updating the progress of the parallax video
trying a short animation of the work i did, Not entirely what i expected though.
i used after effect for this in case of any curiousity.
Misty Harbor. The forth piece of my imagination of a Martian Whitstable.
This time I am imagine a foggy kind of harbor, thus i needed 2 more different passes, Zdepth and LightSel. Zdepth help me to create depth and make the fog much more consistence while LightSel improve the lighting effect in the fog.
The Zdepth immediately come in to places. I basically inverted the Zdepth and put it on screen blending mode and did some masking afterward.
as usual i did the background first to make my eyes comfortable. i also tried to put another of the harbor building on the back but did not work out at the end.
next is the dog, i want this fog slowly appearing from the ocean and covering the background.
next i added some props as usual to make the composition better and start bringing the image into life.
and now the LightSel come into place, now u can see lighting coming off the building through the fog. I also added mog fog behind the building do create more depth in the composition.
Next is the ocean. As the reflection i did the past image, i inverted the image and overlay a part of ocean on top of it without colours.
Then i added more props on the front to really create a depth within the image.
Finally the megical CameraRaw did the final touch up and we are done.
This is the third piece of the project visualization. This time I am trying something different. I am imagine the habitat in a winter state. It shows a couple slowly walk down the park.
Here is the initial render of 3D of the park. It also act as the start of the visualization base.
This time i start with some general composition of the image. Try to imagine how it would looks like standing in the park.
Next i try to imagine where the lighting would come from and slightly brush over the light surfaces.
A good back ground is important for the composition. It tell much of a story of where it is located.
next i start fixing up the snow, it is quite hard on the first try to create snow, but after a few try with different brushes and overlay I gotten something I quite like about.
Next up its time to make the image alive, by adding some probs and human here and there.
Final touch up of the road. The reflection sure did helped the image a lot. I also added fogs around the image to make it feel much more *WINTER*.
Lastly I boot up the magical Camera Raw again to finish the grading.
Finishing up by adding a little bit more life to it. I think I am quite finish with the current image. It is time to move on to the next image.
For the process,
I start rendering a scene in 3Ds Max for a rough angle i wanted, and decided to do the rest in photoshop instead.
As well as some buildings that my groupmate has done for the project.
I first attempt to put a field and removing the sky from the view before putting in the building. This help me to know what the general angle is going to look like before i putting in the building.
next i put in the building but not touching any shading and lighting first.
next i try to set the scene with lighting so i know where the light is going to come from for this image.
filling in the background to create depth in the image is really important. It is what make it feel like an perspective.
Next i put up more lighting and create another layer in further front of the image to further enhance the image depth and composition.
next i proceed to touch up the lighting effect on the edge of the buildings and fence.
And finally putting in lives to make the whole scene happening and alive. But one more step to go.
I boot up camera raw plugin to make the scene’s colour much more in harmony. It is not needed as same settings can be done in photoshop alone but camera raw just make it so much more easier to do it. It just show how powerful it is as a tool.
Did a second piece, the lighting is much better on this one but it feel a little bit empty on the upper half. Would definitely look for way to improve it.
upgraded the picture to make it much more alive. I am planning to make a few more of these later on for the project
Today i was doing some visualization testing on the project, The image above shown the Martian Whitstable.
I started from Max, just modeling some basic component i needed for collages. As some famous visualizer said, Do it in Post.
Here is the rendered area I needed to do the post processing. What i basically do is just collage different part of Whitstable elements onto it.
The harder part was the beach as I cant find any perfect beach that resemble whitstable with this angle, so i have to assemble them together.
After that i do some filtering here and there and finish the first testing of the visualization of current project.
Doing some animation testing.
Well animation is definitely not my best but i got the video finish at last. Now all i need is upload it to the server for submission.
The group mates created some 3D render from sketch up for a walkthrough footage of the environment. We will need to get it into after effect to add some lives into it.
Final rush for the video, Just finish putting up the Audio. Next is to render and compress. The animation is not great as it is still pictures but i have tried my best on animating them.
After Effect problem
It seems that my after effect subscription is gone for some reason but the staff is good enough to help me on the issue. Hope this will not take too much time off me.
Final Review
The final review when well despite the final video is not finished yet, But we will push on to get the best result for the final submission on next week. Hopefully everything went well.
An outcome of the thesis result which listing all it needed for creating such grown habitat on Mars. At current time its seems it is way too expensive and time ocnsuming to create such project but as the time go on, the theory would get closer to reality.
Created a timeline of how the grown habitat should work through out the year. As the graph shown this double story building would probably take up a few ten years long which is extremely time consuming. This would be a gigantic downside of this theory
Did some plans with render. Turning out to be what i wanted. We decided to make a video instead of a big physical model due to the whole pandemic issue. But the thesis submission date is coming close so i wish to focus on the theory instead for now.
