How to make Juggling Balls of rice & balloons
With these colourful juggling balls in their hands, kids are happier than ever before. Learn how to create them from the refugee kids in Mardin!
Have you heard of Sirkhane? It is a social circus school, created by Her Yerde Sanat (Turkey). It is located in Mardin, a small old town close to the Syrian border. The founders Pinar Demiral and Serdal Adam truly believe that the number of refugee children who live there, deserve an education, access to culture and art and to be able to learn and develop their skills and talents. Some of them even become teachers after being trained!
Nomadways is also deeply involved here. Our very own Anne creates projects with Sirkhane, prepares activities, trains children and runs workshops.
See these lovely kids? They are from Sirkhane and were having a lovely activity on how to create these colourful juggling balls from rice. Why not learn how to do it from them! What you need
Just before you start, make sure you have all of the tools needed to create those squishy little balls.
Scissors
Plastig bag for every ball
3 round balloons per ball
Uncooked Rice (½ cup per ball)
Make juggling balls step-by-step 1. Take 3 balloons and cut the neck carefully. You can use the necks for finger rings afterwards, to make even more colourful appearance. 2. Put a ½ cup of rice into a plastic bag and squeeze the air out of it. Then give it a good twist. 3. Stretch the balloon around the bag with the rice. Now, do it 2 more times with the rest two balloons you have for this ball. 4. Isn’t it super awesome?!! Try it out! Make as many as you need and play with them.
Video? Why not see how it works!
