Do YOU like writing tgaa fics, but find yourself struggling to understand the speech habits of Gina Lestrade? Well, fortunately for you, I love linguistics and accents almost as much as I love Gina - so I've compiled a breakdown of every quirk in her speech!
(Full analysis under the break!)
Most of Gina's speech patterns can be broken down by three fundamental facts:
She speaks with a thick Cockney accent
She's uneducated, which leads to various grammar troubles
She uses a lot of informal cockney terms/slang
Let's get into it section-by-section!
(Note: Formatting looks a lot better on mobile!)
Section 1: Cockney Accent
So I’m an theater kid, and I've done dialect training for Cockney accents before - it's one of my best ones imo - so that certainly helped me write this section! Even without that, though, it's pretty easy to identify how her accent appears in her speech. Let's break it down!
Drop h's
Example: Here becomes 'ere
Drop g’s at the end of words
Example: Going becomes goin'
A few other word ends that get dropped:
Of becomes o'
And becomes an'
Th changes depending on the word - Thank you to annoyingloudmicrowavecultist for properly explaining how this works in the tags!
Voiced th becomes v
Example: With becomes wiv
Unvoiced th becomes f
Example: Nothing becomes nuffin'
For writing purposes, if a word would become unrecognizable with this change, it's left the same (but in actual speech, it would be pronounced differently)
Example: Father remains as father (but would be pronounced like fovva)
Th always remains intact at the start of words
Example: Thing remains as thing (but would be pronounced like fing)
Miscellaneous word changes
Something becomes summat (but other times is just somefin' - she's not consistent with either)
What becomes wot, whatever becomes wotever
Tomorrow becomes tomorra
Because is often shortened to 'cause, which becomes cos
Isn't almost always becomes ain't
Thank you / no thank you becomes ta / no ta
Some words spill together or are slurred
With that becomes wivvat, with it becomes wivvit (This one isn't actually used in-game, so you don't have to use it either, but it reflects how she'd actually be pronouncing it)
Isn't it becomes innit
Doesn't it becomes dunnit
Suppose becomes s'pose
Don't know becomes dunno
Probably becomes prob'ly
You might change - Another loose/inconsistent rule. Can depend on how the sentence would be pronounced out loud, but mostly is just a vibe
You becomes ya
Your/you're becomes yer
Yourself becomes yerself
Section 2: Grammatical Errors
Gina is an uneducated East End orphan, so it should come as no surprise that she makes mistakes here and there. Here are her consistent ones! Some of these are confusing/hard to explain, so I included specific examples.
Will say me instead of my, and meself instead of myself
Example: "I dunno much about guns meself."
Incorrect tense usage of was/were in negatives - Instead of I/it wasn’t, she’ll say I/it weren’t
Example: "I was up in a balloon, weren't I?"
Incorrect tense usage of does/do in negatives - Instead of he doesn’t, she’ll say he don’t
Example: "Somefin' wot 'e don't want people readin'."
Double negatives
Ever becomes never in negative statements
Example: "I swear on my life, I ain't never laid eyes on that dandy before."
Never + anything becomes never + nothing
Example: "I never done nuffin' o' the sort!"
Never + anyone becomes never + no one
Example: "All me life, growin' up in the slums, I've never trusted no one."
Haven't you ever becomes ain't you never
Example: "Ain't you lot never gone over an 'ouse lookin' for dough when the owners are out o' town?"
The word that or who in the context of ascribing a feature to a subject is replaced by the word what
Example: "She's always goin' on about all them cases wot Sholmes is lookin' into."
Other example: "I think I wouldn't fancy me chances wiv a lawyer wot lives in a place like this."
Will say them instead of those
"All them skylights open, dead easy."
Will say no more instead of anymore
"Ya dropped it, so it ain't yours no more."
She’ll sometimes mess up bigger, unfamiliar words. This one's entirely in your discretion what words she might mess up. Some canon examples:
“Supperment” instead of supplement
“Mantlescript” instead of manuscript
On a similar note, she'll sometimes confidently get sayings wrong and think she sounds smart
“Toby's...'ow did they put it...? ...Oh, yeah! A 'bone-fide' detective!”
Section 3: Cockney Terms/Slang
In addition to her thick dialect, growing up in the East End means Gina has also adopted a plethora of unique words and phrases. This'll be more like a vocab section!
Cockney rhyming slang - Some words are replaced with phrases that rhyme with them. She uses a few in canon:
Instead of believe, she’ll say Adam an’ Eve
“Would you Adam an' Eve it, eh?! Wot a mug!”
Instead of face, she’ll say chevy chase
“Yeah, I can see it written all over yer chevy chase!”
Interjections/Exclamations
Blimey - Express surprise or shock
"Blimey, yer right! That streak o' light in the photo looks just like an arrow, dunnit?"
Cor - A general interjection, kind of a euphemism for god
"Cor, listen to you! Ya stumble across a bit o' balloon an' suddenly yer the best investigator in the world!"
Oi - I doubt I need to define this one, but it's basically the equivalent of "hey"
"Oi! That's off limits up there!"
Words for people
Cove, bloke - A boy or man. Gina tends to use cove more often than bloke.
"That's where the cove ended up after 'is 'instant kinesis' or wotever they call it."
"When I lifted the last bloke's purse, 'e got wise to me."
Dandy - A conceited, fashionable upperclass man. Can be used as a noun or adjective.
In reference to Ashley Graydon: "I swear on my life, I ain't never laid eyes on that dandy before."
Dee - Thank you to uzukirie for figuring this out in the replies of this post - dee is short for detective!
To Sholmes: "I don't need no 'elp from some stuck-up dee!"
About Gregson: "Yeah, the dee let me keep it. After I looked daggers at 'im for long enough."
Swell - A wealthy or elegant person. In canon, Gina uses this exclusively in reference to McGilded.
"It's because o' that, this swell found me. …'E did 'elp me get away, mind."
Miscellaneous vocab
Dodgy - Suspicious
"It was amazin' when you showed that dodgy professor's dodgy experiment was a total fix!"
Rum - Odd or strange
"I mean, wot's the point of spendin' a joey to make a few bob, eh? That's a rum idea, innit?"
Coppers - Cops
"If you do wot the grown-ups tell ya, it'll get yer mates dragged off by the coppers. Or worse."
Scarper - Flee/run away/leave in a hurry. Also comes from rhyming slang - Scarper = Scapa Flow = Go
"If I did that, 'e said 'e'd let me scarper before the coppers showed up."
Have a butcher's - Take a look. Also comes from rhyming slang - "butcher's hook" = look
"Most days I push the cushion up wiv me 'ead an' look out the crack. Then I can 'ave a butcher's at who I'm gonna fiddle."
Rude words/phrases :)
Gordon Bennett - Expresses surprise or contempt - kind of a euphemism for goddammit.
"Gordon Bennett! You lot!"
Flamin', bleedin', - General emphasis. Pretty much just gentler ways of saying fucking.
Note!! You might be tempted to make Gina say "bloody", since that's well-known British slang, but she never says that. She says bleedin' in its place.
"Don't be so flamin' rude, 'Oddo!"
"It's lies every bleedin' place ya look in this world, innit?"
Bleedin’ Nora - A variation of "Bloody Norah", a surprised/irritated interjection.
"Wot the bleedin' Nora, 'Oddo?! Wot 'ave you gone an' done?!"
Bogtrotter - A derogatory term for an Irish person. She uses this to refer to McGilded.
"Look at the mess it's got you into, believin' in that bogtrotter!"
Mug - An idiot.
"You can't do it from inside, you mug."
Blue blazes - An alliterative exaggeration of "blazes". A euphemism for hell.
"Where the blue blazes 'ave you been, eh?"
Cobblers - Rubbish/nonsense. Literally, it means testicles - derived from Cockney rhyming slang, where "cobbler's awls" = balls.
"All this nonsense about the boss plannin' to kill people… It's cobblers!"
And 1.2k words later, that's pretty much it! Now you can write Gina dialogue spot on <3
Feel free to suggest anything I'm missing/got wrong - I come back and edit this for accuracy's sake every time I notice something I left out, or when people in the replies/tags point things out!
The following list is in no way all-inclusive. I will do my utmost to update this section as the EN server progresses in story and translations become known.
(If I’ve overlooked anything, don’t hesitate to message me about it!)
Night Raven College
Mage Training Academy - “Wizarding Boarding School” (lit., no one uses this term, though)
Thaumarks - Madol (Magic Dollars)
There is no equivalent for “Sorcents” in the original canon, as Madol more closely converts to Japanese yen, whereas Thaumarks seem to reflect United States dollar values. The “cent” of Japanese currency (sen) has been obsolete for decades.

Spelldrive - Magift (Magic Shift)

Disclaimer: I am not Japanese, I am far from being fluent in Japanese, and I am not very involved in the Japanese TWST fanbase. If you’re good at Japanese PLEASE add on to this or correct me if there are mistakes.
I haven’t seen anything like this around here, so I thought I would try to make a little thing to help people who also aren’t good at Japanese.
Resources
deepL : a translator created by a deep learning ai company. Extremely good (though not perfect of course), dump google translate right now and switch to this to make your life so much better.
jisho : An online dictionary. You can input english, japanese, and romaji japanese. There’s options to input kanji by drawing it or selecting radicals (the parts that make up a kanji) and there’s voice input. Great for translating single words/phrases. You can also use it to figure out the parts of a sentence since it tries to separate out and translate each part, though it’s not 100% reliable.
kanji . sljfaw . org : Another resource for finding kanji. I usually use its multiradical by type option, which separates the radical options into enclosure, left, upper, middle, and less common elements.
hougen . hirosakicity . com : An example of dictionary for Tsugaru dialect, the dialect Epel uses. This doesn’t cover every single Tsugaru dialect word though. When I was trying to understand Epel in the December update I had to use like 3 different dictionaries.
Any search engine : “Meaning” in Japanese is 意味. Put that after whatever word/phrase you need help with and search it, hopefully you’ll find something.
kamigame . jp/ツイステ : Japanese TWST wiki
If you’re learning Japanese like me, I recommend using quizlet or something so you can make a collection of words you’ve had to look up and then test yourself on them occasionally to increase the chances of remembering it.
Finally, if you can’t read hiragana/katakana, please learn it it will probably help you a lot. It’s not scary alright, just read the learning hiragana and katakana guides on tofugu then find a quizlet set and keep testing yourself on them until you’ve got those mnemonics down well. You’ll be slower than a snail at reading it at first but just keep getting practice and it’ll gradually get faster and feel more natural to you.
Ship names
The Japanese spellings for stuff like the character names can all be found on the english wiki, so I’m not putting them all here.
I’ll teach you how to form TWST ship names though, based on my observations. Ship names are generally formed using the first 2 katakana of each person’s name. First 3 if there’s small katakana. If there’s a dash in the way, it’ll either stop before it like Deuce (デュース) becoming Deu (デュ) or it will delete the dash to keep going like Ace (エース) becoming エス. Also Jack (ジャック) becomes ジャク. Idk, use common sense to try and reason out what is short yet still identifiable as the character. If you can’t figure it out just search for the character, scroll until you see an obviously shippy image, then check its tags.
Anyway, those shortened names are then smashed together with the “seme” going first to form the ship name. If you search a ship and you don’t find much, try switching around the names.
Examples:
Floyd (フロイド) + Riddle (リドル) = FuroRido (フロリド)
Jade (ジェイド) + Silver (シルバー) = JeiShiru (ジェイシル)
You notice something about Floyd and Jade’s names? Yes, they both end in ido (イド). This is why ships involving the two of them with someone else are named things like IdoAzu (イドアズ) and IdoKali (イドカリ). Be careful not to mix up イドアズ with イデアズ, which is Idia and Azul.
A thing to note about names in general in the Japanese fan base is that they often use emojis for characters (ex. Jade is 🐬). Search ツイステの絵文字 in google images and you’ll find multiple guides on what characters are what emoji.
Random Pixiv tags and vocabulary in no particular order:
This is incredibly informative, OP! With my knowledge of the Japanese language, I’m sure I can contribute something worthwhile.
(A quick note before we proceed: emojis are more commonly used on Twitter due to the character limit. Regardless, much of what was mentioned in the original post applies to Twitter hashtags as well.)
Dorm & Character Name Abbreviation and Emoji Index

・ツイステプラス / twstプラス - Works that are generally “feel-good” in nature. May also include romantic themes. The opposite is ツイステマイナス / twstマイナス.
Can also include original characters. Normally the party is assumed female, but sometimes a distinction to the contrary is made with the inclusion of either the letter “B” or “Q” at the end. In these cases, the former denotes a male original character, whereas the latter represents a queer or genderfluid individual.
・夜のツイステ - Mature works, NSFW. Generally combined with the former. (夜のツイステプラス / 夜のtwstプラス)

Hi hi! I was wondering if you had a list of how the characters refer to each other? Like which honorifics they use or if they use full names, etc.
Hi! This would be a bit difficult to compile since there’s many specifics to them (ie. some nicknames are only used indirectly and not to a character’s face, some are very redundant / general rules would apply to them / some are special cases).
I’ll put as much as I can under the cut- Many cases haven’t been spoken in-game yet too / I probably missed some so this isn’t complete. As such, when I say “XX refers to everyone by ....” this may be subject to change as more chapters come out (or I read them lol) & we get more examples / different forms of address.
I’ll reformat these and add them to my Nicknames post when I can!
I didn’t want to type this out for every character, but generally they will use “[Name]-senpai” or “Senpai” for anyone in the grades above them (unless stated otherwise).
Also I’m sorry this is a mess 😂
Heartslabyul
Riddle uses Kantokusei for Yuu, omits honorifics for younger grades.
Ace uses both Kantokusei and Yuu. Sometimes calls Jack and Deuce “Majime-kun” (majime means very on-task & dedicated) or just their first names. Calls Riddle “Riddle-ryouchou.”
Deuce uses both Kantokusei and Yuu. Uses last names for his senpais instead of first names. Calls Riddle “Rosehearts-ryouchou.”
Trey calls everyone by their first name with no honorifics. Uses Kantokusei for Yuu.
Cater adds -chan to the 1st years’ first names except Jack; he uses -kun. For Yuu, it’s Kantokusei-chan or Yuu-chan. Grim is Gri-chan, Chenya is Chenyan. So far has used -kun for 2nd years and above. He calls himself Cay-kun.
Savanaclaw
Leona often uses “Herbivore” both for Yuu and when referring to others. Tbh I don’t know what warrants this nickname when it’s not for Yuu but ik he’s done it before 💦
He refers to Riddle as “Akai bocchan” (Red Young Master) and Azul as “Tako-yarou” (Octopunk) but these are usually indirectly, not to their faces. When he’s addressing them he just uses their first names without honorifics.
One time referred to Idia as a radish sprout.
Various nicknames for Malleus: Tsuno Tarou, Obocchama (Young Master), Tokage (Lizard), Bakemono (Monster)
Jack generally calls Yuu by their name without honorifics, uses -senpai for most of his senpais (especially Ruggie and Leona). Has referred to the tweels as the “eel brothers.”
Ruggie uses Yuu-kun. Generally uses -kun for everyone except the 3rd years (where he uses -san).
Octavinelle
Azul tends to use -san for most everyone, only omits honorifics for Floyd & Jade.
Jade also uses -san for most everyone, omits honorifics for Azul & Floyd.
Floyd.... see here. No honorifics for Jade. He used “Tako-chan” (Octopus) for Azul up until middle school, since then he calls him by name alone.
Scarabia
Kalim calls Yuu by Kantokusei or their name. Generally doesn’t use any honorifics for anyone, even those above him.
Jamil only calls Yuu by their name.
Pomefiore
Vil doesn’t use honorifics. Calls the Pomefiore 1st years “fresh potatoes,” while he calls Epel “baby potato.”
Epel uses -kun for the 1st years, -san or -senpai for his superiors.
Rook uses -kun for everyone if not using one of his nicknames. Exception is for Vil, there are no honorifics.
Ignihyde
Idia often switches from “boku” to “sessha” when referring to himself. Both of these are 1st person pronouns but “sessha” is like... something a samurai would use.
He uses -shi after everyone’s first name, except for Ortho-- no honorifics.
Ortho refers to everyone by their full name and adds -san after it. He calls Idia Niisan.
Diasomnia
Malleus has called Yuu “child of man,” Leona “a beast of the plains,” and threateningly called Rook “human.” Generally he refers to everyone by their last name without any honorifics. Exceptions are Silver, Sebek, Lilia, and Sam, where he uses their first names (still omitting honorifics).
Sebek often calls Yuu “Human” but sometimes uses their name alone. His only senpai that he doesn’t use honorifics with is Silver. He calls Malleus “Waka-sama” and Lilia “Lilia-sama.”
Lilia doesn’t use honorifics for anyone. Once called some students who were giving him trouble “brats” (kojoku-domo).
Silver calls Lilia old man/Father in private.. He tries to keep it a secret but often lets it slip. In public he’s supposed to use Lilia-senpai.

In these cases, the former denotes a male original character, whereas the latter represents a queer or genderfluid individual.
・夜のツイステ - Mature works, NSFW. Generally combined with the former. (夜のツイステプラス / 夜のtwstプラス)

Night Raven College
Mage Training Academy - “Wizarding Boarding School” (lit., no one uses this term, though)

A3! Event Story Translation “NEW ERA GARDEN” [Chapter 6]
These old men got so much drama even I'm stressed out 💀
Yukio
I think Soji Okita isn’t inhuman, rather, a soldier who clung dearly to his life.
Reni
I want to show off Okita’s way of life beautifully.
Yukio
Reni, I want to see your more human and flawed Soji!
Kasumi
…Wait, more fighting from the two of you this time? Are you good?
Yuzo
I think they’re both getting heated up since they wanna make the performance good. Maybe it’s best to leave them be.
Reni
I have to disagree with what you’re saying, I just can’t picture it.
If you insist on it so much, you do it then.
Yukio
——...
Even if I do it, it’s not the same Soji Okita who’ll bloom the way Reni does.
Reni
…
*Syu claps to get rid of the tension in the air*
Syu
Alright alright, let’s take a break here.
Reni
——.
Yukio
You’re right, my bad. I’ll go buy a few drinks.
Reni
…
Syu
Looks like you guys reverted back to the old days too.
Reni
No way. At my age, I can’t afford to get mad.
Syu
I sure hope so.
(But I had to step in between them again.)
(——Back then, I was the same as I am now, and got dragged into it too.)
I had never liked Yukio Tachibana since I first joined the troupe, even after Reiji left the troupe, I had a hard time changing my mind about him. The reason I even joined MANKAI Company was because Reiji asked me to.
Should I even continue starring in the play without him?
At that time I was worried when he left the theater, wondering if he’ll be replaced by someone new, we didn’t have much contact anymore.
I blamed it all on Yukio Tachibana for befriending him.
My frustrations built up so much I felt like I could have a heart attack, so I avoided any contact with Yukio for a while, as much as possible.
The first day of the Winter Troupe’s performance comes amidst the circumstances,
I ignored all of Yukio’s directional orders and acted on my own selfish impulses during the production.
My actions were 100% anti-Yukio, I moved immaturely without thinking about the members of the troupe.
After the performance, Yukio came up to me as I was changing, looking calm as ever.
“...Was that the way you wanted to bloom, Syu-san?”
Interrupted, I nodded in frustration.
“I see… That’s fine.”
Yukio said quietly, it felt like I was caught in a lie.
I wasn’t thinking about the stage at all.
I just wanted to take out my frustrations on Yukio.
That must’ve been the worst thing I could have done as an actor.
It was the biggest mistake in my long career as an actor since I was a child.
Eventually, not just the Winter Troupe got worried, but the other troupes members were concerned as well, that’s when I came to my senses.
Soon after, I followed through with the original directions the next day and continued to perform.
I thought about what a total sham of an actor I’ve become.
Then, when the final days of the performance came, Yukio stopped by again.
I’d rather get punished for the show I put on the first day, or better yet, get kicked out of the troupe entirely.
Just when I made up my mind about it, Yukio’s next words came as a shock to me.
“I’m thinking of having you play the lead role in the next Winter Troupe play.”
“Hah?”
“I got the idea after seeing your performance on the first day. It doesn’t fit this performance, but it showed a new side of Syu-san.”
“The darker side of Syu-san, who’s always cynical and masculine, was hidden away…
I was thrilled to think that even in that kind of direction, you might flourish onstage. Perhaps I was a little caught up in stereotypes. So I’d like to try a new take on your play in the next show.”
Yukio said all that with a twinkle in his eyes…
At the same time as I was swayed by his courage, I also realized that I really didn’t like this guy.
Even in the most tough situations, he sees through his opposition calmly and follows his heart as a director and theater artist rather than his own personal feelings.
It was a far cry from me, who almost ruined the play with my personal grudges.
As a theater guy, I couldn’t help but grind my teeth.
I didn’t like him as a person, but as a theater artist, I respected him and thought that’s what I want to be.
That's why, I decided I couldn’t end things there.
At that moment, I swore to myself that I wouldn’t quit the troupe… until I’ve stolen all I can learn from this man.
Reni
…Cheers.
Syu
Yukio and Hiro are also going out for drinks today.
Reni
It seems they take turns in inviting one another during rehearsals. Another thing I can’t quite comprehend.
Syu
It was interesting that he happened to invite Yuzo to a drink first.
Reni
To be fair, they don’t really get the chance that often.
Syu
Yuzo, me, now Hiro, then Zen next. Has he already invited you too, Reiji?
Reni
…We already made plans to go well before rehearsals began, there’s nothing that needs to be said between us now.
Syu
I think you two need to make up and take the time to discuss Soji Okita’s image and compromise on something.
Reni
…And your own image of Toshizo Hijikata is?
Syu
About that…
I also talked about it with Yukio the other day when we had drinks here.
Yukio
He differs as a leader compared to the straightforward Isami Kondo, he will do whatever it takes to achieve his goals in an open-minded way…
I think that kind of image best suits you, Syu-san.
Even back in the first generation, you thought more about the stage than your own personal feelings, you always put yourself first as an actor and a performer, right?
I think I saw Hijikata in you…
Syu
(...This man got no idea I learned it all from him, though.)
Reni
An open-minded approach, huh… I see.
Syu
…Speaking of, I secretly informed the members of the first Winter Troupe about the occasion.
Reni
…We settled on making this confidential.
Syu
Come on, GOD-za knows about it too anyway, don’t they?
Reni
…
Some mishaps happened last time in “Traces of a Dream”, so I couldn’t tell them in advance.
Syu
Because of Yukio’s indiscriminate cast scouting, many of the first gen actors had jobs on the side and didn’t really have an intention of making a living doing theater anyway.
Even though most of them aren’t in the industry now, they were all happy.
Even if they’re not in theater, even if they’re not on the stage now, we won’t ever change. We’ll always be the friends who were once on the same stage.
The bonds of a relationship aren’t something you can completely break off… That’s the conclusion I came to after witnessing the newborn troupe.
Reni
…
Syu
…For all that we’ve lost, we still gained something. You’re one of those, aren’t you?
Reni
…Yes.
…However, there are times where I recall that I was once lost.
Syu
The Soji in your mind is Yukio, isn’t it?
Reni
…
An aspiration that will be never fulfilled, an idol.
That was all I could think about and follow throughout the rehearsal.
I vowed to stop chasing after what I’ve lost… I’ve sworn on it.
Syu
Talk to Yukio and open up before the actual show starts. He reminisces about the past, too.
That’s why I’m telling you, you have to let him talk this time.
Spring Troupe 9th Play: Literature Impasse — 文学隘路 【Masterlist】
SUMMARY: The schedule for the 9th plays have been set, and the lead of the Spring Troupe performance is Tsuzuru!
When he decided to pursue a career as a playwright after graduating from university, he had a desire to grow by writing scripts that met the needs of those outside the theatre company.
Then, word gets out that Syu's theater company is looking for a replacement playwright as their current playwright's physical condition is worsening due to old age.
With the director's recommendation, Tsuzuru is assigned to write a script for Syu.
However, Tsuzuru was plunged into days of worrying what to write when he was asked to write "a script that comes from his heart, a selfish script".
Maybelle Lace and I are working together to translate Act 12!
This is where the translated “script” version of all chapters will be, similar to the structure of Yaycupcake Wiki page and other translations on here.
Maybelle will be uploading the full video of Act 11 & 12 ((at the beginning of 2024)), and has already uploaded the other Acts, newest event stories, and Backstage Stories—all translated— onto YouTube, so please check it out and support them if your able to!
We have a lot of the chapters done, and I will uploading Act 12: Episode 1 on October 31!
Unfortunately, however, there won’t be an upload schedule of the translations on this blog for the time being.
Sorry about that (٥。•‸•̀。)
Lastly, even though I haven’t worked with them, I still wanted to mention the Middling Director channel on YouTube, as they have uploaded all of the English server’s content before it shut down. Please check it out and support them if you can! 🌷
My favorite thing about A3's Phantom of the Opera is that Tsuzuru so clearly watched the original expecting the Phantom and Christine to be endgame and just never got over it
