Dear Blairites

Let’s delve straight into what many consider to be the main cause of tension between the ‘factions’ of the Labour Party – Jeremy Corbyn. He has been noted as the main cause of tension due to the various ways in which groups within the party view and discuss him, with many Blairites and moderates seeing and dismissing him as an unwelcome blast from the past and equally many, if not more, from the left of the party seeing him as the new Messiah. It was clear even back when he was elected in September with nearly 60% of the party vote (Labour Party, 2015) that he was going to be a flash point within the party, namely due to the different approaches he took to the large issues in comparison to the other three candidates and how individuals such as Tony Blair said that having Corbyn elected would result in a “rout, possibly annihilation” (Guardian, 2015) for the party. Now, Blairites, this is where we need to openly say something. There is nothing you, or anyone within the party for that matter, can do about him. He’s been elected with an even bigger majority than Blair was in 1994 (Guardian, 2015) and that has to be respected. You can disagree with things he does and says, after all, it’s a free country, but I think it is somewhat polite to say that some of you haven’t taken this all too well. It’s all well and good criticising him and his leadership style, but that isn’t going to get us anywhere come 2020 is it? If anything, you’re just giving unwanted ammunition for the Tories and the already biased media to fire at us come the next general election. Now, that isn’t to say that I don’t want criticism, it wouldn’t be a democracy without it, and even I criticise him on various points, such as him announcing the Shadow Cabinet reshuffle on the same day as a very important policy announcement regarding the rail price increases. However, when I criticise him for that, I’m not doing it to damage the party, I’m doing it to highlight a mistake made by a still new leader.

Hello there!

So, it’s been a bit of a while since I posted here and I apologise for that, uni kinda happened so that’s why nothing really happened here.

Now though, I’ll be up and running. I do now have a “proper” blog but that won’t detract from this tumblr blog.

What will most likely happen is that I’ll post a section of the blog here with a link to the full blog at the bottom of the post.

A somewhat short description on why Jeremy Corbyn is doing well.

From a political point of view Jeremy Corbyn can be said to be doing well as he's seen as an alternative to the previous leadership of the Party, I.e. Yvette Cooper who had very strong ties with the Miliband set up (e.g being married to Ed Balls), and the Blairite faction, I.e. Andy Burnham who held various cabinet positions under Blair and Brown, but he is crucially more left wing than Liz Kendall. Also, he is seen to be seen much more personable than the other three, which has undoubtedly helped him garner large amounts of support. In terms of electability, one of the things he's being vindicated for not having by many a Blairite, I personally feel that he's the opposite of Miliband. Miliband was deemed “unelectable" because he was too distant from people, not “ordinary" enough. Corbyn is seen as the exact opposite, and I personally think that having someone like that lead a party that is meant to be for normal, working people is quite refreshing and why I think from a candidate point of view he is perfectly electable.
