back to the fundamentals .✦ ݁˖
i want to take us back to the basics, so this is really for those who don't know how to begin applying the law. this is based off of neville goddard's lecture called "fundamentals," which is my favorite lecture to recommend to beginners who are just now learning about the law. this is just my interpretation of the lecture.
if it resonates with you, it resonates. if it doesn't, feel free to move on from this post.
There is a definite connection between what is outer and what is inner in man, and it is ever our inner states that attract our outer life. Therefore, the individual must always start with himself. It is one’s self that must be changed.
Man, in his blindness, is quite satisfied with himself, but heartily dislikes the circumstances and situations of his life. He feels this way, not knowing that the cause of his displeasure lies not in the condition nor the person with whom he is displeased, but in the very self he likes so much. Not realizing that “he surrounds himself with the true image of himself” and that “what he is, that only can he see,” he is shocked when he discovers that it has always been his own deceitfulness that made him suspicious of others.
Self-observation would reveal this deceitful one in all of us; and this one must be accepted before there can be any transformation of ourselves.
the first step is self-observation. i notice that not a lot of people talk about this step which i find to be the most crucial when it comes to understanding conscious creation? i feel that it is important to know who we are choosing to be first so that we can change our inner conversations about them.
so without doing any methods at all, notice who you are being for one day and write them down.
notice your mind -- what you repeatedly or habitually think about or imagine in your head. your thoughts and what you imagine on autopilot represent your beliefs, and they are the immediate result of what you have decided for yourself. what do you think about when you wake up? what do you think about as you fall asleep? where does your mind keep going back to?
notice your dreams. what do you dream about? are these dreams reoccurring? do you wake up from them in fear and in tears? these dreams also represent your beliefs and what you often dwell on in your mind.
regarding the physical reality, know that everything is feedback of who you are being. there are no coincidences, nothing is random. here are a few things you should definitely take note of...
notice your relationships. what type of people do you keep in your life? do you feel like you have to put more effort into those relationships? are they more important to you than your own self? the relationships you have show you where your self-concept is at.
notice your conversations with other people. what types of conversations do you have with your family and friends? are you agreeing with each other that, for example, all men are trash? that money is the root of all evil? the conversations you have on a daily basis reveal to you your beliefs.
notice the happenings. one thing to know is that everything is neutral by default. you are the only one putting meaning onto everything. without doing anything about them, notice what happens today and how you respond to them.
for example, you got on instagram and you saw that SP blocked you. okay, well, how did you feel about your SP? how did you perceive your SP before they blocked you? and more importantly, how did you react when you saw that the SP blocked you? remember, the physical reality is only a mirror of who you are choosing to be. it is not punishing you -- it is only giving you feedback on what is working for you and what isn't.
another example -- do you believe you have good luck or bad luck? what things happened today that made you believe that you have good luck? if you say you have bad luck, what happened that confirmed your belief that you have bad luck?
notice what you consume on social media. what do you think about the posts you consume, the tweets you retweeted? are those things true for you? what's your opinion of what's happening on the news? notice the reels that you liked and reposted too.
everything starts with you, consciousness. you get what you concentrate upon, and by observing your current state of being, you have a better understanding of what needs to be changed and why certain things haven't changed.
Having discovered, through an uncritical observation of your reactions to life, a self that must be changed, you must now formulate an aim. That is, you must define the one you would like to be instead of the one you truly are in secret. With this aim clearly defined, you must, throughout your conscious waking day, notice your every reaction in regard to this aim.
The reason for this is that everyone lives in a definite state of consciousness, which state of consciousness we have already described as the sum total of his reactions to life. Therefore, in defining an aim, you are defining a state of consciousness, which, like all states of consciousness, must have its reactions to life. For example: if a rumor or an idle remark could cause an anxious reaction in one person and no reaction in another, this is positive proof that the two people are living in two different states of consciousness.
the second step is to define your aim. it's pretty simple to see what it is you want now that you've done the first step.
whatever this aim is, it is done for you, by the way. it's already done. infinite probable realities, infinite versions of you exist in the only moment that is now. what we are seeing in the physical is only one out of infinite probable realities.
so for example, you are broke and in debt. your aim is to choose to be rich now. and there's already a version of you that exists that is rich. you can decide to be rich right now, and again... now is the only moment that exists. there's no "past" or "future," but now. and you can start being who you want to be right now.
This is where the third fundamental – Detachment – enters in.
before i continue the quote, no, detachment does NOT mean you have to let go of what you desire. that is a misconception.
what it actually means is to detach from your OLD state of being because it is no longer who you are. there's nothing to "fix" or to "change" about that old state because you are now who you have decided to be. you chose to have what you want and you chose to be who you wanted to be, so it doesn't matter anymore. if the old thoughts pop up, if the old circumstances pop up, forget trying to fix it because you are the only creator of your reality. forget trying to "reprogram" yourself because there's nothing to reprogram when you are who you say you are.
you have it now, you are it now. you know it is done no matter what.
Having discovered that everything is a state consciousness made visible and having defined that particular state which we want to make visible, we now set about the task of entering such a state, for we must move psychologically from where we are to where we desire to be.
The purpose of practicing detachment is to separate us from our present reactions to life and attach us to our aim in life. This inner separation must be developed by practice. At first we seem to have no power to separate ourselves from undesirable inner states, simply because we have always taken every mood, every reaction, as natural and have become identified with them. When we have no idea that our reactions are only states of consciousness from which it is possible to separate ourselves, we go round and round in the same circle of problems – not seeing them as inner states but as outer situations. We practice detachment, or inner separation, that we may escape from the circle of our habitual reactions to life. That is why we must formulate an aim and constantly notice ourselves in regard to that aim.
so what does this mean? for example, the thought of SP pops up in your mind as you go about your day. there it is! and having done the previous two steps, you know you are loved and cherished by that SP. in that moment, start thinking in your favor -- yes! you are in a beautiful, loving relationship with SP! SP luh me! it is already done! whatever works with you, whatever feels natural to you -- because the truth is that it is done and nothing can stop it.
it doesn't matter what goes on out here anymore. HELL, what goes on out here is up to your interpretation because again, everything is neutral BY DEFAULT. "bad" movement can be defined as good movement. "no" movement can be defined as good movement. you're the only one defining what's going on anyway. whatever path you get taken on, it'll lead you right to who you are choosing to be.
there is a lot of freedom in realizing that you are the only one that decides and that this reality is all yours. keep the three steps in mind when you start practicing the law.
