Eva & Carreau
LOCATION: Carreauâs Office CHARACTERS: Eva, Carreau, Clara (mentioned), & Evie (mentioned)
It had been a long night of work. When you worked in a club as popular as the Alastor, what else would it be? The night seemed to drag on and on as more and more people entered the club. Her shiftâs finally over, though, and now Eva can get the question that had been in her head ever since her fall from grace out.
She made her way over to Carreauâs office, not even bothering to knock on the door before opening it. Before coming any closer, she quietly shut the door behind her. âI know youâve already helped me out before, but Iâm going need you again.â She crossed her arms. âAm I doing this whole... demon thing right?â
Carreau had seen many an angel fall and many a demon die in his lifetime, but really, most of them were disposable. Utter wastes of space who shouldn't have been able to qualify for a spot at causing the evil they were meant for. He could name a few living ones too -- Clara, Evie, but of course, they were small fries too. It was always a staggering accomplishment to see an angel so accomplished like Evangeline fall down from purity and into the dark abyss that made up demon hood. He had no problem helping her adjust to learning everything she could now do, and maybe, he had admired her as well. Something like Eva didn't come along everyday.
So, when she strolled into his office, seemingly unsure and in need of guidance, he couldn't have been more delighted. Rising from his chair with a roaring laugh, he approached. "Demon thing. Oh, you young ones really do have the best phrasing." He shrugged, crossing his arms over his chest, "Why are you asking? You seem to be doing the demon thing right to be by having rebelled, but you tell me what's wrong."
Evaâs eyebrow raised at his laughter. Carreau wasnât one to be gentle or kindhearted (he was a demon after all) towards others, but to those struggling and willing to the get the job done she expected something else from him. âI just donât think Iâm doing it right. I donât even know what I should be doing,â Eva shrugged as well. It was a conscious decision to fall, and she had put a considerable amount of thought into it beforehand. But this didnât mean that she could still be struggling, however, as Eva had spent her whole life being good and tending to others needs. âI just donât want to let you or any of the other demons down. I donât want to be as worthless as Clara or Evie, and I need your help.â
Carreau leaned against his desk, visibly bored and annoyed with her overthinking as his eyes rolled back, head tilting to look away to tune her out until she would be done with whatever pathetic display this was. Did Adriel let this go on? How did they ever get through the day? Must be painfully boring and tedious. "Oh, darling, please don't tell me this is what you worry about all day." he finally exclaimed with a frustrated sigh out as he shot back up to face her, arms outstretching. When she mentioned Evie and Clara, another smaller chuckle with a shake of his head. "Both of those bitches choose not to do shit. I gave Evie a little talking to and Clara is goddamn lost cause, okay, Eva?" he explained. Then, he began to walk around her, eyes sweeping over her figure like a predator surveying it's prey. "Eva, really, you're telling me you look the way you do and you can't find out what to do? You should be tempting men into robbing banks and murdering their wives, or girls, whatever your thing is, sweetheart." he shrugged, finally coming back around to her front. "Promise and then break it. Hurt and torture. Seek out the white light and smother it. You getting it?"
âMhm,â Eva felt her voice lower and set her hands behind her back, âI understand perfectly.â The art of manipulation (and seduction) seemed easy enough, even she herself had fallen victim to it once before, and demons were naturally skilled when it came to charisma. And unlike Evie and Clara, Eva knew sheâd take his advice to heart. âThank you, Iâll keep that in mind,â the corners of her mouth turned up into a smile.Â
âYou know, you should probably do something different with that Clara. I donât even know how sheâs still here with us at this point,â she thought back to what he said as stepped closer to him. Eva can be painfully annoying and she fucking knows it, but itâs a legitimate shock to her that Carreau would be willing to give up on a fellow demon. âI tried to fire her up when we met. It seemed to work. I donât know what youâve done to her in your attempts, but Iâm willing to take Clara on for you.â She was almost certain sheâd be met with rejection as this would be, like Carreau had said, a âlost cause.â But Eva was willing to take the risks, and she knew that if she were successful itâd be doing all of them a favor. âWho knows? Maybe I can pretend I want to apologize, and take some of your advice to good use.â
"Really?" he questioned with skepticism, eyebrow cocking up. "You come all the way here to ask me how to be a demon and suddenly you get it all?" Carreau's head leaned to the side with curious skepticism as he spoke, albeit a little sarcastically towards her. No, he definitely did not believe that she completely understood it all, even after his words, but he would wait for her to answer before berating her into the truth. When she stepped painfully closer and offered to take on Clara, he was pleasantly surprised, licking over his lips as they turned up into a smirk while he considered the idea. After a moment, he shrugged, "You can try. Perhaps she's grown accustomed to me. Last time we spoke, she seemed like she wanted to help those conspiracy children, and that -- well, that obviously won't work for us." his arms then extended out, hands wrapping around Eva's shoulders. He leaned in close, "If you can do this right, things will be good for you." he smiled, but then violently pushed her away, "But, come to me again asking how what to do, they won't be. You're hot but that only works for so long before you're coasting."
âYou explained it quite well,â she scanned his face for any signs of disbelief. Eva knew full well that if she were to waste anyoneâs time that it wouldnât be with him of all people. âIâm sure Iâll get the hang of it quickly, unless you have anything else to say that you think would be useful.â
Eva didnât miss a beat when he pushed her away, as an angel she had to learn to expect the unexpected when it came to fighting demons. Carreau was her leader, and she didnât want to let him down. âTrust me,â Eva stood up taller, âIâll make sure to show her why she even became a demon in the first place.â She had a built-in expectation to be successful, and Eva canât help but admit that the whole situation would be cursory to Clara at first. The prospect of such a dignified angel falling was terrifying on its own, something that the angels never liked to discuss, and those that did fall were absolutely frightening. âI want to be worthy of your time. I wouldnât have come to you for help tonight if I didnât.â
Carreau had to concede to that -- he had nothing else of use to say to her about her performance. He was happy to instruct demons, to train them, but personal chats were not of his repertoire, or really, of interest. The demon shrugged, already done thinking about it as she began to speak more. He took in her words with a squint of his eyes, thinking over what she meant before nodding. "Then get on with it if you're so sure."
Eva grinned, happy to have earned his approval. She was excited to see what could become of Clara when she succeeded. She knew that they both had figured it was about time that Clara showed the world what she was truly made of. âPerfect,â she said as she turned to leave, only turning to look back at him before she stepped out the door, âThanks for your help.â
