Mystery story time: Tumblr, what do you think happened here?

When I was an exchange student in college I did a home stay with a family of five who lived in a theee-story house. The parents’ room, grandfather’s room, and my room were on the first floor. Living room, dining room were on the second floor. The two kids’ rooms were on the third floor.

The kids were a ten-year-old boy and 13 or 14-year old girl. The parents seemed very much in love and happy together.

One day, I had a half day of school and came home around lunchtime. Both parents worked (although the mom was only part time) and the grandfather was involved in all kids of community activities so no one was home… or so I thought.

But when I went up to the living room I heard what I can only describe as sexual moaning coming from one of the kids’ rooms upstairs. I assumed it was one of the kids… one of them had gotten their hands on a porn video, or maybe the older girl was doing something either alone or with a boy? Embarrassed, and also not wanting to embarrass whoever it was, I went down to my own room and did something else for an hour or so.

Once an amount of time had passed, I went back up to the living room, which was now quiet. I was watching TV when… the MOM came down the stairs from the third floor. She seemed surprised I was there, but I explained that school had finished early and she was like “Oh, OK!” and just went about her chores.

To this day, I have no idea what happened. Was there someone else in the house who left while I was in my room? But if you were going to cheat on your spouse, why do it in the KIDS’ ROOMS? Same question stands if it was porn or masturbation… just so, so weird.

The kids came home later that evening at the usual time, so it wasn’t them. I only ever heard a female voice—not sure if it was the mom’s voice or not. The family was very normal and nothing else like that happened the entire time I was there… but I guess that one day, she decided to do something kinky in one of her kids’ rooms???

OMFG this embarrasses me so much because while my answer is “yes” now, I was a pure and virginal and clueless demisexual 20 year old when I first stumbled across Hide and his band… Spread Beaver.

I had ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE what that meant, and there were a SHIT TON of Japanese bands with English names that looked like someone just randomly opened a dictionary and pointed at a page, so I assumed it was just a case of random Engrish-itis.

I do not want to think of the number of people I showed this “stupid Japanese band name” before i realized that it wasn’t stupid at all, Hide knew EXACTLY what he was doing getting these prim little newscasters to say the name of his band on national TV with exactly as much clue as I had…. 😂

I feel like all the people answering “office worker” here have probably never worked an office job? Like middle managers who think they’re hot shit are TEN THOUSAND TIMES WORSE than the dude trying to return something that’s already been used or the table that orders one kid’s meal and feeds everyone else on the free breadsticks? Like SO MUCH WORSE YALL.

I honestly don’t know how some of the people I went to high school with are as rich as they seem to be. Teen mom with three baby daddies? Is a landlord who regularly posts her latest Louis Vuitton haul. Mormon convert with six kids? Took three vacations this year and counting.

Like the one who got her masters and became a CEO, or the one who married a doctor I get…. But I can’t figure out if these other people like… won the lottery or something or are just really good at lying on Facebook???

Sometimes I feel kinda hypocritical because I LOVE makeup when it’s like glitter lips, thick kohl around the eyes, super dramatic “don’t dream it, be it” level stuff BUT I also hate that society dictates that I have to wear a boring version of it to be seen as “professional” or “fit for company” or whatever.

Like I either wanna roll out of bed and go to the supermarket as I am or experiment with the whole damn MAC catalogue. There is no in between. (Except there is, because I am not independently wealthy and have to pretend to be a loyal corporate slave 5 days a week.)

Sometimes I think about the fact that I was a bored kid who wanted to Write Stories and I’d sometimes look through the phone book for ideas for character names.

And that in my local phone book there was an entry for “Beeblebrox, Zaphod”.

I don’t know if that was like, a self-named person just living their best life or someone trolling the phone company or someone AT the phone company trolling geeky teens who read the phone book. But I hope they’re doing well.

I say this as someone in a trade who loves trades and tells people in real life they should consider trades, I sometimes get a little annoyed when academics do the same thing and talk about how important trades are and more people need to go into trades. Because, no, not them, obviously. Not anyone in their families or their social circles. Just, you know... The poors.
