sage can’t help but chuckle at the sight before him. he’s walking up to storefront, watching a girl pull at the door so hard she might yank her arm off. once he realizes who it is, sage’s laughter intensifies. “evie you’ve been here a million times,” he says, words soaked in disbelief. “here, just stop pulling for a second.” sage reaches an arm out to push the door for her, a self-satisfied smile coming to rest on his lips.
the sound of the familiar voice behind her had a smile instantly coming to her face, but then the realization hit that she was being absolutely ridiculous set in and she couldn’t help but feel stupid as she watched the other push the door open. she laughed softly though, shaking her head. “oh god, i can’t believe i really did that.” the girl mused, hoping to bring herself out of the embarrassment. “yeah, you’d think that the amount of times i’ve been here would help me, but apparently i’m not the brightest tool in the sandbox.” she noted, scrunching her nose at the other as she walked through the doorway.
With her busy schedule, and her brain usually running on fumes, pulling push doors was something the brunette had gotten frighteningly use to. But even still, she knew it could be embarrassing when someone pointed out, so she hated being the one to tell someone what they were doing. So when she walked down the sidewalk, backpack hung over one shoulder as she made her way back from class, she felt for the other woman she came across. “Um hey uh. I see you’re currently channeling me with the door, so I think if you push you might find that works a little better. Though if that doesn’t work, I’ll help you lift from the bottom.” She spoke, tone slightly teasing in the last part, trying to lighten the mood a little.
evie would like to say her mind was just cluttered with work, or perhaps it was just a long day of dealing with kids, but in reality it was just a quirk about herself. she was very absent minded at times, and this was definitely one of those times. so when the other offered the suggestion, the blonde could feel her face begin to heat up. “oh shit.” she said softly, as she gently pushed on the door and it began to open. she left out a small laugh at her joke, nodding her head. “well, it’s a good thing it did work because with my luck, if it hadn’t, it probably would have been the last option of pulling it from the top and then i would have roped you into this mess.” she said, matching the other’s tone with a smile on her lips.
“Babe,” Hayden called - unsure if the other heard him or not. “Babe it says push - not pull.” The brunette pointed out the sign that was besides the door on the window facing the two of them. Hayden stepped around the other a little and pushed the door open for the two of them, using his back to make sure the door opened wide. He kept it open with his muscular frame and turned to look after the other. “It’s no big deal. I do it all the time,” the brunette confessed with a small chuckle.
evie could feel the blood rushing to her cheeks as she realized what she had done. a small laugh leaving her lips as she shook her head at herself. she smiled sheepishly at the other, scrunching her nose for a moment. “thanks.” she said softly, moving past him as she entered the store, before looking back at him. “well, it’s good to know that at least i’m not alone in my clumsy endeavors.” she chuckled, taking a somewhat deep breath after to compose herself. “so, do you always come around saving damsels in distress from wrongfully opening doors?” she asked, a smile on her lips.
Fenix fixed his snap back as he skateboarded along the street. He was planning on meeting up with some of his friends. However, they insisted on making Fenix get some things for the house. He approached the convenience store it was just an in and out situation. As he approached the door he watched the woman struggling with the one of the doors. Fenix could’ve stood behind her all day watching her struggle but he had places to be. He pushed open the door right next to it as he stared at her struggling. “It’s push.” He stated tugging the door inward to let her inside. “Fuckin’ hell.”
the sound of the other’s voice and words caught her off guard. her eyebrows knitted together in confusion, before she glanced down at the door, and sure enough it said push. a wave of embarrassment crossed her face, as she stood there for a moment realizing her mistake. she really must be out of it today, but in reality this was something she seemed to do a lot. “damnit.” she mumbled, before sheepishly entering the store. “haha, well at least you have a funny story to tell someone later.” she noted, trying to bring herself out of the embarrassment that she was now feeling with her feeble attempt at humor.
evie had just gotten out of practice, and she had over exerted herself once again for the girls. she didn’t mind it all too much, but her back was definitely in some pain at the moment. she had decided to stop by the pharmacy to pick up some aspirin as the girl had run out the day before. as she wrapped her hand around the handle, she pulled but the door didn’t budge. she furrowed her eyebrows before bracing herself and pulling harder, not seeing the push sign right in front of her face. “what the hell?” she said under her breath, pulling even harder with both hands on the handle now.
( haley lu richardson , cis woman , she/her ) i think i just saw EVANGELINE CONNER down by the shore. i know the TWENTY-SIX year old CHEER COACH/HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER has been in oceanview point for ALL HER LIFE , but they’re family nonetheless. i’ve noticed they’re pretty CONSIDERATE , but it’s rumored they’re a little STUBBORN. guess it makes sense after all they’re a ARIES. they always remind me of HOLDING ON AND LETTING GO - ROSS COPPERMAN and POLARIODS COVERING AN ENTIRE WALL IN HER ROOM, AN OLD CHEERLEADING UNIFORM HUNG IN HER CLOSET, THE SOUND OF A WHISTLE BEING BLOWN, & A SKATEBOARD RIDING DOWN THE ROAD. ( autumn , 24 , est , she/her. ). tw: death, drunk driving, car accident, depression, debilitating injury.
evangeline conner was the preachers daughter. growing up she went to church every sunday along with her mother, father, older sister, and little brother. exactly one year apart, every one of them. they had what seemed to be the perfect family. her sister was the genius who had all a’s, evie was the sporty one. shining in her gymnastics class from day one, and her little brother was the whimsical one. always singing and being a ray of sunshine for everyone around.
as she got older, evie began to like the edgier side of things. rock bands, skateboarding, and fantasy novels. the only reason she joined the cheerleading squad in middle school was to appease her parents. they kept telling her it would be great on college applications and such. so she joined, and somehow became the chill cheerleader. she hung out with the guys more than she did the other cheerleaders, so of course most of the girls began to label her out of jealousy.
she became notarized as the ‘slut’ from it all, but it never bothered her. of course she did the usual teenage stuff, like going to parties, and even started smoking weed. of course her parents never knew, and still don’t know to this day, but the girl never slept around. it wasn’t like she was a virgin, but she wasn’t sleeping with every guy around.
in fact, she fell in love. it was with the star football player, rolan. once they started dating, everyone knew that those two were soulmates. their junior year they made plans to go to the same school, ucla. they wanted to get out of the small town and get on to bigger better things. he wanted a career with football, and evie made plans to cheer him on as a cheerleader. it was a match made in heaven as her father use to say.
during their senior year, the two were both awarded scholarships to ucla. rolan with football, and evie with cheerleading. it seemed as if their dreams were coming true, and it was all perfect. graduation was just a few short weeks away, and as kids due, they went to a party to celebrate.
rolan wasn’t a drinker, mainly due to his own father’s problems, and evie wouldn’t drink if her was around, and perhaps if the two had indulged that night, they never would have gotten into the car that would change their lives forever.
you see, rolan was driving, and they were talking about their futures together, when a drunk classmate of theirs slammed into the side of their car. evie doesn’t remember much after that, aside from the sounds of sirens that surrounded her. the next thing she knew, she was waking up in the hospital with her parents by her bed, crying.
they informed her, that rolan died on impact, and that she had a broken femur as well as two herniates discs. the other driver had survived and was currently in jail waiting for his court hearing. the doctors told her that she was going to be in a wheelchair for some time, until she could heal her leg and back.
from this, she lost her scholarship, and even if she hadn’t, evie knew she’d never have gone without rolan there. but the girl still spiraled into a depression. it was hard for her. she had survivors guilt, along with the fact that her future didn’t have anything to show for it.
it wasn’t until a year later that she was able to walk on her own again, and even after she gained that ability back, she wasn’t fully herself. it wasn’t until she was twenty that her sister finally told her off.
she said that she needed to live her life again, if not for herself, but for rolan who no longer could. it was those words that finally had her realizing just exactly what she was wasting. so she started going to school online to get her degree to teach. she graduated when she was 22 and she got a job at the very high school she attended, and even started coaching the cheerleading team.
she had good days and bad days, whether it be her back hurting her, or something reminds her of rolan, but she gets through it. she’s taking life one step at a time.
