What do you think is it that haters are completely missing when they act as if Aleister were the worst character in the story, but glorify other characters that are literal murderers and super toxic?
Hello! Thank you for the ask! I will break up this response into two parts.
1. Why do a lot of people view Viscount Druitt as the worst character?
I believe this is largely due to misunderstanding/misinformation spread about him as a character. A lot of people in the fandom casually refer to him as either a rapist/pedophile.
This stems from the very first episode/chapter we are introduced to Aleister's character. He sees Ciel at his party, assumes he's a lady, and seduces 'her' in attempt to lure 'her' to his back room. He is aware Ciel was a minor. However his intent was to sell 'her' nothing more.
I've seen many fans say that he tried to/did rape Ciel while he was unconscious due to the sleeping gas. To that I have two things to say.
1. The alleged SA was never shown to us, or implied after we next see Ciel.
2. Do you think Sebastian would allow such a thing to happen to Ciel?
Now... Could he still be these things? Possibly.
But unless it shows us solid evidence in the manga canon, we cannot know for certain.
His official canon crime was human trafficking. Which he was arrested for, but bribed his way out of prison.
It's up to the viewer to decide how they wish to rank crimes in terms of morality.
Do I personally think that a human trafficker is worse than a mass murder? No.
However, crimes are crimes and I cannot condone him for his past actions as a human trafficker.
2. Why do people hate Viscount Druitt, while loving other characters who are more violent?
I've noticed that many fans in this fandom appear to be victims of SA, some who were as minors. A victim of SA is more likely to see what they presume to be a predator more threatening than a character who murders, because of their trauma.
To them, they see Aleister as a threat and wish harm on him, redirecting their hatred to their abusers onto him.
As for those who hate him who have no trauma from SA...
I feel like most who claim to hate him 'hate' him because many others do in the fandom because it's expected. Or they simply don't like his character and find him a nuisance (dislike and hate are not the same thing).
Hate is a very intense emotion and I feel like people use that term much more freely without truly understanding the weight behind it.
Therefore, I feel like most who claim to hate him merely dislike him, but just label it as 'hate'. If someone’s hatred for a fictional character becomes overwhelming or starts affecting how they treat others, it might be worth unpacking those emotions in a safe space, possibly even with a professional.
The Viscount of Druitt is written as a reflection of aristocratic corruption. He's flamboyant, vain and detached from morality. So part of the discomfort he provokes is intentional on Yana Toboso’s part.
