Sunny Side Up in a Pepper Bacon Avocado Sandwich on a Homemade Flatbread with Spicy Mayo
I'm pretty sure the first thing I ever cooked was a Bacon Egg and Cheese sandwich. I learned from my dad who basically had perfected the sandwich down to a science by the time I was 13. Im pretty sure that was the only thing he really ever cooked? Must of been all of those morning trips to McDonalds as a kid, ordering that Egg McMuffin which came with the perfectly circular fried egg. After making the sandwich for my friends every single time they slept over in 6th grade, I thought it was necessary to upgrade to the ring mold which I bought to replicate that perfect McDonalds fried egg. Last night, my friend Marc told me he had seen this technique on a food blog. Lets just say I was rather anxious to test it out... I enjoyed the metal ring mold, but an edible mold will always take the cake!
Chicken Bacon Ranch Sushi Roll (Panko Fried Chicken Strips with a Homemade Buttermilk Dill Ranch)
On Wednesday August 8th Josh and I will be appearing on "live from the couch" a local New York CBS talk show. I believe we're teaching the host how to make Sushi in our apartment so please tune in! I will most likely whip this sushi roll up live on tv!
Fiesta Quiche with Crumbled Goat Cheese and a Garden Picked Tomato
I cant really take credit for this dish. I spotted it in some food magazine I picked up in the market while waiting for the thunderstorm to pass last night. I knew I had the perfect tomatos in my garden to prepare this dish, so I gave it go! Added a little sautéed shallot, garlic, chili, and spinach to kick it up a notch. To tell you the truth, most of the creations I make are inspired from either something I see, or something I eat. It's very rare that I completely create a dish out for the blue! I find my inspiration and then tweak the dish with my own creative style.
Pulled Pork Tostada with a Mango Slaw and a Homemade Sweet Chili Hot Sauce
A few weeks back my brother and I celebrated a launch party for the new Hungry Youtube channel. We we're told to prepare a dish for the event but the catch was, we didn't have to cook it... The event was for around 600 people so they hired a catering team to prepare our dish. I sent them the recipe along with this picture as guidelines to create something I thought represented the Brothers Green pretty well!
A Chinese Feast
Being Jewish has meant that since I could chew solid food I have been eating Chinese food. I will always have a hankering for the flavors, textures and smells that Asian food have to offer. Today I wanted those flavors but I also wanted a meatiness that has been missing in my life. Spare ribs....Of course! Slow Roasted Spare Ribs smothered in a rich Asian BBQ sauce would satisfy my craving. No meal would be complete without sexy sides so I went with Balsamic Soy Mushrooms and Sauteed Broccoli Robe. This was a meal that any Jewish mother would be proud to serve her family.
Ratatouille
Just paying respect to one of my favorite movies of all time. I've been dreaming about this one for a while now... Thank you Pixar for Ratatouille and every other incredible movie you've made!
Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Oreo Whipped Butter Cream and Homemade Strawberry Jam
Not only are Ina Garten's Recipes delicious but she happens to be supper nice as well. Around the time I moved into New York, Mario Batalis Eataly was opening up. I was over in the area so I felt the need to check it out on its opening day. I happened to run into Ina outside while we were both trying to break into a door that wasn't really an entrance? We had a nice little conversation before she was bombarded by middle aged mothers upon our entrance into the market! The shock on their faces was surreal site to say the least. I quickly took off exploring the market while she dealt with all of those Barefoot Contessa Fans. This moist and fluffy chocolate cake comes from a Ina original!
Chicken and Waffles with a Homemade Maple Chili Hot Sauce and Ricotta Gravy
Here we go. The first time I ever ate chicken and waffles I was sitting outside of a pseudo hipster cafe and when the food came out and I started eating I overheard some of the other diners say "oh my god, jesus, is he really eating THAT for breakfast?" Yes, yes, I was, and it was delicious, sure maybe a bit overboard for breakfast, but for brunch it does just the right thing for your belly.
Roasted Balsamic Brussel Sprout Pizza with Crispy Prosciutto and a side of Homemade Pickles
A wise man once stated "There once was a good man. He said that if you can make pizza, you can make about anything in the kitchen..."
Well this pizza goes out to a longtime Everyday Appetite and YuNork fan who just created his own college bases cooking show called Mmm University. I stand by my words Scott!
Homemade Chipwich
I figured it was time I paid homage to one of my all time favorite snacks. Anyone who has one of these straight out of the dried ice cooler from the ice cream guy on the beach, im sure can relate to how I feel. There's nothing better then hanging out ocean side battling to take down your entire Chipwich before the sun takes it from you...
Beef Negimaki Two Ways
Negimaki Avocado Sushi and Grilled Negimaki Zucchini Wraps with Spicy Mayo and Wasabi Edamame Paste.
Many years back, my good friend Marc introduced me to a one of those life changing meals. We were eating at our local Japanese restaurant and Marc ordered Beef Negimaki. I had no idea what the hell he was ordering but when these beauties came to the table I was pretty amazed. Basically Beef Negimaki is thinly sliced cooked beef rolled with scallions and marinated in some sort of teriyaki sauce. Next time you go out for sushi, order this dish for your appetizer. Here's my play on it.
Mini Apple Pies with Ginger Butterscotch Caramel
I had a pretty fun few days as the standby chef on chopped this week. Unfortunately no one bailed out so I didn't make it on the show but I did meet a lot of awesome chefs! I also had a hilarious 6:00am run in with judge/chef Alex Guarnaschelli this morning, she seemed a bit out of it... Oh yeah, I also got one of those badass official chopped chef jackets! Well, I finally had some time today to make these little pies...
Maple Butter Soft Pretzels
The only thing I really have to say about these... they tasted a lot like Auntie Anne's...
"I hate that you put these pictures up and I sit at work staring but not eating..."
-Happy Birthday Foster Bell, your staring ends tonight!"
Macarons with Coconut Frosting and Raspberry Jam
So every once in a while my brother will make something that actually taste good... I cant take credit for these (just stacked them, made them look pretty and took a picture) but I can say everyone who was blessed with one of these pearls yesterday was definitely not sad...
I hadn't actually had a macaron before yesterday but apparently it's the new craze blowing up all over New York City. It turns out they're pretty easy to make! The cookie is a basic meringue mixture(with the addition of almond flour) that is baked for a crunchy exterior and gooey inside. So anyone who doesn't want to spend three dollars a piece on these things, you can hire Brothers Green and well put them on your menu!
Carrot Cake Doughnuts with a Walnut Cream Cheese Glaze
Yesterday my roommate Michelle showed me a sweet doughnut spot in Manhattan called the Doughnut Plant. The creative variety they had for sale blew me away! Not to mention they were incredibly moist and fluffy. The one doughnut they were sold out of was the Carrot Cake so I took matters into my own hands...
All American Burger. Bacon Cheddar Burger with Avocado and Maple BBQ Sauce on a Homemade Brioche Bun. Bacon Cheddar Cheese Fries too!
My sister and I made this beast earlier today after a sudden craving for a burger. We looked for that buttery brioche bun that you know see on most gourmet burgers. After failing to find it, she convinced me that I had to step up my game and make the rolls from scratch. Well worth it...
