“I do not like this.” She stated simply, sitting in a tree, staring down at her mother. Eveny was rarely afraid, but she did not enjoy the things that happened on the island, and it was very evident.
“Can you reach that? I can’t get a grip on it.”
“Yeah! I mean, I can try, but I’m really not that much taller than you.”
“Do you dear? I suppose I have had quite the break from it. I take it you’re bored?”
“I am very bored, yes, but I also haven’t seen you in a bit so I decided, why not come bug ya.”
@motherbirdie
“You know, auntie, I feel like I’m slacking in my bugging you.”
Augustus shoved his empty glass toward Eveny. “Get me a complicated drink. One that a stupid person couldn’t order.”
“I have a feeling that despite what drink I bring you, you will still deem me to be stupid.”
“No, I want another drink, are you stupid?”
“Well, I’m not the bartender, so you’ll have to take that up with them, as for being stupid, I don’t quite think I am.”
“Fuck you, give me another drink,” a very drunk Augustus yelled at the bartender. “You think I can’t hold my alcohol? I can drink a fucker like you under the table three times over.”
“My oh my, someone is very bitter. Wanna tell me the problem?”
“Merry Christmas, dear!”
“Merry Christmas to you too.”
“Well then. I accept your friendship request.” He winked at the girl and offered her a bow. Ah, there were too many blondes in his life.
Eveny couldn’t stop the small laugh the fell from her lips, “So formal, I feel as if we should celebrate with wine or ale.” She jested.
“It is honestly I can’t be behind any movement that I can’t jump in.”
“Really. Aye I don’t understand this time period much. Just everything moved so quickly.”
“Shorts as well, there was a young girl practically walking around in her undergarments!”
“Ah, well, at least we aren’t being chased with pitch forks.” She joked, no time period was perfect, it seemed.
“I suppose it is. And Miss Eva, are you volunteering?”
“I certainly could be.” She said with a smile, “I like to think I make a great friend.”
“Sometimes I wonder that to,it may sound cliché,but I do believe I was born in the wrong time,I feel out of place at times”
Eveny laughed for a bit at the girl’s comment, “Aye? I certainly wasn’t, but I woke up in another.” She said, laughing some more at her own joke. “Sorry, I’m Eveny, Eva for short, please ignore my poor joke.”
“Speaking as an ex-member of that community I would say this is true,” Ash smirked. “Eva, pretty. Suits you,” he said. “Well I would say that Ashley is a name from a forgotten language but it really isn’t and is now used mostly for girls,” he shrugged. “Hilarious when someone expects a girl then I walk in,” he told her.
“An ex member of the human community, or the disturbingly perverted one?” She teased lightly. “Why thank you.” She smiled, “I like it though, it’s different. Besides, if you go by Ash, it isn’t girly at all.”
“Aye, little one I’m not sure why. And everyone wears pants now. Everyone. It’s so odd.”
“Sometimes they even wear weirder things. on their heads.”
“I tried the pants movement.” She said with a shudder. “It was horrifyingly uncomfortable.”
“I saw a lady with feathers, the other day, sticking straight up from her head like a peacock!”
“Because the world is a strange strange place and Bukaki parties are the strangest things of them all. I like to think a lot of sexual repression is the root of it,” replied Ash to the blond girls question. “I am so sorry I did not catch your name. I’m Ash, short for Ashley. Yes my Dad was cruel when naming me,” he introduced.
“I like to think they have nothing better to do with their short lives.” She said, grimacing slightly, trying to rid the image of her mind. “Eveny, though I do go by Eva mostly. Though I suppose Eveny is a nickname too, my birth name is in an old language though, and not many pronounce it right.”
“I’m as confused as you are, some people just think of the most confusing things or stupid things, like putting shot glasses on their lips to make them bigger, are they trying to hurt themselves”
“Sometimes I wonder how they can get any worse, then I see things like that.” She said with a shudder.
