A squib. They were really the opposite of himself which made them somewhat interesting. At her invitation he sat down next too her, though not too close with his arm on the back. “I am! My mother was not very fond of having a wizard for a son-” Elliott said, shifting slightly. “My father was much more accepting though. And so has my step mother and older sister! We haven’t told my step-siblings or younger siblings though. Probably best that way.” 

A slight wrinkle appeared between her brows. What did he mean when he said his mother wasn’t fond to have a wizard for a son. It relaxed slightly when he continued to say that the rest of his family were more accepting. “Why would it be best not to tell your other siblings?” She blurted out before blushing and looking down at her lap. “Forgive me, that was rude. I suppose I’m more ignorant of muggle ways than I thought. I suppose all families are complex.”

Wilder. he took note and hopefully he would remember the name of her son. Elliott scrunched his nose at the mention of her parents. He never understood why people had to be so stuck up about those sorts of things. She was obviously doing well for her and her son despite not marrying the father. So why did anything else matter? “Well it’s great that the Whitleys were so nice! Are they magic?” He asked curiously. He wondered if they were muggles and if she had told them about Hogwarts. How they’d taken it. It was a bad habit of his to know how muggles felt about wizards. “My parents are muggle.” He said in an attempt to explain why he’d asked the question. 

“Eudora was halfblood and Frank was a squib. That’s why things are run the muggle way around here.” Genie explained as she made her way to the couch. “Won’t you sit?” She offered as she sat down. Tucking her legs up under her she turned to face him. “Are you the only wizard in the family, then? How did your parents take your abilities?” She’d always been fascinated by her muggleborn peers. They slipped into the wizarding world so well. It hadn’t been as easy for  her to do the reverse.

He nodded, holding out the flowers to her before taking off his jacket. “Thanks.” Elliott smiled. He held onto his bag, mostly because he was nervous but also because the cards were in there and it made it easier to carry. “How long have you lived here?” 

Smiling, Genie took the flowers and gave them a sniff. They were beautiful, and smelled divine. She then took his coat and hung it up on the coat rack. She didn’t press when he didn’t hand over his bag. “Please make yourself at home. I’m just going to put these in some water.” She smiled and made her way over to her antique hutch, and found her favourite vase. “We’ve been here for almost 11 years. I moved in when I was pregnant with Wilder. Back then it was owned by this sweet elderly couple and I did work around the house and farm in exchange for room and board.” She filled placed the flowers in the vase and filled it with water before adding her a small powder that she’d invented to help prolong cut flowers and regrow their roots. She’d pot them when the roots had come in, and be able to enjoy them year round. “My parents didn’t like that I’d fallen pregnant while still in school - not to mention that I didn’t marry the father. So I had to find somewhere to live. The Whitleys were more family than my own parents, and they looked after Wilder once he was born and I had to go back to Hogwarts.” She explained as she made her way over to join him.

Watching her boys play in the snow of her alma mater, it was crazy to think that Wilder would be here next September. She was just glad to have them back. They’d been dropped off with no warning by their father’s new girlfriend late the night before. She hadn’t said anything, just floo’d them home and left. A note with a contact for one of her missing books had fallen to the floor as she left and, dishonest as it was, Genie had pocketed it. She was pulled out of her thoughts by someone approaching her. “Do you remember being that young and carefree?”

He was thankful for how cold it was as he could definitely blame that on how red his face got from her kissing his cheek. It’d certainly taken him by surprise. “Oh hello!” He said, still processing Elliott followed her inside, shaking out the little bit of snow that had gotten into his hair when it had begun to fall. “You’re place is amazing.” He told her as he begun to look around. It was much better then the little apartment he had. 

“Thank you.” Genie smiled, please that he’d complimented her home. “We’ve really tried to put a lot of love into this place. The previous owners put so much work into it, it would feel like I was dishonouring them if we didn’t do the same. Oh, you bought flowers!” She stopped by the coat closet. “Can I take your things? Then I’ll give you a quick tour.”

He was nervous standing outside her home. Making sure that he had his bag, that held his cards, and that the array of flowers he’d gotten looked alright. He knocked on the door. Elliott fixed his hair one last time. 

As the time ticked closer and closer to their date, Genie grew more and more nervous. She’d cleaned the house from top to bottom - though she was sure Elliott wouldn’t need to go into the bedrooms - and cleaned the living room, kitchen and guest bathroom twice - and they wouldn’t even be spending that much time indoors. She was just beginning to tidy the already tidy living room when there was a knock at the door. Taking a moment, Genie smoothed down the wool mini dress, that Cassie had helped her to find, she took a deep breath and made her way to the front door. “Hi.” She greeted him, leaning out to place a chaste kiss on his cheek. A snowflake hit her cheek, wetting it. “Oh, it’s snowing! Come in, quickly. I have the fire going.”

Molly was a little surprised that the other girl hadn’t heard. “Oh Uncle Harry’s used to it- it’s either that or constantly getting harassed by one of my cousins.” She laughed. “I actually bugged him to put me on your case as soon as I heard about it. It’s not the kind that usually crossed my desk or else I would have claimed it right away.” 

"I mean, I knew that he was going to put someone on duty, I just hadn’t expected it to be you - or anywhere other than Diagon Alley.” She might not be a Potter, but yet again, she had one of Auror Potter’s family members dragged into something. “Well I appreciate you on the case, but, really, Molly, it’s just a basic theft. I haven’t even had any other problems.”

The red head held out her hand, “I’m Lily Potter, pleasure to meet you. You’re Gene? Gen? Something like that- you’re friends with my best friend Cassie” She said with a slight smirk on her face. Lily grabbed the dress holding it in her free arm. She wasn’t going to take no for an answer. “Oh that’s so- rustic! But trust me, you’ll be happy you have this one nice dress when something comes up.” She perked up. “Like the Christmas in July party! It happens every year- though this will be out of season by then.” She huffed sadly. “That’s alright, you could still wear it then. It’s nice enough that I don’t think too many people will notice.”

“Genie,” She replied. “Tremblay; Uh, sort of, we’re cousins.” Of course, she should have recognised the redhead. It wasn’t like she was some nobody. What was with her inconveniencing Potters? “You’re not going to take no for an answer, are you?” She sighed, reaching out to touch the dress. “It’s so extravagant... I’d look ridiculous in it.” Genie added, more to herself than Lily.

“He really is,” Hugo booped Gene’s nose lightly, letting out a small laugh when the little boy looked at the both of them curiously as soon as he heard his name. “Oh, I’m all right. Bit busy with me brother’s bachelor party,” he mused and looked at Genie. “How about you? And the kids? Bet they’re 2 meters taller since the last time I saw them.”

She hugged the baby close. “That’s right, I’d heard he got engaged. That’s wonderful!” Truly it was. “Make sure you go easy on him, Hugo Weasley.” She laughed and shifted Gene so she was holding him a little more comfortably. “We’re all great. They’re currently having time with Evan. Wilder’s shot right up, he’s almost my height and he’s not even at Hogwarts yet. Ziggy’s growing like a weed, too. They’re both going to be taller than me. Why can’t they be this little forever?”

“Of course it’s vegan!” Sulli yelled out with a laugh as she entered her office. She grabbed her journal and few extra sketches she had already started making. When she walked back into the kitchen she found Genie almost done with the meal. “Here you go,” she slid the journal across the table. “That’s this season’s collection. So far.”

“You make vegan taste so good.” Genie laughed. She ate silently, enjoying the flavour of the meal. She looked up, finishing the bite in her mouth before pushing the plate aside so she could place the journal in front of her. She started flipping through, oohing and aahing over the designs until she got to a specific one. “Oh Sulli.” She breathed, running her fingers over the design. “This is stunning. You’ve outdone yourself.”

Elliott: A reindeer too? That's cool.

Elliott: do you know how to ride the horses? My dad took me when I was younger but I don't think I was very good at it.

Eugenie: She was a rescue. Her name's Olive (The other reindeer) 😂

Eugenie: I do, I love riding. I'd be happy to teach you sometime, if you'd like? I'll introduce you to Brandy - she's so sweet and patient, the perfect horse to learn on.

Elliott: Nothing really, just relaxing at home. Watching tv.

Elliott: How many animals do you have exactly? Or would an easier question be how many kinds of animals do you have?

Eugenie: Anything interesting?

Eugenie: Oh gosh... We have two cats, two dogs, two ducks, two geese, four horses, eight chickens, a rooster, six sheep, three pigs, a cow, and a reindeer. Well, and some days my 10 and 6 year olds are also included in that.

Eugenie: I'm well. Just got home, and all the animals are taken care of for the night. :) What are you doing?
