Just some peaceful places around Indy....
HNF Bikepacking Spring 2015
Jess and I took a short trip down to French Lick , Indiana to stay at the famed West Baden Resort, an architectural wonder built back in 1903. I was happy to take Jess wherever she wanted to go for our little getaway, since she has been momming and working so hard lately, but I was even happier to find out that this resort had an on-site, legit mountain bike trail designed by Alex Stewart. So needless to say, I brought the bike and took an early morning trail ride. The trail was great, had some good climbs and some really fun descents. The highlight was coming over a hill and riding right upon a deer. She didn’t even run far, just about 50 yards away and turned back and stared at me until I rode away. Another cool part was getting startled by the group of about 10 huge turkeys who took off from the pine tree area of the loop. My only complaint is that I didn’t have time to ride the loop both ways, because I could tell the other direction must have been just as good. Sorry I didn’t take more photos, I forgot my camera and taking phone pictures just isn’t that fun.
Back at the end of March, I had a fun day ride with some friends on Sheltowee Trace, outside of London, KY. The Salt Creek Trail absolutely kicked my ass after riding the Laurel Lake Trail. Even after this ride, I am still searching for the best way to carry plenty of water without having to wear a camelback.
Figured I better add some pictures of bikes and stuff that I've taken over the last year or so.....
Okay, so I'm picking up my attempt at a blog once again. Maybe this will just become a dedicated online space for me bitching about various things and grievances electronically.
So lets start with the elephant in the room, and by room I mean the entire northern hemisphere of earth: this godforsaken weather. Riding in the snow is fun and all, but only for so long. After what seems like 100 straight days of weather under 10 degrees, I am longing for the warm sun and lush green that summer will bring. I have to admit, this morning is did not ride my bike to work like I usually do. I woke up early this morning unable to sleep and let the weatherman get into my head, and by the time I had to get up and get moving, there was no way I was going to bundle up and pedal my ass through the cold. So, since Jess wasn't planning on getting out today, I took the car and burned fossil fuel in order to provide myself comfort during my 20 minute drive downtown. Tomorrow I'll get back on the bike because I'll go crazy if I drive 2 days in a row.
Okay, I feel like its time to start a Blog. I feel like I am so fucking awesome and my life is so fucking interesting I just have to try to capture a bit of it here on the interwebz for you all to see, admire, and envy.
So I've been riding my bike pretty regularly over the past year. My new job allows for a shorter commute, and traveling by bicycle has always been something I've loved to do. Given my increased amount of riding, I get to see the city from a different perspective, and get to stop and enjoy a lot of the local sights and places more than I would driving a car.
For lack of better pictures, I've posted above a couple of pictures of my bike loaded up for a tour I am doing this weekend mostly along the Alabama coast. We'll be going about 300 miles in 5 days, stopping at a different campsite each night. Hopefully I'll get a lot of cool pics I can upload here.
The last picture is of my buddies Shane and Ivan, with whom I had the pleasure of jamming with last weekend at my other friend Ben's place. How lucky I feel to have some very talented fellows to get with and just make up music on the spot. It never gets old, ever.
