“Hey. Nice shirt. I mean that, too, I’m not bein’ sarcastic.”
“This old thing? Thanks.”
“You look nice yourself.”
micah-931:
“Trust me, I get it. I can’t wait for this to all be over with.”
“Is that gonna happen you think?”
Where To Begin || Jason & [open]
jason-aker:
“Oh, you know- just trying to figure out how to be single again.” Jason shrugged with a joking smile as they stepped out onto the porch. He sat down, feeling a little pathetic even though he knew that Evan was unlikely to judge him. “I’ve been in long term relationships back to back for the past… nine years? It’s been awhile.”
“Oh wow, you mean you guys are really done?” Evan asked, stopping in his tracks for a moment. For some reason he never actually expected married couples to really break up for good. “I mean - you’re saying I can hit on you freely without being a homewrecker?” he added quickly, wanting to lighten up the mood as quickly as he had darkened it.
micah-931:
“That you didn’t have before?”
“Maybe, I guess. I mean...I don’t know. It’s tough these days to...care.”
Where To Begin || Jason & [open]
jason-aker:
“Yeah, smoking is so cool.” Jason laughed, grinning as he tossed a bottle of water towards Evan. He grabbed one for himself and unscrewed the cap, laughing again as Evan winked at him. He never took the guy seriously, oblivious that Evan actually like-liked him.
“C’mon.” He grabbed the jar and a lighter out of the drawer, nodding for Evan to follow him out onto his small porch.
Evan nodded as he followed Jason, glad that he had the time to hang out for a while. He was already dreading going home, and vaguely wondered how long Jason would let him stay here if he kept him supplied in “gifts”.
“So what’s going on with you?” he asked casually.
tristanwhitton:
“Not.. Really, no. Are you from around here?”
“Yeah. Been here a while. Where you from?”
Where To Begin || Jason & [open]
jason-aker:
“Not much.” Jason admitted, opening the refrigerator door. “I got water and some orange soda.” He didn’t want to tell Evan that he’d been trying to stay sober, doubting that the guy would be very impressed. Knowing Evan he simply wouldn’t know what to say. “I got snacks though. Or we could just go smoke some of that.” He nodded towards the jar that Evan had so kindly brought him.
“Water is cool.” Evan said, assuming Jason simply hadn’t gone grocery shopping yet. “Snacks are cool. Smoking is cool.” he added with a shrug. “You know I’m down for anything you want to do.” he added with a suggestive wink, realizing that half of the reason he had wanted to come over here was to lighten his own mood by flirting with someone he knew he had no chance of getting.
tristanwhitton:
“Have you considered growing something that is not a weed? Vegetables seem more useful.”
“You might be surprised. Hey, are you...from around here?”
Where To Begin || Jason & [open]
jason-aker:
Jason felt bad for Evan, often getting the feeling that, outside of the guy’s cool exterior, life was hard for him. “I get that.” He assured him, heading for the kitchen. He set the jar on his kitchen counter and stepped over to the refrigerator. “Thanks man. You want something to drink?” He asked, opening the fridge and glancing back at Evan.
“Sure. What you got?” Evan asked, looking around the kitchen as he spoke. He sort of envied Jason the apartment, but he knew he would be awful at living alone like this.
“Perhaps you could grow your weeds in a garden, rather than a den.”
“Well, not everyone appreciates my...weeds as much as I do.”
Where To Begin || Jason & [open]
jason-aker:
Jason’s face broke into a grin when he saw Evan standing there on his doorstep. He laughed as he took the jar from him, thinking this had to be the best housewarming gift he had gotten so far. “This is awesome. Thanks man.” He stepped back and waved for Evan to come inside, letting the door shut behind them. “How’ve you been man? I figured you’d gotten eaten by a demon or something. You disappeared.”
Evan was glad to be invited inside, a small part of him having feared that Jason wouldn’t be happy to see him.
“Yeah sorry I’ve been off the grid for a while, I don’t do great with change so when the town got cut off from everything I...decided to check out for a while.” he explained vaguely, looking down at his hands for a moment. “How are you? This place is baller.” he added, changing the subject as swiftly as he could.
Where To Begin || Jason & [open]
jason-aker:
Jason had officially moved into his own place, this being possibly the most important move of his adult life since he had moved out of his parents house after graduating high school. It wasn’t easy but once it was finally done it felt good. He had his own apartment and enough furniture to get by on, having gotten a few things from his house to fill it in. It was small but it was his, and that was what was important to him at the moment. He didn’t have to share this space with anyone. No Justin. No romantic entanglements. Nobody.
On top of all this he had gone stone cold sober, having no access to alcohol and making no attempt to restock. Sure, he had taken up smoking again (for the first time in seven years after quitting the habit that he’d had since he was in his teens). Despite even that he felt better than he had in a long time, actually feeling as though his life was coming together again. He felt like a weight had been lifted from his chest.
He heard a knock at his door and went to answer it, praying it wasn’t Justin as he opened the door.
Evan had heard through the grapevine that Jason had procured his own place, and he found that intriguing. He needed a reason to step outside of the house to brave the world these days, and the idea of being able to freely visit Jason gave him enough purpose for it. He smiled as Jason opened the door, holding out the small wrapped mason jar he had brought.
“Hey man, brought you an apartment-warming gift. Congrats.” Evan said cheerfully.
tristanwhitton:
“That sounds.. Not particularly pleasant.”
“Got any other ideas?”
ruby--bee:
“Three. And.. They didn’t. I don’t think they will.”
“Why not? Maybe I’m biased, but I like to put some faith in our police force.”
ruby--bee:
“Murder.”
“Jesus. You don’t mince words. How many? Did they...catch the murderer?”
micah-931:
“Why did you decide to come out of it?”
“Trying to have a general interest in humanity, I guess?”
tristanwhitton:
“I would rather not.”
“That bad, huh? Maybe I should crawl back into my weed den.”
