Synopsis:

After Katniss Everdeen makes it through her final reaping, she is committed to staying staunch in her long-drawn assertions. Most pressingly, to never allow the kind of love that Panem exploits and destroys most. Unintentionally emboldening a certain, blond baker to finally approach her does make her pause, but not even his charms seem capable of completely breaking her resolve. Because nothing can...right?

Well, perhaps watching the president get assassinated on live television can get the ball rolling.

Here is the second fic impacted by the mandated deletion. Unlike “Kiss Cam,” it is still a work in progress and will most likely be much longer. There is a revolution aspect to it that will pose a challenge for me, but I am so excited to see what this becomes! Enjoy 🤙🏻

What is everybody’s favorite symbolism found in The Hunger Games Series?

This is always a question I love asking fellow fans. For me (and maybe this has already been discussed at length here), it has hands down got to be the Everlark kiddos. I love the fact that their mixed features visually symbolize the end of the Merchant/Seam divide in District 12, which of course is a microcosm of the dismantling of the games that their parents kick-started. The fact that Everlark is the inverse of Burdock and Asterid is also not lost on me, and I find even more symbolism there. Despite their similar merging, we know that they basically got one of each in Katniss and Prim and thus did not see the visual manifestation…yet. I believe this shows how even though there were concerted efforts to tear down these various systems/customs prior, sometimes it takes generations to bear the fruit. And lo and behold, their daughter and son-in-law did just that. I get emotional if I think about this too much, same with that damn pearl.

Had a response all typed out in response to someone arguing that Katniss chose Peeta because he was safe, and she was too traumatized and autistic to have romantic feelings. Rather than be an ass and blow up some stranger’s post, I’ll just comment here. And as I’ve said before when this suggestion was made, while we want to see ourselves in a character, the plain text does not support this argument.

The safe choice was Gale. Period. They had shared interests, shared backgrounds. Their families knew each other. She’d been hunting with him for 5 years. He was predictable. A marriage to him, at least before she became a victor, would have been a logical, obvious choice. But to read these books and still come away with the feeling that she wasn’t attracted to Peeta makes no sense. Who keeps tabs on someone you don’t talk to? Who takes notice of how someone’s hair falls in waves over his forehead, and the details of his eyelashes? I met my ex-husband in 2005 and I couldn’t tell you a thing about his lashes to this day. She calls him shiny. She calls him beautiful. She dreams about him. She keeps momentos from him. She describes the time in the cave as a happy time even as they were on the verge of death. She tells him she needs him and MAKES HIM STOP TALKING SO SHE CAN KEEP KISSING HIM. She is devastated when she believes he no longer loves her. Like, what?

The aroace implications are in the same category as Everthorne to me when it comes to these books. It is contraindicated by the text and the author herself. I have no opinion about her being autistic because that does not obviate the possibility that Katniss would be romantically attracted to someone even if she finds social interactions difficult. I find that take limiting and not borne out by what I see in real life as a disability rights lawyer. She loves that boy, in every sense of the word.

Name Change and Incoming Ao3 Re-Uploads

Hello and thank you to those who have followed me thus far, and shout out to @mandrake-mistakes for ushering me into this community so graciously! Just wanted to make sure you all know that I’ve officially changed my handle to “everlarksupremacy,” as you can see, to match my Ao3 account. Some of you may recognize my old Ao3 account name, “THGEncyclopedia,” but I had to change it for professional reasons. I am a teacher for a living, and a student at my school happened upon a TikTok comment of me advertising my works; furthermore, the school found out about it and asked me to take them down or risk termination. But with this new account name, I plan on re-uploading them this week. One is a completed fic, which I already embarrassingly had to re-upload once before, called “Kiss Cam,” and the other only had one chapter completed when I was instructed to take it down. That one was titled “Embracing Spring.” I will probably re-upload “Kiss Cam” on a weekly basis to build an audience back up, and then “Embracing Spring” will obviously have brand new updates at a to-be-determined pace.

The Good Kind of Peer Pressure

You may recall my username (brauneyboi19) from a plethora of TikTok comment sections, as I am all over the place defending The Hunger Games and specifically Everlark with every fiber of my being. Recently, one specific comment went viral because I guess I’m apparently some sort of rare species by being a straight male AND an Everlark fanatic, and that connected me with @mandrake-mistakes. Now, she has encouraged me to get a tumblr account to join where “the cool Everlark people hang out.” I am obviously still learning the ropes, but I am happy to be here!
