Mads Mikkelsen's Wife Hanne:' It's me who won Mads'
An interview with Hanne about Mads. Danish. Here is the translation:
Interviewer’s intro: ‘Much has happened since they met each other at the dancefloor 25 years ago. Actor Mads Mikkelsen is now a star worldwide: He has won the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, additionally, he has changed hairstyles and costumes countless times for all his different roles. Thankfully he has never replaced his wife Hanne.
Interviewer: 'Welcome Hanne Jacobsen. You were with Mads in Cannes when Thomas Vinterberg showed the movie 'Jagten’ (The hunt) but you weren’t with him some days ago when he won the golden palm. Where were you?’
Hanne: 'I was home in the kitchen, looking at the television, nearly dying from nervousness. I didn’t think he’d win it. I didn’t want to travel, and Viola (the daughter of Mads and Hanne) is studying for her final exams. That’s why i didn’t go with him. But then when his name was called and I saw how scared Mads was, I was thinking 'oh no I should have been with him!’
Interviewer 'That’s fantastic!… let’s go 25 years back in time. I said that you two met each other at the dancefloor. But how exactly did you meet each other?’
Hanne: 'We were both dancers in 1987. I met him at an audition. We were both in relationships at this time, but we fell in love. I looked at him and thought: he’s the man in my life’
Interviewer: 'And it has lasted 25 years. So much has happened in Mads’ career since then. As his wife, you’ve seen so many different sides of Mads. Let’s have a look at some of his different roles. I want to hear his wife’s reaction to this.

How did you feel about your husband coming home like this for many months?’
Hanne: 'I remember him calling home from the set saying: Hanne they cut my hair, I look a little weird. I remember thinking 'Well it can’t be that bad’ but then he came home and I saw it and burst out 'That Mads! you’ll be wearing a cap!’ and then he slept with the cap on for six weeks because I couldn’t look at that hair’
Interviewer: 'Let’s take a look at 'Pusher 1’ He wasn’t that famous back then. Do you remember this?“
Hanne: 'Yeah handsome guy! (said with a bit of irony ;-)) We lived in Hellerup at that time (high-class district of Copenhagen) He brought our little daughter to kindergarten, everyone stared at him, and I just tried to smile and be like 'He’s a good guy he really is’
Interviewer: ’hahah 'RESPECT’ was written at the back of his head. I heard the police stopped him really often?’
Hanne: 'Yes he was stopped by the police every second day. He had to show his ID because they thought he was a troublemaker from the city’
Interviewer: 'They should’ve known who they stopped back then. We also have a clip from Clash of the Titans. I remember watching this. He also went to Cannes back then and I remember thinking 'Well what’s he looking like!?’
Hanne: 'I think he’s hot there, I actually think he looks pretty handsome’
Interviewer: 'I’ve heard that you also really like him in James Bond as Le Chiffre’
Hanne: 'Yeah I think he’s hot as Le Chiffre, but maybe that’s just me..? compared to his role in the green butchers and Pusher!’
Interviewer: 'Which Mads do you prefer? there’re so many different roles’
Hanne: 'Well that’s a hard question. But Mads isn’t all these roles. I met him when he was 20 and I was 24, and I’m so proud of Mads. He’s so generous and a fantastic actor. I think I’m allowed to say this even though I live in this little country: I think he’s the best actor in the world. He’s the best dad and the best husband’
Interviewer: 'But Hanne, I guess it must be hard sometimes. He’s really famous now. Not just here, but all over the world, He’s a handsome guy, and people aren’t afraid to shout it out loud. Don’t you ever get jealous?’
Hanne: 'No. I think it’s lovely. I just straighten up and think 'Yeah that’s the man I scored. It makes me happy and proud. Better than if somebody said ’uurgh why did you choose him? He’s filthy’
Interviewer: 'He’s often far away from home, that comes with the job and the success. How do you deal with this?’
Hanne: 'Mads is away from home in periods. He might be gone for 3 months, and then home for 4. But when he’s home he really IS home. So I actually think that he’s more at home with me and the kids than many other fathers who work 8am to 4pm every day’
Interviewer: 'There must be many benefits also. You are with him for many of those exciting adventures. I’ve found a picture from the premiere of James bond in England where you got to meet queen Elisabeth. You were with him there?’
Hanne: 'Yes. We had to eat mints to prevent bad breath, we had to wash our hands and we were told not to talk to her. He should bow. I should curtsy. We practiced at the hotel. I was really excited. I’m good at making curtsies cause I used to be a dancer. I was so ready but when we finally got to meet the queen, I was placed right behind Mads, and I was told to look only at the floor or at the back of his head. I never got to curtsy for the queen. That wasn’t nice (said with a smile )
Interviewer: 'Well you still got closer to the queen than most of us ever will come. How much do you talk about his job at home?’
Hanne: 'Not very much. At home we’re just Hanne and Mads and Carl and Viola. But I’m still with him from the sideline when deciding which roles he’ll take. It has to fit in with our family life.
Interviewer: 'You quitted your own career as a choreographer 5 years ago. That was your choice. Why did you do that?’ Hanne: 'Well I looked at Mads after his success with 'Rejseholdet’ (Unit one) and I didn’t want to be the sulky wife who tells her husband to do the dishes when he comes home tired. So I decided to relax a little, and it has been fantastic. I love to be at home, and I don’t feel like I’ve been sacrificing my own career at all. I’ve had my time as a dancer, and it was a great time’
Interviewer: 'And you still look happy’ Hanne: 'I really am’
Interviewer: 'Mads Mikkelsen must be really happy that you’re his wife’
Hanne: 'Thank you, you’re so sweet’
