I had to look this up, and actually, yes! Pasha likes to imitate people's words and gestures unconsciously, almost like a child, and he's really good at it... It's why he could integrate in groups and societies easily. He just does what everyone else is doing. He's very good at copying accents through observation, and can even do non-human sounds, like animal calls and gunshots...

They're kind of used to him being weird but he can be very off-putting to randos, yes. LMAO

Pasha seems to like America overall...but since he is a foreigner (a Russian nontheless) did he suffer at the beginning with any xenophobia? Did it affect him (emotionally)?

Oh, yes. 100%.

It's not just that he's a foreigner... He was born in a society that directly opposed America.

When he was born, it was right after WW2 had ended. With the Germans subdued, the two global superpowers became America (capitalism) and the Soviet Union (communism). If you were familiar with the American red scare propaganda, Russians had something similar happen with the Americans. They were in an all out 'proxy war' because it was too dangerous to engage each other directly, so they had to win over their populations and foreign interests with propaganda.

Before I made Lost Connections, I actually did a lot of research regarding the time period and what sleeper agents were actually like. One of them said that their KGB handlers made it seem like Americans were these ruthless monsters and to be wary about the conniving Jewish cabal. Pasha was indoctrinated with similar ideas by the KGB, and they assigned him New York, which is one of the places in the US with the biggest populations of Jews. Not only that, he got a job in the entertainment industry as a sound guy, so he met a lot of Jewish people in the job, lmaooo. Being around them changed his mind a lot on the individuals, and he actually really liked how warm and welcoming Americans were and made a lot of friends.

But, his contempt for the American government never really went away. This was exacerbated because, when he was in the US, even Americans in his circle were learning to resent their governments... He was there in the 70s when there was a cultural movement against the Vietnam war.

It's very funny when he woke up and a lot of younger American characters actually agree with him when, in his time period, Americans used 'communist' almost as a slur, lol. Maybe an actual Soviet style society failed in practice, but he would prefer the government moved more in that direction just so his American friends can have housing, education and health care???

No! It's the opposite... He never, ever wanted to be outed! He never wanted Sparrow to know he was a killer. That's his real toxic trait. If he had his way, he would've played house with them for decades and have a house and kids, LOL. Just like an actual Soviet spy in America...

The 'test' only came because of the stressful situation that happened. You know now... Can you be trusted with it or not?

In Black's romance chart, it says that he's the type to fall in love at first sight. I figured it'd be the opposite. Does Black fall in love at first sight with MC? How does falling in love at first sight work with him?

Yes, he's been in love with MC! Personally, I always thought this was obvious, but I get feedback that people think he's aloof/distant, which is weird to me... He doesn't treat MC like he does anybody else and is very lenient and protective of them. I guess people generally just don't understand his personality?

He doesn't really act on his feelings and pushes them down as much as possible because he thinks crushing on someone is perverse, and also that he doesn't deserve love and care. He wants to be independent and free from human connections.
