After touching back after three months deployed, Jason decided to reach out to an old buddy of his. For some reason Buckley had been on his mind lately. Since Emma and Mikey were busy with school, he took a week and flew to LA and decided to surprise him. They kept in touch most via post cards, so Jason knew which fire house to go to. 

Arriving at the 118, he actually spots Buck pretty easily on top of one of the fire trucks as he cleaned it. He let out a whistle to draw the other’s attention, “Well aren’t you a sight for sore eyes. Be honest…how often do you get confused for a stripper?” 

Buck’s head popped up when he heard the whistle, looking around for a few seconds before he spotted where the noise and the voice that followed had come from. He laughed as he dropped the rag he was using the clean the truck, and moved to climb down. 

“You shut your mouth, Hayes,” he said, stepping up to Jason and wrapping his arms around him tightly. “Man, long time no see! And you’d be lucky to see me strip, you don’t fool me.”

Malia nodded, looking at him as he spoke. She wasn’t normally this forward, or brave, she was usually more introverted and didn’t talk to people but she wanted to talk to him, really talk to him but she wasn’t there just yet. So she picked up the phone again, looking at him before looking back down at the phone. 

‘So if you couldn’t do this, what would you do? To keep making a difference? Cause I don’t really… do anything, I guess. Or maybe a better question would be is.. how do you do all this without being scared? Cause I’m scared of everything, and I don’t know how you do it.’

Buck let out a quiet chuckle, shaking his head and leaning in closer to her. When he spoke again, it was in a much quieter voice. “Wanna know a secret? I get scared sometimes too,” he said, shrugging gently. “Not really for myself, though. For the rest of my team, for the people that need our help. It’s just... being able to do the things that need doing through the fear, you know?”

He went back to fidgeting with his water bottle, sticking his bottom lip out as he thought about it. “I think we can do things to make a different no matter what you actually do. It’s... about the little things. One person at a time, and all.”

Lydia could hardly believe that one of her students set her lab on fire. She had gone over the lab safety guidelines a million times before they ever started working on experiments. She’d only been teaching at UCLA for a couple months now that she was done with her Master’s and this was the absolute worse thing that could have happened. She should have figured that one of the hockey bros in her Intro to Chemistry lab would find a way to fuck it up. She’d focused on making sure all of her students got out and then that the gas to her lab was turned off, but unfortunately it had taken too long and now she was trapped. 

Lydia Martin would never admit to being panicked, but she was a little panicked. She was towards the back of the building and even with the fire department there (she could hear the sirens and faint calls in the hallways) she was beginning to feel a little trapped and a little light headed. She sucks in a surprised breath at the voice. “In here! Help me please!” she calls out. She starts to move away from the door. “I can’t get out, the door is stuck!” 

Buck kept calling out as he walked closer to the fire, stopping every few feet to listen for some signs that there was anyone still there. The closer he got to thick of the fire, the more he could feel something making the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. He stood still for a few seconds and heard a faint voice coming from a closed door just up ahead. 

“Cap, I have someone locked in here,” he called out, glancing back to make sure he was heard and there were some other firefighters moving his way. When he got confirmation, Buck moved towards the door and placed a gloved hand on it. “We’re here, help is on the way!” Buck yelled through the door. “Can you move away from the door? We need to bust it open!”

Jack took mental notes about everything Buck had to say. He was aware of the struggles some women and people of color still had to go through in their line of work, and already from a distance he could tell that Hen was someone who was strong. Jack caught sight of ‘Chimney’ and noted the odd little scar on his forehead, so he had to ask, “Okay two questions. One…he’s not really named Chimney right?” Though who was he to judge when his legal name was Jackal Pinetree McGarrett?, he thought to himself. “Two…is that also a birthmark?” 

Jack noticed how Buck’s smile got even wider as he talked about Eddie and his son. He wondered if there was something there? At the military thing, he perked up, “Oh? What branch, do you know?” 

“Oh, no,” Buck said, shaking his head with a bright grin. “Though I don’t know how that nickname came to be... I’m still waiting on the story myself. One day I’ll get them to cave and tell me,” Buck stated, with a small frown as he spared another glance at the rest of the team, though the smile never really left his face. “And that is not a birthmark. This is a birthmark,” he said, pointing at his eyebrow. “Chim’s is... Well, he got a rebar through through his head a few years ago, if you can believe that.”

Buck nodded again at the question, cocking his head towards Eddie. “He was an army medic. Got a medal and everything, Chris is super proud, you should see him talking about Eddie.”

She smiled shyly when he seemed willing to spend time with her, pulling up a chair to sit next to him. Typing on her phone wasn’t ideal but it was much more legible than her handwriting and she knew it was easier than anything else.

‘Maybe you should stop drinking coffee an hour or two before you get done? Maybe that could help? Or would that be worse? I don’t know, I don’t drink coffee.. or fight fires… cause I’m scared of fire? Long story, but, anyway… um… what make you wanna be a firefighter? Isn’t is scary?’

She slid the phone over before she kept ranting cause she was known to do that, especially when she was nervous and he made her very nervous.

Buck leaned back on his chair, finding it easier to relax now that he had a full stomach and had had some water. He still fidgeted with the bottle as he waited for her to type, but not in a nervous way, but only because he couldn’t really keep his hands still. 

“You know, that’s a good point,” he said, laughing at himself and shaking his head. “I have to see if I can actually get myself to stop.”

At the question, however, Buck stopped for a second, trying to figure out the best way to put it into words. “I... always wanted to help people. Wanted to make a difference, you know? And I, I found a way to do that with this.”

biting her bottom lip, abby relaxed into him. letting him take over. take control. feeling his mouth trail along her body with those soft kisses and was it ever doing wonders. it almost felt too good to be true. she almost wants to say she wished she had more bad days like this; if this is the kind of homecoming she's going to be getting. it would, in a sense, be worth it. "babe..."

Buck smiled against her skin, gently removing the glass of wine from her fingers and placing it on the coffee table, safely out of the way. He gently moved them both until she was lying on her back and Buck was settled between her legs, one hand grabbing her thigh and the other holding on to her hip. “I got you,” he repeated, leaning down to kiss her again as his hand slid up her leg until it reached the front of her pants.

those words, while she knew them to be true, still hit her rock hard. but in the good way. shivers ran up her spine as he continued to kiss along her skin. "good, because i really need to just forget today in total." abby knew what she was saying, was implying, she didn't care. she wanted to be lost. it had been that bad.

Buck smiled against her skin, keeping up with the kisses as he moved along her skin, all the way up her neck until he reached her cheek. He placed a light barely-there brush of his lips against her cheekbone. “I can help with that,” he whispered, before taking her lips again, one of his hands holding on to her waist while the other traveled up her back.

"we could always heat it back up later." yes, that was true. and honestly, she's fine with that. abby just wanted him here, next to her, holding her like this. calling her baby. sliding herself into his lap, she settles there and closes her eyes. "forget the food, i just want you."

Buck had his arms wrapped firmly around her, hands pressed against her back as he leaned back on the couch and brought her with. “You have me,” he replied with a smile. “I’m all yours,” Buck added, leaning to brush a kiss against her shoulder a little up to her where it met her neck, humming quietly under his breath.

abby had to let out a breath of a laugh, because she didn't want to go anywhere. there was no force on this earth. watching as he removed himself to get the food, she exhales and takes a few sips of the wine. which seemed to mellow her out even more. she would wait, patiently, for him to come back. though to be honest, she really just wanted his arms back around her and the food could wait until later.

Buck went as far as to get the take out bags to the table, before he went back to the living room. He told himself he just needed to get Abby so they could eat, but she was all settled on the couch, looking so comfortable and inviting that he just dropped down next to her again, his arm around her shoulder as he pulled her close again. “Food is gonna get cold, baby.”

abby was panning on kissing him anyway, so this worked out in her favor. fingers curl into his shoulders, she kissed him back. sighing softly, before smiling slowly and echoing the greeting. "hi," it's then of course, when she's comfortable and doesn't want to move, that the doorbell chimes, alerting them to the delivery of food that they'd been waiting on. he can literally feel her body slump, because she doesn't want him to get up.

Buck was just about to settle some more when the doorbell sounded. He rolled his eyes briefly and groaned under his breath, but still smiled at her. He leaned again to kiss her forehead loudly, before untangling his arms from around her. “I’ll be right back, don’t move,” he said, padding barefoot to the front door to get their dinner.

he felt so good. he smelled so good. he was here. her worries and stress were withering away. it was like nothing else mattered. even if she knew it was fleeting, she would relish in the moment. her arms curl around him and she happily remains huddled against him for the time being. it's amazing how much the littlest things can help in the hardest of times. "hey," she finally breathes out, tucking her glasses aside, looking at him. "come here."

Buck has his other hand running up and down her back and he could feel as she relaxed more and more, a little ball of pride bursting inside of him at the part he played in it. 

“I’m here,” he said quietly, even as he leaned in more. Buck nuzzled his nose against hers gently, before taking her lips and kissing her slowly. “Hi,” he muttered into the kiss.
