Stanley Kubrick & Malcolm McDowell on the set of “A clockwork orange”
“The Kubrick Stare, sometimes referred to as the Kubrick Glare, is a common camera shot of an actor in most of Stanley Kubrick’s films. The Kubrick Glare has been called the “heavy-browed look of insanity”. It symbolizes that the character in question is either really, really pissed or really becoming deranged, and the person they’re looking at is really, really screwed. Other times—usually when combined with a smile—it means they’re feeling really, really clever. Either way, it’s really creepy and ominous.”
“What was sick in Rousseau was admired and imitated most.”
—F. Nietzsche, The Will to Power, §100 (excerpt).
“Christianity’s mortal enemies are power in character, spirit, and taste, classical happiness of noble levity and skepticism, the eccentric intemperance and cool self-sufficiency of the sage, and Greek refinement in gesture, word, and form.”
—F. Nietzsche, The Will to Power, §195 (edited excerpt).
When reason has failed to stop political madness, the hope is that at least good old inefficiency can.
