i took a deeper dive into the racism in the film industry, the hair and makeup aspects of it.
AGREED, THE AMOUNT OF TIMES I’VE HELD MY BREATHE, JUST HOPING THE COSTUME AND MAKEUP TEAM COULD ACTUALLY HELP ME
They hate to see a fat Black woman succeed, be free AND enjoy herself
I follow Lizzo on tiktok and let me tell you, the woman works out daily and eats vegan. According to some of yall, that’s what you gotta do to be healthy, right?
But yall are still stuck in your toxic mindset of “skinny = healthy” and not understanding that all bodies are built differently. Some people hold onto fat more than others.
Lizzo is healthy. Lizzo is fat. Those two statements are NOT contradictory. Get over it.
none of you know how politics work and it’s starting to show
“suspended campaign” doesn’t mean “temporarily taking a break and will be back,” it means “dropped out but still on the ballot.”
almost every nominee “suspends their campaign” rather than drops out. NO, the media is not deliberately misleading you by using the phrase “dropped out” because the two things ARE equivalent. if they leave out the bit about still gathering delegates, then yes, they are misleading you, but the point still stands–bernie is not running for president anymore.
he is still gathering delegates so that he can push the DNC platform to the left at the democratic convention, not to continue his bid for presidency.
bernie is trying his best to redeem the democratic party and to reform it as much as he can before the november election so that young people vote for biden.
i can guarantee bernie hates biden as much as we do. he does not like him. he obviously agrees that he would be a better candidate than biden.
but he also recognizes there is no path forward where that is possible so he is going to spend the next 6 months begging democrats to become a party young people can support and begging young people to still support the democratic party.
because he recognizes trump is dismantling the american government before our eyes and not in the fun revolution way but in the scary fascist way. and he doesn’t want us to succumb to that.
if you love bernie and want his ideas to reach the white house, follow his lead in these next few months. vote for him in the primaries to get him delegates and then LISTEN to him at the convention and LISTEN when he tells us to still go vote.
A Proper Goodbye
So the season finale has unsurprisingly prompted a lot of Discourse among fans, and even casual viewers. Jasika was right; people will be talking about it until the show returns.
The word 'disrespect' has been used a lot: fans have been accused of 'disrespecting' the writers by calling the finale (and many arcs we've seen in Season 3) 'bad writing'. While I do think that term gets thrown around a lot whenever something happens a fan doesn't like, in this case I can see where they're coming from.
I only watched one episode since the winter finale, but that last episode has been everywhere. From what I've seen and read (including that infuriating David Shore interview) it very much seems that they wrote themselves into a corner. They wanted a big, life-threatening catastrophe for the season finale that would culminate in Shaun and Lea in each others' arms. The stakes had to be so high that Shaun would forget about Lea's prejudice and Lea would forget that Shaun screamed at her that she deserves to die alone. Someone had to go and, for whatever reason, they decided Melendez.
I wasn't a big fan of his since he demoted Claire and generally got off easy when he did something wrong but I appreciate why a lot of people liked him. To kill a major character so suddenly, and with fairly little fanfare does feel cheap. If that were the first time this show had killed someone off for no other reason than to develop another character or relationship then perhaps it wouldn't be so egregious. But this season alone, they killed Patricia just to drive a wedge between Neil and Audrey, they killed Claire's mom to bring her closer to Neil and they killed Shaun's dad to bring him closer to Lea. Finally they've killed Neil. To what end? My best guess is that it's the same reason they do most things: to make Claire suffer.
When this show started out it was so different and refreshing. A cast of mostly people of colour, an autistic lead character, an apparent willingness to take on social issues and represent the marginalised, ...Jared. It's not that show anymore and hasn't been since season one. The cruel death of Claire's mother and subsequent treatment of Carly made me start to hate the show, to be honest.
Respect goes both ways. When you make characters people care about and then mistreat them the audience gets tired of it. If deaths start to feel random, then why get attached to a character if they could be picked off just to serve someone else's story?
Possibly worse than death is to be forgotten. Used as a plot device or to develop another character then simply discarded without so much as a word. (Let's play a game: How many women has this show yeeted into the void so far?)
Shore talked about how the show needed to stay realistic and credible. The way I laughed when I read that.
But maybe he's right. There's nothing more realistic than killing people of colour and treating black women like shit.
Exactly my thoughts, I feel like I've been screaming big mad all week and honestly it's the only way I feel better about the series 🤷
So, what *is* Avatar: New Beginnings?
The story is set tens of thousands of years before that of Korra, Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, and the other Avatars you know and love. It follows the adventures of the second Avatar after Wan and the first Airbender Avatar ever, Hanami!
She’s an airbender from the Northern Air Tribe who’s largely sheltered from the outside world, but that all changes when she learns about who she really is and her destiny as the Avatar. Along her journey, she makes a few new friends, discovers a few ancient civilizations, and may or may not save the world.
On top of all that, she has to create what it means to be the Avatar in a world that doesn’t know what the Avatar is or how the cycle works. And that’s a big task in a new and strange world where the spirits aren’t there anymore and people are learning how to live without Lion Turtles.
Good doctor
For anyone that was wondering, Andrew's wife was never a thing. What I mean is that, Andrews was engaged in the first season, but due to pressures of her family, they broke it off. Her family was rich and wanted her to be a house wife, with kids and things and she didn't want that for herself, also her an Andrews also fought about if they wanted kids as well.
Holy shit.... Never Again Action (the group who started #JewsAgainstICE) had an ICE detention truck drive through them while they were shutting down Wayne Detention Center in Rhode Island this evening (August 14th).
Like they were holding the line across the entry gate and refusing to let night shift guards in and a massive truck just, fucking, drove up to them then slowed as the protestors got up from where they were sitting, alarmed, then the truck accelerated into people.
It doesn't seem like there are any serious injuries. The people who were around the truck after it stopped accelerating into people were pepper sprayed.
EDIT: Wyatt ICE Detention Center, not Wayne
SOURCE: Never Again Action's twitter livestream of the action and the car attack
The truck was driven by an ICE guard.
As this information is publicly available, the law in the US does not consider this doxxing, which is why it was on twitter on the first place. Here's the guy.
Its the same people. If you can stomach working for ICE its because you're a right-wing fascist. Same tactics, different day.
Fun fact, y’all!! Jewish protesters have been surrounding and shutting down ICE detention centers for weeks now, and we’re getting absolutely NO media coverage. None. In the slightest. And by jewish protesters I mean THOUSANDS OF US HAVE BEEN PROTESTING FOR NIGHTS ON END AND OVER 250 HAVE BEEN ARRESTED AT THIS POINT AND WE ARE GETTING ZERO COVERAGE. This is probably the biggest protest movement in american jewish history and it’s getting no coverage. We got hit with a truck DRIVEN BY A DETENTION CENTER GUARD and pepper sprayed and many people ended up in the hospital - one man in his sixties has a broken leg and a potentially broken back because of it. PLEASE REBLOG THIS. THOUSANDS OF YOUR JEWISH SIBLINGS ARE TRYING TO SHUT DOWN THE CENTERS AND WE’RE GETTING ZERO COVERAGE. PLEASE PLEASE SPREAD THIS AROUND.

Celebrating someone’s death seems like a really macabre thing to do. Like I get that people don’t like him because of how his administration dealt with the AIDS epidemic, but promoting someone’s death as a good thing doesn’t sit well with me.
during his administration, we had a problem with abuse of patients in mental healthcare facilities (asylums, but don’t call them that), and his response to it was just to shut down the entire system. he closed all public mental healthcare facilities because a few of them were mistreating patients, and all those mentally ill people suddenly found themselves homeless without the skills necessary to survive in the general populous. he’s the reason why our healthcare system is so terrible, and he’s to blame for the homelessness epidemic (i’ll get into the next reason why he’s responsible for our high homeless population in a sec). millions of people lost everything because of reagan. thousands died.
he also completely restructured our economy. from 1776 until he became president, we had an economic system like no other (look up the American School), but he removed most of the rules and regulations we had to keep the system in place because our system at the time limited accumulation of wealth. we had a built-in buffer that kept most people middle class. when he restructured our economy so he and his friends could get richer, reagan removed the safeguards that kept us out of poverty (most of the time), so now the lower echelons of society were in freefall towards homelessness. people lost their homes and businesses because the rich could do basically whatever they wanted now. superstores like wal-mart rose to prominence and pushed out small businesses because of this. our government also greatly reduced its expenditure on infrastructure. ronald reagan’s greed is why we don’t have enough trains and all our roads are falling apart.
he also expanded our already bloated military while in power. one of his slogans was “peace in strength.” his goal for our country was to get an iron grip around the rest of the world and impose our own agendas on other countries at gunpoint.
One of the first things reagan did when he came to power was to ignore the supreme court’s earlier ruling, ignore the constitution, and try to enforce a mandatory daily christian prayer time in all schools. when government workers went on strike against him and his policies, he fired 11,345 people. he put 11,345 people out of a job because they didn’t like him.
he lowered taxes for the rich, but increased taxes on the poor, contributing to the aforementioned lack of infrastructure and homelessness crisis. he also began privatising the government, which put thousands of jobs at risk and made wealthy capitalists the men who run our country. reagan is responsible for trickle down economics.
after the great depression, our government put in social programs to help people stay afloat, like universal healthcare for the elderly and disabled, basic income (the government paid people to dig ditches if they couldn’t find any other jobs. the ditches didn’t serve any purpose, but those people needed money and the government was willing to give money to anyone who worked), and food stamps. ronald reagan slashed all these programs and more, like the EPA, which made sure we were a “green” country.
as a result of these slashes, people who had been secure on government assistance programs were now having to take out loans and get into debt, which jeopardised our economy. we had a stock market crash because people were becoming too poor to buy stocks, and our national debt increased by 3 times. we went from $997 billion in debt to $2.85 trillion in 1987.
he also pushed us further into the cold war. previously, our relations with russia were cooling down a bit, but during reagan’s second term, he began actively threatening russia again. ronald reagan brought us to the brink of a nuclear war that would have killed all humans on earth.
Ronald Reagan and Maggie Thatcher, the most hated prime minister in UK history, were close friends. he was also personal friends with Donald Trump.
Under reagan, we resumed a history of violent military imperialism in foreign countries, most notably lebanon, afghanistan, and pakistan. In lebanon, we tried to stop a revolution against an oppressive regime, and in afghanistan and pakistan, reagan ordered the CIA to train civilians and create a military force to fight russia for us. Reagan created the taliban, a militant group that even today publicly dismembers people for playing games in public. they cut off children’s hands. He also began dealing weapons with China, betraying our longstanding ally, Taiwan, destabilising politics in the pacific. Under his orders, we secretly aided african and south american military dictatorships in crushing their opposition. He assisted Ayatollah Khomeini, the leader of Iran who started the 1979 revolution, in purging political opposition from the government. in 1988 our military shot down an iranian commercial flight, killing 290 civilians.
Reagan was a Nazi sympathiser and referred to slain SS officers as “victims” of the war. just to make sure you read that right: Ronald Reagan supported the Nazis.
He declared the war on drugs, a movement that has greatly increased the disproportionate incarceration rates of african american and latino men in this country.
During Reagan’s second term, 115,000 people were diagnosed with AIDS and 70,000 died of it. Reagan did nothing to curb the spread, despite knowing that the AIDS epidemic almost exclusively affected black people and the LGBT community. when he learned how many people were dying and who they were, he laughed. he laughed at our suffering while we were dropping dead.
In short, Ronald Reagan was a wealthy, selfish, greedy, capitalistic, imperialist, racist, ableist, homophobic, genocidal, antisemitic, warmongering, backstabbing murderer. Ronald Reagan was a monster.
Wow and this didn’t even cover the crack epidemic

Mystery Surrounding Dead Woman Found at Sleepover; Police Trying to Cover Up Story
Tamala Horsford, 40, died on November 4, 2018 after attending an overnight “football moms” slumber party with 7 women at a home in Forsyth County, GA. Horsford’s body was discovered facedown in the backyard by the homeowner’s aunt when she arrived at 7:30 the next morning.
Three men also attended the all-women’s sleepover. One of those men, probation officer Jose Barrera, was later terminated from his job after he meddled in the investigation and harassed Horsford’s friend, Michelle Wynne Graves, who started asking questions about Horsford’s death.
By “coincidence”, Barrera’s girlfriend is the owner of the house where Horsford died under suspicious circumstances.
Though her injuries were inconsistent with that of a fall from a balcony, the second this story began gaining traction on social media, Police hurried to close the case and determined her death was due to falling from being intoxicated from alcohol.

What the fuck is happening?
You know what really fucking bothers me about school in general?
It took away my passion.
Before high school I loved to read. I devoured books over and over, stayed up reading with a flashlight when I needed to know what happened next chapter, cherished every book and refused to crack their spines.
Now I can’t remember the last time I read a real book. In English class they would assign us Great Gatsby and Frankenstein and Heart of Darkness and Grapes of Wrath and I couldn’t bring myself to read a single one. Too many things to do, not enough time. Reading became a burden, not an escape.
So I just stopped. I stopped reading every second I had free time. I stopped picking up books in the bookstore. I gave away half my collection. I keep saying “I’ll get back into it soon” but it’s been years.
I stopped reading because I was being forced to read books I wasn’t interested in, and now I’m being forced to read 200 pages a week from textbooks to not fail my classes. I stopped reading because school killed that passion.
This is the exact same experience i had with reading.
