I just reread ‘A Perfect Holiday Special’ and it just gets better every time.

u guys did such an amazing job.

Thank you so much! It’s always such a joy to hear that people are revisiting older works. And I have to admit, it delights me a little to know a holiday fic is being read in the middle of spring. Trust @evebestt and I talked about a follow-up when she came to visit me. But as always, it just comes down to which idea ends up grabbing us enough to actually sit down and write it.

That said, a small tease: I’ll be soft-launching a new seasonal romcom fic soon. (hint: 🤧) It’ll be my first solo project in quite a while, and I’m very excited about it. New season upon us, and I’m going to be extra annoying about missing Rhaenys, and doing my part to keep her alive in our corner of the fandom. More gifs too, god willing.

It took me only two years and some months... If you ask me how many hours of acrove drawing/painting, I honestly do not know, except many. Too many. Deatils and close ups below the cut.

I started with a scrap paper and an idea to try something new, half of the time I genuinely had no freaking idea what I was doing, doing a watercolour portrait proved to be a lot harder than I anticipated and eventually I ended up using acrylic marker for finishing touches, like the texture on her face, highlights in her eyes and some loose hairs sticking out from the updo, but at the end I am quite pleased with the end result.

Paper is Hahnemuhle handmade watercolour paper, 100%, I used Sennelier honey-based watercolours and acrylic marker is uni's posca.

I might make another poat and let you in on a step by step process, until then, I hope you like this.

The Sandra Hüller train has hit me, and with her face put to Eva Stratt I couldn't help but write a little study for the character I've loved for years. I adore the book, but I gotta admit, Ryan and Sandra were so right for putting that secret third thing between their characters.

When you think back at Season 2, which aired last summer on HBO, what is the first thing that comes to mind? "It's probably the loss of my sparring partner, my confidante, Eve Best. I know it sounds silly because we're just acting, but it's the most wrenching thing that she will not be there to continue the journey with me and the rest of us." What was Eve Best's final day like on the set for you? "We had to reshoot a scene, the one when she's about to go and do that mission. And we didn't realize it was her last day, because everything's shot out of sequence. So we did that scene, and then the director, Alan Taylor, said, "OK, and that's Eve's last day." And we're like, "Oh my God, no!" There were tears on my part. I've been on record before saying that after the first day we ever shot together, I went home and said, "Thank God for Eve Best." When we first met, within about five or 10 minutes, we were hugging each other. In a business full of lovely, charismatic people, to have a connection like that with somebody is still a rarity. And so I'm very thankful that I got to work with her, and hopefully we'll work with her again."

The Hail Mary lands back on Earth carrying a middle school teacher and the alien microorganism that will save the world. Thousands of miles away, Eva Stratt watches her lead scientist kiss the ground on a grainy TV screen. Deep in prison with bruises littering her skin, she thinks it's all right that she'll die here, because humanity will persevere. Her job is done, so the rest of her life doesn't matter in the grand scheme. She deserves the hell she lives in. Ryland Grace disagrees.

#This scene is everything. Eva Stratt, with the weight of the entire world on her shoulders, sees Ryland Grace sitting alone, uncomfortable and out of place, isolated from everyone else and not really caring for the party, and she chooses this song FOR HIM. She is singing it for him. The moment she starts singing, is the first time he shows interest in what is happening around him, he pays attention because it’s her. Because he knows this is for him. From her. “Remember, everything will be alright”, “We can meet again somewhere, somewhere far away from here” and she is looking directly at him. “And that is enough” because she already said too much and it is not the time to get emotional or let the tears flow. They got work to do and the world to save. They spent so much time together during the preparation for this mission and she truly cares for him, and so she gives him this beautiful and genuine moment of support and love and hope… I think she loves him (whether it is romantic or platonic, is up to interpretation, but it doesn’t really matter) and she says it all in this scene. She cares so much but she still has to pack his bag with his favorite silly t-shirts, fox key chain, drawings from his students and earth hacky sack, supply the spaceship with his favorite coffee and send him to his death forever. Because Eva Stratt will do anything to save the world, including sacrificing the only person she truly connected with. She will make this hard and terrible choice and send him to his death because she believes in him, that he can finish what they started, even if it means that they will never see each other again, and they will never “meet again somewhere”, because he will be far away from here. He will never come back. But everything WILL be alright, because she made this choice, and Ryland Grace flew to the stars and became a hero she always knew he could be.
