Here we are after a little bit more than a year, having compiled "all" "canon" "Izuna" "images". With some liberties taken. I've certainly enjoyed this and I hope you have as well!

I'd like to thank my mutuals only mildly interested in Izuna who tolerated all these blurry pngs every night, the Madara enjoyers, the Hashirama debaters, the Tobirama defenders, and all the other disreputable people in the Izuna tag. Mwah <3

Now unless they decide to bring back his eyes again in boruto (and if they do please tell me!!!!!) this blog will no longer be updated and left as is as an archive of sorts, mostly for me to look at, but for everyone else as well.

Another year, another outfit to die in! Happy birthday again Izuna!!!!!!

Like last year, I played with someone else's lines for these charming patterns, thank you so much Lena @elhnrt ! I had a ton of fun :D

My goal for this piece, in addition to playing with patterns and textures and adding some Naruto references, was to add as many death flags as possible.

The idea of having Izuna in a fireman's coat is obviously not from me. I've always like the idea of Uchihas in fire resistant clothes, and the opportunity for a thick texture alongside a reversible double pattern is very appealing. I used the image of the second reference as a base, with skulls on one side and stylized lightning patterns on the other (visible inside the sleeves and collar). Both were common immagery of firemen coats.

The actual skull pattern is taken from the third reference. I'd seen this one before and before even learning anything abt it it was too beautiful to pass up. Those white and navy gradients are absolutely delightful and I enjoyed using my gel pens for them very much.... This particular type of imagery with skulls and bones in a field is called Nozarashi, inspired by Buddhist representation of death and transience.

The lightning pattern itself is a reference to water and lightning dragons :) Like Tobirama's iconic jutsu, it's one of the hints of what's abt to happen to our little guy. The scabbard is also decorated with dragon motifs for the same reason.

The background pattern is taken from the first reference, another fireman's coat with an illustration of Raijin, the thunder god. He is often representated with drums decorated with tomoes. It works nicely as a standard looking sharingan illustration, with a reference to Tobirama's hiraishingiris with the thunder imagery, like the thunder patterns inside the coat.

If you're interested in this I recommend the book linked in the second reference! It is entirely about skeleton motifs in japanese clothing of the early 20th century.

Im begging. Every single panel wasn’t enough. We need an every Izuna frame from the anime too 😭 I miss him

Please believe me when I say I miss him too 😔😔😔 that said having to download all these naruto episodes and play them frame by frame seems like a complicated process, and doing it only in part by screenshotting just the key moments wouldn't satisfy me.... aside from seeing the rinnegan in color I don't think there would be much for me in this project I'm sorry : ( Like screenshotting every frame, even with halving the amount to account for the doubled frames is still 12 per seconds...that's more than 3000 images for just 5 minutes lol. I feel like a project like this would be more interesting if you kept the video aspect, by clipping every izuna scene and making like an "every scene where izuna is on screen" type of video. I'm not very proficient at video editing though and more importantly I don't enjoy it enough to do smth like that lol!

That said i mentioned once jokingly that if I ever learned paint on glass animation I would do the tobirama vs izuna fight scene so ! You can stick around and see if that gets done in the next couple of years, my hubris projects usually do lol. And I was sad not to have this scene in the manga!! I think it was great for izuna's character development (hubris)

Thank you! Yes of course no problem. It’s the 7th page of chapter 386, you can read the whole chapter here, which is the site I use for my screencaps currently. With the full panel available, it seems it’s a recipient of water with a cloth to cool down or clean Madara, presumably while Izuna or a medic takes care of him.
