My sincere belief is that allowing men to 1. hold power, and 2. maintain significant numbers is an active disservice to all women.

Every other day a trans person will make a post about how they realized that even their most ardent allies are just playing along to be nice and don’t actually see them as their gender identity and all the comments will be other trans people agreeing because they’ve noticed it too but not a single one of them would ever waver on their stance that society and social analyses should be focused on gender identity rather than sex.

It really highlights how effectively “transwomen are women” is used as a thought terminating cliche. It doesn’t make logical sense to know that most trans people are not perceived as their gender identity and still insist that it is of the utmost importance as a sociological factor. But “transwomen are women.” They couldn’t even say “yes, transwomen are women but sex is clearly the social factor with the most influence,” because that’s not the point of TWAW. It really is meant to, and does, terminate any thought beyond those few words.
