the way Marianne's hands are usually shown partially petrified (possibly because her rifle was known to cause burns with prolonged use, or perhaps because the artists just wanted to make that skill visible) got me thinking about how her petrification ability is actually kind of useful for sewing since she doesn't need to use a thimble
i find ena's jirai kei association pretty interesting now that i'm looking into it more. i've said before that if mafuyu is a "good girl," then ena must be a "bad girl." not in a cool or fun way, but in that she's the type of girl the world doesn't respect. she's been told she's too fragile and emotional, both too much and not enough, with her violent mood swings, desperate attention seeking, and textbook case of daddy issues.
i guess part of why it's interesting is that it's a side of ena we see much less of nowadays. she also has a tendency to look angelic in all her trained cards, going back since the start of the game. infinitely gray, the event is her having a mental breakdown, the card is her smiling softly showered in sunlight. the game decidedly never portrays her the way society would likely portray a girl like her. it always shows her at her highest potential for resilience and kindness, while making clear that these are strengths which only exist in the context of her impulsivity and sensitivity. she may fit the style and stereotype of a "landmine," a girl who's dangerous to even be around, but in reality, she makes a positive impact on everyone she knows.

Nobody has an objective perspective of anyone, we build models of each other based on our limited perception as gathered through an interface, the means with which we’re able interact and communicate (like speech and body language), and we know that others build models of us based on their limited perception. We exist in others minds, fragments built of how we present ourselves to them, and they exist in us all the same. We become aware of becoming aware of each other, we see ourselves reflected in each other, tinted by perception. We exist as people because we see people seeing us.
Mizuki’s model of Rui has a model of Mizuki, her perception of his perception of her, and vice versa. Mizuki and Rui’s relationship was founded on being the only people willing to observe each other, the only people they can see themselves reflected in, proof they exist as people at all.
And in the present moment they keep very aware of managing how the other sees them, like any time Mizuki puts on a charade of being fine because she sees that Rui sees that she’s not fine, or Rui saying he messed up by staring at Mizuki long enough for her to notice and smother her downcast expression because she doesn’t want to worry him in his Picnic side story. They act on and mind how the other perceives them. They mind their model of the other’s model of them.

The operation to remove it was successful, but Mohammed, his sister, and the rest of their family are still trapped in Gaza, facing shooting and bombing that has already killed 10 other family members. This is the danger they live with constantly.
