I want to finish this bit of 'important events of eunhae' to talk about why they are indeed special as I get the time these days. I don't really know if people can read this blog, but I just want any people who try to know about this ship can have a better idea with an analysis on a detailed manner.

3. Hawaii trip

Let me start a bit with a prologue - Donghae once said in an interview that he wanted to marry when he was 33 years old in Hawaii.

In 2018, Eunhyuk went to Hawaii with Donghae after the concerts had ended. This trip is extremely special to them. At this time, they both were 33 years old. Why? The story of them on this trip just never ends.

At first, only these two people went to Hawaii. That time there were fans seeing Eunhyuk at the airport and then Eunhyuk refused to take any photos with the fan. During the first few days, they literally disappeared from social media. No one knew where they were, or what they were doing. It was until someone saw them in Hawaii and uploaded their photo to the internet without their permission, that the Hawaii trip was discovered by fans. And then they had to call their friend to come over along with a filming team, eventually filming a vlog in Hawaii for the use of VCR in the future.

The story of Hawaii doesn't end here. The Hawaii photos were used continuously for them afterward. Firstly, in the shop of Donghae's family 'Haru and one day', there were a few photos of Hawaii. He once had a live showing them. One thing that is very special is that both that live and these photos are tuned in black and white. There are people who searched the name of that filter is called 'moon'. Well, if you know them well, Eunhyuk is often referred to as the moon (Dalnim), while Donghae is referred to as the sun (Haenim). To be very honest, people who love taking photos in Hawaii are due to its high colour saturation as the natural background. I cannot think of a better explanation rather than Eunhyuk for having a black-and-white 'moon' filter. (Sidetrack: there are people who searched over Donghae's instastories and posts and found out that most, if not all, of the black-and-white photos are related to Eunhyuk. )

Moreover, they are using photos of Hawaii for the D&E anniversary instagram posts as well. They are often quite sensitive to the word 'Hawaii' and it does seem to have a special meaning to them. The latest I can find is during 20220610 D&E show, when Donghae mentioned that he wanted to live in Hawaii for a month, and then Eunhyuk grinned much wider and said Hawaii.

(From my view, I think that having the two of them only to go on a trip is already quite special. First of all, what I would feel is that with any person who is not close enough to me, I would not wish to go on a trip with them. And then, considering that they just finished their concerts, like it is a world tour. While having a world tour, the two can already also travel as well in other places as most idols do. Also, no matter how close the two are, after long periods of staying together to work, they still wish to travel together. At first, they even intentionally tried to conceal this from fans. How I would view this is that the two solely want a private time, free from schedules and work, with just the two. They would not feel bored or too much with the presence of the other, especially traveling together can often have arguments easily. They just always want to stay together.

I know that there are many more speculations from fans from the interview I typed in the prologue. Hawaii is often a place for a honeymoon. They suspected that they may even have registered for marriage as Hawaii allows same-sex marriage. Well, I don't know. I cannot deny the possibility, but I cannot tell if this happens.)

4. D&E and the photo incident

I actually hesitated to put this as I do not really wish to mention the incident again so for the details of the incident I would just describe it as little as possible. However, when talking about the relationship of these two, I cannot leave this out.

If saying about the incidents before, during, and after the military is the turning point for their relationship to become more stable, the incident and D&E was how the relationship started to complicate and go beyond just friendship.

When talking about this, I may need to direct to earlier years first. By the very first group variety show, Eunhyuk was obviously uncomfortable with any sort of shipping. That time he said 'oh we are eunhae? ok it was just a nickname, nothing more.' It is not that they were not close in the early years, but Eunhyuk refused to make themselves to be shipped in front of the camera, while other members were actually having ships. They were still close behind the camera, by how they accompanied each other to the university starting ceremony, and also other interactions. At that time they were not a popular ship. And then a radio interview also in early years, when asked about Eunhyuk and Donghae, Eunhyuk expressed strongly that they are just colleagues. (VS in 2022 D&E show, when actually that time the broadcast meant to end and then Donghae read a question 'Are you two actually dating?' And then Eunhyuk answered with a grin 'Secret' and laughed with Donghae. And then Donghae said 'we are just male and male, nothing special' with a forced smile. And then Eunhyuk seemed to be looking (or actually staring) at the staff and answered with a serious expression 'this is a problem for us two. We will deal with it ourselves.' And then Donghae's eyesight was wandering. It sounded more like to me at first they are actually joking happily and then the staff seemed to want them to deny or state it clearly and then Donghae got nervous and Eunhyuk concluded like this. The whole time they were not meant to deny. And then lol the moment Donghae was on D&E show on his own and deny the relationship, I wanted to say that when Donghae is lying his facial expressions and body language are exceptionally different, by how his eyesight was wandering, excessive use of hand movements. Try to compare the clip that he tried to lie to other members in suju TV about how he went to Eunhyuk's home vs this clip. You would know what I am talking about. OK sorry to much sidetrack here but just want to give a contradiction on their attitude for the most recent one.)

Things start to get interesting when Eunhyuk decided to join SJ-M later. SJ-M actually formed by splitting all the intended ships (except Kangin x Leeteuk). Eunhyuk was the fixed member of a number of variety shows and was among the popular members in Korea, decided to join SJ-M, which is actually pretty interesting. We cannot know what happened behind them anyway and the real reason for him to join SJ-M.

And then D&E started with the concert performance of I wanna love you, which was meant to be the solo of Donghae, but Donghae just pulled Eunhyuk to perform with him. And then followed by their first official debut single Oppa oppa, which was again meant to be the solo of Donghae, but he again found Eunhyuk to be with him.

When that photo incident happened, Donghae actually immediately supported Eunhyuk on twitter with a few tweets. (Actually, throughout the time that Eunhyuk activity got suspended, someone did find Donghae posted something about someone being deceitful, but immediately deleted them afterward. Anyway no one knows all the things behind the screen.) The first time Eunhyuk came into the eyes of the public after the suspension was on Donghae's twitter, watching concerts together. And then on 1/1/2013, they went to watch the sunrise together and filmed the video which was used as the VCR in a later concert. They expressed the wish for having concerts together as D&E if possible and even said they would watch this video before they die. After that, you can see them watching the sunrise together every year on 1/1 (or I remembered 2/1 for one year), even when they were in the military. You can see their diffidence when talking about future schedules in the video.

That incident was actually almost a fatal hit to Eunhyuk, which later in One Fine Day, even not explicitly pointing out the incident, but indeed talked about time in the past few years he almost wanted to quit the industry. For how he tried to recover his career, apart from his own effort in his ways, one of the reasons is the success of D&E in Japan as well. Japan is a country quite receptive to BL, so their ship can somehow match this theme. And I really want to talk about how brave Donghae is to Eunhyuk. Let's think that in fact, SM wanted Donghae to do solo. Let's think of the risk of associating his career with a person getting a huge controversy. Let's think of how he continuously did not want to go solo, but only wanted to have activities with Eunhyuk as D&E. He must know how much risk he would bear, but he still tried to use all he could to save Eunhyuk's career as well. How much trust is needed to do this? Eunhyuk accepted this even though he refused to be shipped in earlier years. Actually, even in 2012, he was a bit more open with the ship by saying 'Eunhae is real' in a fanmeeting (yes. This is the origin for saying xxx is real for a ship). Hence, you can see them getting even more open with their skinships from this time in front of the audience. D&E being successful in Japan actually cemented the status of D&E as an unit and also helped Eunhyuk in recovering his career. Also, I believed much more happened behind the screen this time for their relationships. One thing that can notice is that you cannot sense forced skinships between them. Also, you would see very intimate actions between them, e.g. in One Fine Day, when Eunhyuk joked with Donghae, he just naturally kicked the position between the two legs, while Donghae did not have any sense of feeling uncomfortable after such intentional kick. (I can have a skinship episode by taking reference to another blog if possible)

All these developments along the way has eventually got to a point you could see before military, which I tried to decipher in my first blog.

Many people actually talked about that they kept denying any further relationships in front of the camera. As what I have mentioned in my first blog, they absolutely cannot admit it in front of the camera. Also, most of the time they got to say about 'we are only friends' in front of the camera are more of during the time that they needed to promote their new albums and songs, while the shows and reporters only seem want to use the popularity of their ship to make some fuss. Certainly they want people to focus on their music and stages, but not their relationships. It is the main reason they have to speak of it to shift the focus to their music.

Anyway, I am not them and I cannot be in their position to speak of their relationships. Again I can only raise points that I feel about their relationships is really special, at least more than most friendships I have ever experienced.

The way how Donghae stayed with Eunhyuk during his lowest point, supported and even tried to use himself to save Eunhyuk's career. The way how tried to stay close and did not want to let go of each other during the two years they were just Lee Donghae and Lee Hyukjae, but not the singer Donghae and Eunhyuk.

We all love this ship because we are appreciating the precious relationship between them. Instead of thinking of what sort of relationship between them, at least for me, I would just appreciate how they can support each other and view each other even more important than their own, regardless of the type of relationship they are. 'Don't worry. You two are special.' - Siwon to Eunhae in 2015. Indeed, they are just special as Eunhae.

Eunhae analysis - important events - part 1

Hello everyone it is the first post on my blog dedicated to Eunhae. The posts are gotta be quite long so I do not really mind if you are just skimming or skipping some parts. Some background is that I have been into kpop for like 7 years and have witnessed many cps of different groups as I am a multifandom. Yet, Eunhae this ship is giving me a completely different feeling. I am not them so I cannot say what sort of relationship they are in, it can be romance or even something more, but something I can sense is that they are surely having a special relationship, not just friendship.

The blog is intended from the stance of an Eunhae shipper so if you strongly deny this, you can just take it as a grain of salt.

For this blog, I want to use a few incidents to talk about why is Eunhae very special. I am trying to be impartial, tho due to my stances there may be some unintended biases. I will also try to separate out the more assumptive parts in brackets.

Having a common housing property

The incident started around 2009 when Eunhyuk said in the concert that he has a housing property with Donghae at Cheongdam. At that time it was a great fuss to an extent SM had to clarify that the housing is for investment only. However, in 2011, Donghae uploaded a tweet of a vacuum cleaner, saying that it was the machine to clean 'our home'. The manager replied by stating that it's good to buy this for our dorm as well, which has literally exposed that 'our home' is not their dorm.

(The fans at that time clearly examined the photos and found out that there are only obvious traces of Eunhyuk and Donghae. Afterward, the same housing background can be seen in some more photos, especially during Christmas. Most of the fans do not think that it is really a housing for investment but instead for their own use.

It was rumoured that they already sold the housing property, yet there are still continuous photos of this housing background coming out. You can search about it if interested.)

The most recent reference I can find for their common property is in the D&E 10th-anniversary documentary, the one with both of them appearing together to see their past releases. There is a scene where they both sat down in front of a desk to chat. Eunhyuk said about bringing something to OUR HOME (I can swear it is our, I hear wuli) to celebrate Christmas. And then Donghae replied with a very interesting expression and said Christmas? And then the camera gradually moved away and faded. (A sidetrack, 'Christmas' this word likely has special meaning to them, by seeing how they come out with 'Merry Christmas' at weird times very often, for example, a recent weird 'merry Christmas' reference is in the D&E comeback I forgot which video it exactly was, but Donghae came to find Eunhyuk during his MV filming. After Donghae left, Eunhyuk was being 'poetic' and made a poem, the last line was Merry Christmas. Come on...)

I don't know if you guys can understand how crazy it is to have a common housing property. Firstly, how much trust is it needed to share something expensive like this with each other? I mean, at least I have never heard of any sort of purely platonic friends would go to buy a housing property to share, especially in a developed Asian city with sky-high property prices. Besides, it is crazily hard to buy a flat together, except if you are a real couple. I am not using this to prove they are a real couple but I just wanna state that it is a big deal to get a flat with shareholders. Lastly, this one I actually got the information from my very close teacher, which if to an extent they are having a flat together, it is highly probable that they even would have each other's name in their will. It is the first reaction from my teacher who is currently married. I mean, in such a case, I really cannot tell if it is really just a normal friendship.

2. The actions before, during and after military enlistment

I don't know how many have carefully examined their changes before, during, and after enlistment. For me, this is the reason I can really feel they are very real. Let me try to go through it bit by bit.

If you tried to observe Eunhae behaviours closely, you would realise that they were unusually putting a distance during 2015. We do not know what was happening behind the screen, but at least in front of us, it did feel like this. There were a lot of complications that year with the enlistment of the two. Not just talking about the relationship changes between these two, but also about the uncertainties in the military (e.g. possible bullying inside the military for Korean idols), in their future career, etc. Also, they are both noticeably weirdly uncomfortable with some questions talking about their future family in the interviews, not only once. There was one I remember that Eunhyuk was talking about having a family and being a father, and then Donghae was noticeably miserable to an extent Eunhyuk was highly aware of it and had consequential changes in facial expressions (swallowing saliva, biting lips). To be honest, let's think of it. Why would you be uncomfortable with your friend getting married and having their own family? Even besties? At least I would not. At most I would just be worried about my bestie getting cheated on or gaslighted in a relationship. I mean, if you watch their behaviours and words closely, these certainly do not look normal at all.

One thing that is very special to them is during a suju concert before enlistment, which the hidden recordings of devil album were played without them knowing. The recording from Donghae goes as follows

'Eunhyuk ah. I have already thought of having a 2-member unit with you and also becoming members of Super Junior when I saw you for the first time in grade 7. Rather than 'like', I think 'love' is a better word to describe it. I love you, I love you, I really love you. I just a notification of a message with 'I love you'. I wish it is sent by you. ELF, (Eunhyuk) is mine!'

Let me also type Eunhyuk's reply before expressing my interpretation.

'Donghae ah. Recently as D&E concerts have ended, D&E schedules have also ended. The time that only we two are together has gone all of a sudden. Weirdly and embarrassingly, we didn't meet often afterward. The friend that always stuck together with me suddenly disappeared indeed made me quite uncomfortable. Even Kyuhyun said not long ago "hyung, actually, you are not that close with Donghae lah". I feel very shocked to hear him saying this. Is it that because we two are releasing albums and having concerts together, it looks like our relationships are too business-related? I even have thoughts like this. Hence, I get Donghae out to talk to each other a bit. Now, both you and I, cannot meet for a period of time. Please stay healthy. Ah oddeokae (seems don't know how to continue)'

Siwon said, 'Don't worry. You two are special.'

And then eventually Donghae got to reply in a bit of joking tone 'OK! I know! Thank you!'

(How I would interpret this incident is that they were keeping an unusual distance from each other this year to an extent that they are feeling uncomfortable. It may be due to a couple of reasons as I have stated, but also my personal guess would also be that they noticed they were relying too much on each other, and they know they cannot be with each other in the near future. Hence, they may put a distance from each other intentionally or unintentionally, both for them to try to get used to the state without the other and also for them to consider what sort of relationship are they having. I would feel that Donghae is on the insecure side, which he keeps trying to confirm with Eunhyuk in multiple situations, and here is no exception. For Eunhyuk, to be honest, he could just easily wing this off with his variety sense, but he didn't and answered with sincerity instead. I believe he knows that what he said right now would be taken seriously by Donghae after a sincere confession. Even Eunhyuk hasn't made up his mind completely, he chose to try to speak his mind sincerely on their own problem. After all, being serious and sincere, he felt uneasy to give back a confession. This may as well make Donghae dissatisfied with his reply. If you know Kyuhyun, he often makes joking remarks about these hyungs. Also, if you know Eunhyuk better as a person (he is an INTJ), he is often pretty rational and hence would not often take jokes seriously, yet when he felt shocking about a joke is pretty unusual. The explanation I can give as an INTJ as well is that he cares about this relationship a lot. The way that Siwon said you two are special may also have even more underneath meaning, yet here it may be too much of an assumption for me to talk about.)

Before they enlisted, Eunhyuk insisted to make a song with Donghae. The VCR was later played in super camp in 2016 after they enlisted. The song Winter Love was said to be dedicated to fans, yet they refused to release any digital upon multiple requests from fans. I mean, have you heard of any fan songs that didn't have digitals? How do you want fans to listen? Moreover, the stage design is definitely very special. There is a part in the VCR where they both were on the stage. On the side of Eunhyuk, there is a street light. The side of Donghae is the mirror image of that of Eunhyuk, except that there is no street light. There was an interview back in 2015 asking them about what they feel the other means to them. Eunhyuk said that he felt Donghae is like a mirror to him, revealing his strengths and weaknesses. Donghae said he felt Eunhyuk is like a street light to him, shining the road around 4-5m in front of him, but not like the sun. (Which, in my interpretation, means that Eunhyuk can stay close to him.)

(Another interpretation is the word 'bookmark' inside the lyrics. There is a live in suju TV that in the middle Heechul and Donghae exchanged their rooms. Heechul took Donghae's favourite book Romeo and Juliet (Donghae has read this book for years) and the bookmark dropped out of the book. It is the polaroid of Eunhyuk and Donghae. I saw someone argue that this polaroid was taken after the military, yet I guess it may be possible that there was another Eunhae photo before this.)

(I don't know if it is me being delusional or what, the lyrics also do not really sound like to me, no matter the overall feeling from the first time I hear it as a non-Eunhae shipper or when I delve into the details. For example, the way how Eunhyuk emphasises he is leaving first. If it is a song from D&E to fans, it is not that necessary for them to emphasise who is leaving first, as it is just a 2-day difference. It makes more sense to me that when it is talking about we are leaving now as a whole to fans, isn't it? Such part of the lyrics makes sense only if it is talking about the relationship between the two people. Also, there are parts like 'conversation between the two of us' (two hmmm), 'keep our stories in the bookmark' (i personally do not feel it is so for fans, perhaps due to the influence of the bookmark suspected origin) 'my words of apology would make you cry' (erm wait why you need to apologise to fans for going into the military??? I guess it makes more sense if it is to Donghae considering the complications in relationships to them that time). Actually many fans are convinced that these lyrics are words they want to tell each other. )

Something I want to talk about is the release of digital of this song. I am actually getting annoyed when fans keep asking for digital after they have refused a few times. My personal feeling about this is that when it is about the stories of themselves, they do want that they are the only people who are having the digital. Also, they do not wish to commercialise the song of their own stories.

I always feel very sorry for Siwon. Siwon is also an 86liner and is definitely very close with them (the SHE trio). When these two got to separate, it was like the end of the world and then Siwon???? I can only say feel sorry for you Siwon...

During the enlistment, actually, they both talked about they met each other the most in the military. There were fans who caught them visiting each other just to meet each other after their work. They also tried to match their holidays. In the letters from their mums to them, none but only Eunhyuk/Donghae's name among the members can be seen. There was an incident during the holiday when they changed their profile pictures together. The action has caught the attention of many people and their comment sections were exploded. In such a situation, Donghae immediately changed back to the original pfp, while Eunhyuk stayed for a day. With reference to the personality of Eunhyuk, insisting under the media pressure for one day likely means that he expected this to happen, but he chose not to eschew it.

For the day Eunhyuk was released from the military, Donghae came without Eunhyuk knowing in advance. Donghae would be released 2 days later, yet he still came even though it was filming sj returns and he could not even speak during the filming due to his military status. Later reporters asked him why he came and he said cuz he missed Eunhyuk so he came. Also, at first, Donghae was standing far from Eunhyuk when Eunhyuk was out. And then Leeteuk pushed Donghae towards Eunhyuk as the first member to hug him. Yesung who was doing live the whole time, turn the camera towards the fans when they hugged. Donghae and Eunhyuk hugged really tightly, and they even walked a few steps together. Leeteuk is definitely a very wise leader. You can see him preventing them from doing too much skinship on broadcast before. Yet here, Leeteuk definitely knew it is of no use to give publicity for a member in the military enlistment, the reason he did so is likely he knew how much they missed each other. Yesung, who turned the camera towards the fans, likely wanted to give them the privacy they needed for a time of the two as Yesung was likely the closest camera to them.

For the day Donghae was released from the military, Eunhyuk came and Donghae made an ig live on their way back. I actually went to search for how the translation was in English and I realised there was a serious mistranslation in the most important sentence that Eunhyuk remarked. As a Chinese, there are Korean words that can be directly converted into the corresponding Chinese words, and here exactly all the words can be converted. Eunhyuk is NOT saying that Donghae will be a hard worker from now on. Instead, Eunhyuk is saying that 'from now on, I will always accompany by Donghae' (固定同行人 are the Chinese words. It is definitely NOT meaning hard worker!!!!)

(In my view from these two incidents, obviously you can see a change in the attitude of Eunhyuk before and after the military enlistment. I personally treated Winter Love as the preliminary answer of Eunhyuk to the 6 I-love-yous by Donghae. From the lyrics, you can see how diffident Eunhyuk is, yet he tried to promise that they will still be together. After getting released from the military, I guess he has made up his mind finally after the military enlistment. The final answer to the 6 I-love-yous would be how Eunhyuk made a promise to everyone that he will always accompany by Donghae, staying by his side. The time that they have separated surely made them know how much they need each other and what sort of relationships they are having. )

I want to say that, you cannot expect them to come out and tell everyone 'we are a couple'. This would be detrimental to their career and even affect suju. The way how the Knetz reacts to the apartment they got and the profile picture incident can know no matter how much Knetz sound to support LGBTQ, it is not acceptable for the idols. I can already say that they are doing it courageously by hinting between words and songs (not only Winter Love, but there are other songs certainly Donghae wrote about them two). The best situation is to make this a 'secret' between fans and them.

I am not in a position to judge their relationships professionally, but I can analyse and tell there are parts of their relationships that do not seem like purely friends. You can feel free to disagree with me, yet these are some of my honest thoughts.

I can still have a few more incidents to go if this blog is well-received (such as the famous Hawaii trip etc).
