doing here so late, if practice ended three hours ago?” He asked the question, swinging his gaze back to the earthbender, genuinely curious.
❝ to you, from republic city ❞ ▮ miyoung & taehyung
miyoung grins and pulls taehyung into a tight hug, ignoring his silly bow. “we’re friends, you idiot. you don’t have to be so formal!” pulling back to look at him properly, the princess sees a more mature man than the boy she grew up with and reaches by reflex to ruffle his hair, “did you do your hair and look all nice for me?”
nodding, she starts to count the days she has in republic city before she had to go back to the fire nation, father would throw a prissy fit about her being a horribly untaught and uncouth princess if he caught her out of the palace again. “i have four days, is that enough time to show me around? or we’re going to be chased all over the city by the fire nation army…”
“I’m not going to get smacked by some guard for being rude to a princess?” Taehyung grinned, returning the hug. The ruffle made him scowl instead, reaching up a hand to try and restore a semblance of order to his orange locks. It was a rather futile task, of course, seeing as they were rarely in order to begin with. “I just look nice naturally, that’s all that there is to it.”
“Four days? That’s enough to see all of the best parts of it, I think.” His smile returned, offering his hand to her. “And while hiding from the entirety of the army sounds exciting, I think we’d be better off avoiding that. As long as you promise you’ll come and visit me again?” Taehyung tilted his head slightly, questioning. “Or are you ending your days of sneaking out and playing truant?”
❝ visits ❞ ▮ memory ▮ yongguk & taehyung
the question was too funny to even be laughed at. yongguk sighed and clicked his tongue instead. he turned around and began the walk back to the guesthouse. “he doesn’t even want me to leave this side of town,” he said, devoid of sadness because he was already so used to the boxes his father kept him in.
"you know him. why play or sleep or eat or breathe when you can work work work!" he laughed sarcastically, quickly looking for a subject to change into. work was the last thing he wanted to talk about—’work' was the last word he wanted to say.
"is it okay if we eat at the guesthouse? we’re staying in a bigger one now," he said, enthusiasm misguided and misplaced. "the chef’s better, too."
“Laaaame.” Taehyung stretched out the word with a smile, but he fell in step beside Yongguk as he began the walk toward the guesthouse. He knew how impossible fathers could be—so instead of arguing, or continuing the conversation, he just nodded sympathetically. “Well, you’re free now and not rushing off anywhere, so no need to worry about all of that stuff.”
A quick nod came to answer Yongguk’s question. “Sounds good to me! Well, as long as you say the food is good, I’m always in, really.” He laughed, echoing the other’s enthusiasm. “And as long as you show me around. I haven’t seen anywhere new in ages.” He’d barely been anywhere in ages. Being the shame of your family could put a strict end to your freedom, unfortunately.
betrayal ╯taehyun & yoongi
Wait, this must have been some sort of joke. There was no way that… that his best friend who lived in poverty with him actually killed someone. This was just a terrible dream right? The person that had been given such an electric shock- although he heard it from far away- how could they survive? And the fact of the matter is was his best friend was dressed up, with his face specially hidden wielding the very rods that had killed someone. This was all way, way too much. Yoongi found himself taking a few steps back while his throat practically closed and his eyes stung hard with possible tears.
“Taehyung…?" Yoongi whispered softly as his defensive airbending position immediately dropped. Shock was written over his face as he glanced around, his eyes soon falling to the electric rods that absolutely terrified him. "I’m not supposed to be here?” Yoongi repeated softly- he couldn’t even believe what he was hearing. “I didn’t just witness you… you killing someone, did I?” Of course it was more of a rhetorical question. Yoongi had witnessed the act that his best friend decided to do and he was not only appalled but he was also feeling completely and utterly betrayed.
"How could you do something like that…" He whispered softly, his eyes now watering up as he attempted to speak, his voice quivering as he nervously continued to back away.
Taehyung could feel himself shaking, tightening his fingers around the lightning rod so that he didn’t drop it. “You could get hurt here,” he said. His voice shook nearly as badly as he did, all of the bravado and reassurance that he had worked up for tonight disappearing the second that his friend began to question him. He took a step forward, his eyes fixing on the ground by Yoongi’s feet. No one was supposed to show up here. That was the plan, appear and then vanish and only hurt the people that I was told to… “No one but the earthbenders were supposed to be here tonight. Everyone else was supposed to be at the festival.”
The question Yoongi asked made Taehyung shake his head; how was he supposed to explain something like this? “I had to do it.” It. He didn’t want to admit what it was to his friend—the words stuck in his throat as it was. Looking up, Taehyung steeled himself, forcing himself to sound more assured. “I had to. You don’t know what it’s like, being a nonbender. You can’t.” Slowly, he took another step forward, holding up the rod, as if to show his friend. “They promised us that they could change things, stop people from hating us for not being good enough. How could I? How could I not?”
“Yoongi, you’ve got to understand…” His hands were still shaking, Taehyung realized. Yoongi’s going to hate me now. He won’t get it. How can he?
betrayal ╯taehyun & yoongi
The festival was blooming with people, tourists and natives to Republic City and Yoongi knew this was the perfect opportunity to sneak some food. Currently, he was trying to save up his money to buy something really nice for his whole probending team and unfortunately, things were expensive. With a smirk, he quicky snuck a peach right off someone’s little stall just as he began climbing up the large concrete steps leading up to one of the bigger halls in Republic City. Currently it was serving for a gala for the earthbenders, showing off their history and bending styles- how it grew into the metalbending they used today thanks to whoever. It wasn’t that important to him, but looking at the great banners and tapestry were intriguing to say the least.
Suddenly, he heard a noise and what sounded like electricity and he became on guard. Who was that? Was that a firebender? Why was someone lightning bending inside this place? What? Yoongi began creeping closer, his feet light and gentle to make sure no one would hear him. The noise continued to get closer as he continued sneaking around the large, long hallways, uncertainty painting his expression. And suddenly, when he peeked his head around the corner he saw it. Someone, dressed in greens and browns was lying on the ground as electricity crackled around him while someone held onto said pole. It took a second to realize that this masked person was actually causing harm to the other and immediately he rushed into action. As he ran, he swung his arms, creating an air tunnel that he launched at the person, causing them to fly backwards and right out the window. Thankfully, the building wasn’t one that was high off the ground and as the other fell Yoongi did his best to step over the glass and jump down with them, smirking when he saw the other glance up to see what happened. His feet collided with the others head and Yoongi struggled to stand himself up such a fall.
But when he turned around, nothing but shock painted his face.
This whole mission was putting Taehyung on edge. Sneaking up to where the earthbenders were waiting before their performance had been nothing; he was used to slipping around, quiet as a shadow and smooth as silk. What he wasn’t used to, though, was taking an initiative to attack rather than filching something and vanishing as easily as he had come. It had taken long minutes and all of Taehyung’s courage to steel himself into stealing toward his target, footsteps quiet on the floorboards beneath him. He’d been learning how to fight, doing better than he had before, but against an earthbender? All he had was badly misplaced confidence in the lightning rod he’d been armed with.
For all of that, it had been disturbingly easy to take out two of the earthbenders. Two quick hits to stun them and drop them to the floor; another few good solid jolts, and they stopped moving where they lay, not even the rise and fall of their chests. His nerves were still strangling him, though; Taehyung was frozen there, lightning rod fixed on the earthbender’s collarbone, sending the waves of electricity rippling through his body. I have to make sure he’s eliminated. So he can’t show off his impurity. The thought consumed him enough that he hadn’t even heard someone else approaching until a tunnel of wind sent him smashing out of one of the windows, tumbling to the ground. The pavement hit him like a ton of bricks, driving all of the air out of Taehyung’s lungs.
Gasping, he rolled over, meaning to climb back up to his feet again, but a kick in the head sent him reeling again. Taehyung scrambled backwards, trying to find his balance; when he finally did look up, he felt that same, strangling sensation hit him all over again. Oh, no. Oh, no. Please tell me I’m dreaming. His voice was a squeak from his throat, disbelieving:
“Yoongi?” He backed up as he said it, bringing the lightning rod up reflexively. It crackled again, blue light dancing along it. “No way. No way. You’re not supposed to be here.”
❝ fighting practice ❞ ▮ kikwang & taehyung
Kikwang just stared as the other boy talked. It seemed that whatever it was to force him to join the equalists, at the root of it would be benders. That was something Kikwang would never understand. One because he was water bending by the time he was six, so he’s never thought about how it’s like for a non bender to live in this world. Also, even though he has dealt with his own problems in terms of betrayal, Kikwang has never been the type to sit back and accept his fate as others told it. It was why he was here now. He knew what he wanted, and he would get what he wants if it’s the last thing he does. He nodded his head, nudging the other boy softly. “When I’m done with you, every bender in this city will fear you.”
He looked away when Taehyung asked for his name. He hasn’t figured out if he should make another alias yet so for now he just tries to avoid the question when asked. “Don’t worry about my name. It’s not important right now. I’ve been in the equalists long enough to be an acolyte.” In reality, Kikwang had only been involved with the equalist for about a month. The members higher up on the latter of authority found out about his bending and Kikwang convinced them that they would rather want him as a friend than an enemy.
He nodded his head, agreeing that they should work on the boy’s strengths that way his weaknesses wouldn’t be so bad. “One thing you should know, Taehyung, is that the only reason it’s been hard for you to fight these benders is because you’re playing their game. If you want to beat them, you got to make sure that they’re playing your game with your terms.” He didn’t know how else to explain it, knowing that the other male would still probably be confused. “I got an idea,” He said. “Where’s one place in this city that you know like the back of you hand?” He asked. “We’re taking a field trip, come on,” He said, already making his way up the stairs and out the cafe.
Every bender? Now that sounded nice. Taehyung nodded his assent, smiling slightly. Still, the next reply to come from his teacher wasn’t as encouraging. “So what am I supposed to call you? Seonsaengnim?” That made him laugh, even though it was probably what he would end up doing. That, or it would be, hey, you and that didn’t seem terribly respectful toward someone who had agreed to teach him how to fight.
“I know all of Republic City like the back of my hand,” Taehyung quipped, grinning again. Now that was a subject he was more comfortable with at last. “But, to be specific… Dragon Flats Borough. All of it, really, but the south side particularly. I know the area around there better than most of the city. You know where I’m talking about?” Taehyung turned, jogging after his newfound teacher. “I hang out there a lot.” What he meant was that he tended to work in that area a lot, not to mention live there, but who needed to know the specifics of that one? Even if he liked this guy, you never knew how far you could trust someone. At least he’s not a bender, Taehyung reminded himself as he followed.
“What’re we doing on this field trip?” Taehyung asked as he followed. He sent a small wave toward the owner of the shop as he passed; it never hurt anyone to be polite. Out on the street again, Taehyung had to squint a little bit as his eyes adjusted to the difference in light. “Learning how to make them play the game with my rules?” He echoed the other’s phrasing with his question, raising an eyebrow. Honestly, it sounded appealing, but he wasn’t exactly sure how a familiar environment was going to play into anything, aside from attracting all flavor of glances from passersby. Then again, maybe not in Dragon Flats. It had a reputation for being a rough part of town, after all.
|| Budding Seeds || ✲ Taehyung and Soyoung
Apologies, apologies. This damn boy could apologize and tell her how sorry he was for being late all day, and it would never stick with her. From her own personal experience, Soyoung knew that “sorry” was just a small, fretful band-aid too small to cover up the wound left by another, but of course, the one applying said bandage doesn’t care how big the wound is, only that they’ve now placed an apology on top of it, therefore it was better. But in truth, the past could not be repaired, and no amount of “sorry” could relieve what happened.
But, immediately after his apology, the boy before her was gearing to get ready and go on their mission, so she really wasn’t about to complain. At least this sorry sap of a human recognized his mistake and apologized for his wrongdoings, and even attempted to get them back on track after his pathetic excuses. Furrowing her brow a bit, the girl nodded. “Let’s move out,” she spoke, pulling her helmet over her head and snapping her gloves on as fast as she could. After wasting all those precious minutes waiting for this boy to arrive, the last thing she wanted to do was waste any more time diddling around this stupid alleyway. “Follow my lead, and don’t ask any questions.”
Taking his roof suggestion, Soyoung began to search for a safe way to get herself up there, but unfortunately, no ladders or stairs were in sight. With a soft sigh, she pulled out a small hook and rope from her equipment and, with one foul swing, managed to latch onto the top of the roof, giving it a few tugs to make sure it was safe and secure. Without speaking another word to her partner, she began scaling the wall, moving rather quickly to try to avoid any attention they may cause. For having never scaled a wall before, she was rather surprised at how good she was at it. It wasn’t long before her feet were resting firmly on the top of the building, and without looking back to make sure her ally was close behind, she began to plow forward, bent down to avoid attention from pedestrians. If this boy was really to be her associate, he’d better fucking keep up.
Seeing her pull out her grappling hook, Taehyung could only grin. Follow her lead, she said, and then blundered slowly through something that was completely in his element. His wanderings with Yoongi and the Triads had taught him how to scale a wall. Taking a few steps back, he ran at the wall, jumping to grab a likely handhold. Monkey-like, he clambered up the wall, moving as quietly and quickly as he always did. Swinging himself up onto the roof, he landed quietly, keeping his knees bent to muffle his footsteps. The last thing they needed was anyone wondering why a herd of elephant rats were galloping over their roofs.
Waving to Fat Cat, Taehyung ducked his head, running across the rooftop as lightly as he could. It was a simple feat to leap across the gap, though the thud of landing made him cringe tonight. Usually, getting caught wasn’t bad, but armed in Equalist gear… he didn’t think that it would end terribly well, either. He spared a glance back to see if Fat Cat was following, even if she had claimed that she would be taking the lead. Well, he thought with a grin, come out and play, kitty. Let’s see how well you keep up.
The police station wasn’t terribly far off, so it wasn’t like they’d spend much time up here anyway. Taehyung bounded off again, feeling light as a gazelle as he ran forward. This kind of mission thing was fun, he decided. He could definitely get used to this, he thought with a soft laugh. Well, except for the mission at the end of the festival. That wasn’t quite the same sort of gig. But to that, he gave an internal shrug. First, they had the mission at hand to complete. If they screwed this up, there wouldn’t be any mission at the end of the festival for them. “What’s our plan of attack, leader?” he called back to her, voice low. It wasn’t as if there was anyone to overhear them up here, but they didn’t need anyone looking up, either.
❝ i know you ❞ ▮ aisha & taehyung
If she didn’t know earlier why she didn’t have many girl friends, now she surely did. Loud, roomy and annoying were the best words to describe these kids from the Water Tribe, who had been assigned to be carried out of the probending arena by one of the players – this last one, a poor unfortunate soul ended up being Aisha, who had the oh so great luck to be worried about panting her toenails when someone asked if she would be bothered to do the “honored job” to escort some important teenagers. They obviously didn’t know her though, who doesn’t know everything bothers Sato Aisha?
The first five minutes had been amusing, but not eight has been gone and the oldest waterbender between them could only purse her lips in one of the most forced smiles she had used in a while and walk around them as they commented about Yonggi’s incredible physical and style and smile and “Unnie, you’re so lucky to have him around you!”—Aisha smiled honestly and nodded at the others; if only they got to see the mentioned boy in his turtle-duck undies…
“Krystal?”
Her name calling was short, but it was all that took for her to turn her head to the voice’s direction. Orange hair, tan-ish skin and a tall height was what she was met with and he was met with a delicate frown. Did he know her? Or better—Did she know him? “V…” She stopped, letting the nickname roll out of her tongue in an awkwardly familiar way but she couldn’t remember it.
But the girls stopped as she did, and were all of them staring at the probender and at the “stranger” beside her and, as Aisha looked at them, she could already see they were coming with something to gossip about. Refraining the urge to roll her eyes, she waved them off with an excuse they’d go well alone, that they were just some meters away from their meeting and all that jazz. It wouldn’t be her fault if they got eaten by something, right?
Her frown increased at the thought, but she had to let it go as turning again to face the actual issue, the one that stood tall and smily in front of her. Had her memory gone that bad so soon? That kid looked young enough for her to babysit him—maybe was it? The female chewed her lower lip, lifting her index as a guess fell out of her lips. “Were you from the Triads? You look young enough to be one of their infants.”
Hearing her repeat his nickname, Taehyung smiled wide for a moment, expecting to hear a confirmation from her. Instead, she turned instead, dismissing the girls that had been clustered around her. “Oh, oops, sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt your conversation…” He made his excuse with a tiny, chagrined shrug. If he was honest, he had barely noticed that she was doing anything else.
Her reaction, though, wasn’t all that he could have hoped for. “One of their infants? Hey, now, no need to be rude.” Taehyung’s smile twisted slightly, looking a bit put out for a moment. He had liked Krystal; she was one of the few in the Triads who hadn’t been rotten to the core. One of the few who hadn’t given him another reason to hate benders. He would have thought that she would have remembered him, but… apparently, when you were a big shot, you didn’t need to remember the small fries. “Yeah, we knew each other in the Triads. I might not have been an infant, but I guess I was just as insignificant in the long run, huh? I was just some runner kid for them, hauling around all the work they didn’t want to be bothered with. We worked together a couple of times.” His smile came back at that, easy and infectious, trying to swallow the bitterness of disappointment. He should have known better, really. At the end of the day, he was always going to be some nonbender kid that no one could bother to care about. “I guess it’s not much to remember.”
“But look at you!” His eyes widened slightly at that, gesturing broadly at her. “Star player, dozens of adoring fans! No wonder you don’t remember me. You like it better here?” He tilted his head, inquisitive for a moment. All the Probenders that he knew certainly loved the sport; he doubted that Krystal would be any different at all.
❝ friend of a friend ❞ ▮ jonghyun & taehyung
The Probending arena was large, intimidating, and glittering. It seemed to glow with the power and fame that it conferred on the players who came here to showcase their talents; it unnerved Taehyung, who wasn’t a player and used to being here alone. He walked through the hallways with his shoulders hunched, trying to appear as unassuming as possible to the walls, not that they seemed to care how he carried himself. Usually when he came here, it was with crowds for the night’s matches, or with Yoongi. He didn’t usually show up in the middle of the day when it was deserted and echoing.
Rounding a corner, Taehyung breathed a sigh of relief; he had nearly found his way to the practice area. That was good; he’d finally have some company around here. He was beginning to think that he’d lose his mind if he ever got lost here. Poking his head into the room, Taehyung called: “Hey, way to make me get lost here all on my own, jerk! This has to be the most confusing building ever designed. Way to go, making me walk around by myself.”
His eyes widened as he looked into the room. His friend wasn’t immediately in view, which wasn’t any good. “Uh, that is…” Coughing, Taehyung took a few more steps into the room, glancing around a bit more cautiously now. “Is Yoongi around? He told me to meet him here…” Taehyung’s voice trailed off, the little bit of cheer he had at having company again fading now that he realized that his times or his dates were off somewhere. Well, no one can say I didn’t try.
