One of my favorite things to do that really gets the readers is reverse psychology where the guy doesn’t seem to care but then at the end all those little things come rushing in like a great flood of cute fluff and nostalgic angst as the reader is piecing everything together and I’m just ✨💞💕💓💝💘 100% soft and crying
Like for example in one story I wrote for a friend Felix went: “Tell her she looks nice, but not as nice as you. Ask her when she plans on going out next, cause you could really use a Number Five from Wendy’s and you forgot your wallet. When you’re walking down the shopping district and her feet start to hurt because she made the smart choice of wearing heels, laugh. She loves flowers– when you pass by a florist, immediately look the other way and pretend not to notice. And then at the end of the day, after she can’t possibly take anymore of your bs…remind her again that she doesn’t look as nice as you. She looks better. The lunch she bought you from Wendy’s? She’ll never know you slipped enough and extra into her wallet the night before, because you know you’re going out for milkshakes after. When you laugh as she’s complaining of pain, you’re really laughing at how much pain you’re going to be in later after giving her your shoes, and the strange looks you’ll get for walking around barefoot. When you pretended to ignore her before? You don’t want her to guess and you don’t want to give any hints to the giant mess of roses you have waiting for her at home. Roses are her favorite next to sunflowers, but they pale in comparison to how gorgeous her smile is when she first sees them sitting there on the kitchen table, her face illuminated by soft moonlight from the lake’s surface. And as you watch her brown eyes shine brighter than any star the two of you have had the pleasure of strolling beneath during your long talks on the beach, you know deep down that one day she’s going to make some other guy the richest man alive, because true value is found in things that are intangible.”
