Do you think Monty's momma recognizes him? Do you think Esthers wards hold her back every morning as she routinely pecks at them trying to get the baby back she lost all those years ago...

Maybe it happened in the blink of an eye, the one time she wasn't sitting on her nest, out getting food for her first chick after she couldn't wait for her mate to come back. Feathers ruffling while listening to her first baby peep... She was only gone for a second.

Esther raising Monty from a hatchling because familiars bond deeper that way, magic flows better.

Monty recognizing the sound of his momma's voice and even when fully grown and stuck in his cage, he still hears her trying to get him back...

Would they recognize each other after Monty is turned human? Would his memories transfer cleanly or would they be muddled, human and crow senses too different....

His momma startling when she sees him walk out of the front door when she knows nobody else but Esther and her prey go inside, and they never get to leave... He doesn't match the profile of the little girls Esther brings home to feed to her snake, she knows every face to walk in or out.

Monty seeing and fixating on her, unsure why she seems so familiar... She caws at him and he can't breathe. His momma would know those eyes anywhere even though her baby isn't a crow anymore.

Another little thing I appreciate in Dead Boy Detectives is that most of them are not fashionable, at least in the stereotypical sense. Edwin looks put together, until you remember he's wearing a school uniform. Niko has some colourful outfits, but most are a little odd. Crystal even as a mean, rich girl was wearing whatever the heck she wanted. Esther, what are your outfit choices?

Truth is, I don’t have a crow or snake at all right now, it’s so lonely. If only my Monty would bother to visit… I’m not sure I’m ready to replace him just yet
