just watched this movie and my brain immediately went to astrology so here we go, no spoilers beyond what the trailer already tells you but also maybe mild spoilers, you’ve been warned!!

Bear is the definition of a Venus-Neptune person and I will not be taking questions. the hopeless romantic who works in a music store, who’s been quietly devoted to the same person for years without doing anything about it, who makes a wish instead of having the conversation because the fantasy feels safer than the reality, that’s Venus conjunct Neptune in the 12th house energy if I’ve ever seen it. he loves in a way that’s more about the idea of the person than the actual person, which isn’t a character flaw so much as a Neptune problem, Neptune dissolves the boundary between what’s real and what you want to be real and you don’t always notice it’s happened.
I’d also give him a Cancer stellium, probably Sun and Moon both in Cancer, because the attachment style this man is running is deeply, fundamentally Cancerian, he clings to what he loves, shy and very manipulative too, denying himself and his flaws the entire movie until his very end, he doesn’t let go of people even when he probably should, and his version of desire is less about wanting and more about needing in a way he’d never admit out loud. Cancer placements love people like they’re afraid they’ll disappear, and Bear loves Nikki like she’s already halfway gone. also, personal take, I think he has a Venus-Moon square, cause he wanted to cheat on Nikki right after getting exactly what he wanted and wasn’t in love with the actual version of Nikki but what he thought she was..
his Libra rising explains the part where he makes a wish rather than making a move, Libra rising people will go to genuinely extraordinary lengths to avoid direct confrontation or rejection, they’d rather find a workaround, they’d rather the situation resolve itself through some external force, they’d rather, apparently, invoke a supernatural toy than simply say the words. the Libra rising charm is also real though, you understand why Nikki is his friend, you understand why people like him, the issue is just that he’s mistaken being liked for being seen.
Nikki before the wish is a Gemini Sun, Aquarius Moon person and I’m pretty confident about this. she’s warm but she keeps a specific kind of distance, she’s everyone’s friend in the way that means she belongs fully to no one, she moves through relationships with an ease that looks like freedom and is also maybe a little bit of armor. the Aquarius Moon is the part that keeps her slightly emotionally removed even when she’s being genuinely affectionate, she cares about people in a broad, humanitarian, slightly untethered way that can feel like intimacy but doesn’t quite land as the specific devoted closeness that a Cancer Sun like Bear is looking for.
Nikki after the wish is a completely different conversation and that’s what makes the movie so interesting from an astrology angle, because what the enchantment does is take her natural emotional architecture and completely override it, it replaces her Aquarius Moon detachment with something that has no detachment at all, that’s all fixed water energy, all Scorpio, all consume-or-be-consumed, all “if I can’t have you completely then the alternative is not something I can live with.” the horror of it is that it’s her, her face, her voice, but running on a completely different and completely unregulated emotional frequency.
which is genuinely one of the creepiest things a movie can do with a character and the astrology of it is that Scorpio energy at its most unhealed and uncontained is exactly that, it’s devotion that tips over into possession, it’s love that can’t distinguish between wanting someone and needing to own them, and the movie basically takes that archetype and makes it literal and then makes it a monster, which, honestly, fair.
the whole movie is essentially a Neptune square Pluto transit in human form. Bear’s Neptune illusion (she’ll love me if I just make the wish) summoning Nikki’s Pluto shadow (obsession, possession, destruction) and then Bear having to survive the consequences of a fantasy he manifested without understanding what he was actually asking for.
be careful what you wish for but also maybe just tell your crush you like them, the supernatural toy was never going to end well either way!
