Hello kiddies its theory time.

So we see a transformation from a human to monster 

and just before it we see this man (bruce) in the same hallway.

We also see a clip of a new lab (underneath the mall) that is building some sort of generator,

I believe the machine is made to make a new gate to the upside down BUT

The generator blows up in their face, causing people to burn away.

What if Bruce is apart of the Russians and was in the lab during the time of the explosion. Instead of being blown away what if he absorbed the power and is able to transform into the monster we saw at the end. 

(or maybe he is just an experiment by the Russians)
