Another thing I want to mention is that I’ve seen a lot of murmuring about the state of Hiveswap, and some worry that it’s “not happening anymore” because there haven’t been updates in a while, which is like, fair. So I wanted to take a bit of time here to emphasize to you guys that not only is Hiveswap still happening, but I KNOW it’s still happening because I’ve been doing some work on it myself, and I’m actually super stoked to show you guys more soon. Some more of your questions to the Hiveswap: Act 3 team over at What Pumpkin!

Q: Has the basic outline of the story remained since the launch of Act 1 & 2? Has it undergone major changes over the years? A: There’s a broad strokes outline followed since Act 1 that hasn't changed all that much.

Q: Will we see any more of Trizza Tethis? (Caroline) A: Unfortunately, yes.

Q: Will the characters we chose to come onto the train have a bigger role in the later story because of such? (12Cashmere) A: Not like, enormously bigger but yes, Chixie’s role changes significantly. There’s going to be a lot more carryover on choices like this from Act 2 to 4 and 3 to 4.

Q: Have there been any characters whose quirks were particularly difficult to figure out? (Alienoid) A: A guy named Garjon.

do you know if anyone's been able to find exactly what kind of instruments were used in Hiveswap's ost? there are a lot of funky little synths that i've been trying to recreate for weeks on end at this point (like the one in Snake Escape) in James' native DAW (reason, because they were made in there). i asked the guy himself and he said that someone managed to reconstruct them somewhere (???) but i've found nothing on that either

hm, i've never seen anything official, but that sounds like the sort of fan analysis project that wouldn't really end up on my radar. anyone else have any ideas?

no, and i didn't write the ones that exist. i didn't want there to be lyrics and was never on board with the idea.

yes. back when we were first working on hiveswap, even before the new york studio fiasco, andrew and i talked a lot about how he didn't want "official voices" for characters. there are a lot of reasons for this, but primarily keeping things open to personal interpretation.

so when he asked me to do an album of songs that were BY their band, this ruling presented a sort of weird challenge. they were just a drummer and a vocalist. how could i make this work? well, in the lore the band is very anti alternian establishment. dammek and by extention xefros were rebels against the empire. so, how come they weren't immediately culled for dissent?

one of the things i suggested stemmed from this original no voice ruling: what if xefros was such a shitty singer the auto-tune mic he used made his voice just sound like warbled nonsense? nobody could understand their lyrics and so all their anti-empire songs flew completely under the radar.

much much later, the old lead writer basically just wrote lyrics and named all the songs and did all that without any input from me.

hi! i was talking to someone who thinks he remembers a quote in act 2 about mind control having to do with chemicals. he says it was mentioned in the jade/teal car.
