Danish sociologist on her white inferiority

Ulla Holm (pictured above) is a Danish sociologist. In an op-ed titled “Sort overherredømme” (“Black Supremacy”) she writes about her own feelings of white bodily inferiority:

Here in Paris I feel the white bodily inferiority on my own body … when I meet for outdoor fitness with my trainer with roots in Congo DRC. Philippe is double French champion in fitness, looks like one of the warriors from Black Panther, and dances to the afro-beats of the boombox as he’s doing a countdown on my squats.

I can live with the humiliation as long as I am to only one attending practice, but there is cold air between us women when we are more than one at the same session. Especially Philippe’s younger female fitness clients are vying for a temporary spot on his Instagram account, which mainly consists of fitness and dance videos with Philippe in the center, topless in front of the Eiffel Tower or the Arc de Triomphe, but sometimes he lets one of his white clients be an extra in his Insta body show. I am not to proud to admit that I like taking pictures of his big, Black flexing muscles.

The other day I shared his profile with a French friend who answered:

“Sometimes I think that it’s the Blacks who are the superior race.”

As a white person in the Western hemisphere today, you are undoubtedly living a very privileged life, and because this has always been the case for you and your immediate ancestors, you may feel like it’s a normal or even natural state of affairs. White people on top–that’s just the order of things, right? But why is it the order of things? For most of its history, northern Europe was a total dump, ravished by famine, plague, violence and general instability. So why are you living like royalty today compared to the rest of the world?

Coal. Your ancestors were lucky enough to figure out how to efficiently burn fossil fuels before everyone else and propelled themselves to the top largely based on that. What made whites great was literal coal-burning. All the elaborate explanations for white supremacy that came after that were only words meant to justify a state of affairs brought about by being good coal burners.

Today, everyone can burn coal. White supremacy’s unique advantage is gone, and though we are still wandering around the ruins of white supremacy, the ridiculousness of it becomes increasingly obvious to its beneficiaries. For allegedly being the master race, whites are remarkably unremarkable, and the socio-sexual consequences of this insight are impossible to overlook at this point.
