She had asked, "What it?" he has said the second the words had slipped out of the other blondes mouth because several memorable "its" crossed his mind; leaving her with Thalia, letting Koi leave with Talen which led to their deaths, and him torturing Kita. "I dont get how he does it!" a brunette girl exclaimed as she swung a large sword. Her brown hair flowed down past her shoulders and just below her waist. Her face was small and round with pale skin that had sky blue eyes watching the world. Her name was Skylar, named after her eyes. But she's not who this short story is about, its about the girl she's talking to.
"Who, Jesset?" her friend, the blonde haired girl, asked as she sat from a bench watching her friend play with a sword. Her name was Maya and she looked like Skylar except she had blonde hair.
"The 71st Hunger Games isnt all about Jesset you know," Skylar started, walking towards Maya as she twirled the sword in her hand. "Im talking about Pike. The tall one from nine? Who's with the cannibal kid? You should know him, he did hurt Jesset and all.."
Maya rolled her eyes as Skylar talked about Jesset's rival like it was nothing. Skylar and Maya were bestfriends since 2nd grade. Even before Maya met Jesset. "Whatever." the blonde said, her hand going to the locket Jesset's mother gave her just before he went to the Capitol. Jesset didnt know that his mom gave Maya one, but she wanted to tell him somehow. Checking the time, Maya stood from the bench and told her friend, "We should go. They're gonna start broadcasting the games again.." and silently they went as they walked to the Justice Building to meet their families.
The girls wouldnt usually be watching the games at these certain times of the day, but since Jesset was part of the games they went.
Many people had already gathered infront of the Justice Building and most of them were simply the people who didnt have their own televisions at home. The Panem Anthem opened up the show and Maya impatiently waited to find out about Jesset's well being.
Barely paying attention to the parts that wouldnt threaten Jesset's life, Maya was relieved to find out Jesset hadnt been part of a fight recently. But her heart always cracked and hurted when she found Jesset was still with the other blonde tribute from district four. "Koi." she said under her breath as she gritted her teeth. Jealousy filled her every time the camera's would focus on the times Jesset and Koi were being cute together or when Claudius or Caesar commented about the probable new couple.
She watched, hurt, as the two watched the fishes in the pond they stayed near exchanging soft thoughts about them. Though seeing the two together brought Maya much pain, she began to feel scared when Thalia, Talen, and a boy she didnt recognize approach them.
Scared and worried, Maya watched with her eyebrows furrowed together as Talen threatened Jessets life. How Thalia accused him of taking someone elses girl, Koi. Maya had always hated Thalia, from how proud the girl was and how she thought she was better than everyone else. But now, she hated Thalia even more. Jesset and Koi were right to have left her the first night in the arena...
