His outfit wasn’t that much different from before: he still wore the brown overcoat that belonged to his father and still had on that same white button-down shirt, although it seemed to be thoroughly cleaned. It was neatly tucked into his nice black dress pants, buttoned up and he had a black tie dangling from his collar.
“Wow…” was all Sloth muttered as he approached the end of the table, looking at Gwynevere with a big smile. “All this for little old me? I’m so honored.”
As the servant entered, Sloth glanced away at the floor, not looking at the servant as they filled his glass. “Thank you…” he mutters, blushing a little. He was not used to the rich lifestyle Gwynevere was accustomed to. It was…humbling, for him. Technically he was on the same level as that servant, which made it kind of awkward.
She nods her head slightly at the servant, before looking over to Cecil, who she had noticed very visibly wilt. “Are you alright…?”
She picks the glass up and brings it to her lips, sipping at it carefully.
“…that guy is in the same status here as me. It just seems weird to be served by someone whom I’ve met in the training sessions here. “ Sloth stated, looking up again as the servant left. “I’m just a peasant here. You’re royalty. But sometimes I forget that.”
“Oh my– I apologize.” She flushes a deep red, this time due to embarrassment. “Sometimes I forget as well, I should have put some thought into how you would feel being served. The chef is bringing out the rest, or I would ask to switch servers.”
“No no, it’s fine, it’s just….going to be awkward meeting them later. Probably gonna get teased or judged. One of the two.” Sloth responded, offering Gwynevere an apologetic smile. “But its nothing too bad. I can handle something like that, I’m a grown man.”
“Fair enough,” she sighs. “I just worry sometimes. I have a very skewed idea of how things are supposed to be, I have never done this too much.”
“I think you’re doing fine!” Sloth retorted, trying to give her her confidence back. “I mean, you’re trying your best. And you are succeeding! That is what matters!”
One of her hands goes up to scratch at the back of her neck. “That is very much appreciated, Cecil. As long as you enjoy it, I am certainly doing something right.”
“Well, I can really only enjoy it if you are.” Sloth responded, laughing nervously. “After all, whats the point if we aren’t both enjoying ourselves?”
“Well, of course I am enjoying it. It is you that we are speaking about.” She grins, trying to reassure him.
Smoothing her skirt out under the table, Gwynevere patiently awaits her date. The end of the large, golden table was sprinkled with white rose petals, and a few candles were set on the table to create the perfect mood. She ran her fingers through her hair, fixing the headpiece she wore and tried to perfect any small detail as she waited for Cecil to arrive.
When the door to the room opened, Cecil stepped into the room and looked around in awe.
