For What It’s Worth: Evie and Theo

It was so nice to not be near people at the moment. To bask in the sun and flit around the grounds as Evie pleased. She liked not smiling until her cheeks ached, sometimes...but only sometimes it hurt to smile. But that was only sometimes, since she was usually to busy helping people to think about herself. So on the one day she had a free period, Evie let herself breathe, without the hassle of walls closing her in and students will ailments. It was...easier. Of course she wasn't completely doing nothing, Eve had knotted up the sides of her dress keeping the tails out of the reach of the dark lapping water. The hospital Wing had been running low on many things so Evie had taken it upon herself to go and collect most of it. Her current target was sitting in the silty edges of the Black Lake. Her sun tanned hands darted under the water cutting and grabbing at the Aquatic plants and stuffing them in a little basket she had dangling from her arm.

Evie’s eyes fluttered open landing on Theo with such a deep love it almost hurt. She wanted to speak, to ask what had happened and how long she had been out. But no sound came out as she groped for his hand. He shouldn’t have been there, he needed to be with other people. More important people, people who he needed to heal and care for. She was just a causality in this whole scheme of things. Maybe what made it worse was how amazingly blissful she was that he was here. His eyes settled her unease, making her sink further into her pillows. Finally her fingers found his and she raised his hand to press her lips to his wrist. "You have to leave. They need you."

Jane’s brows furrowed when she saw the previous luminous smile shine a little less. She wondered why, but she didn’t comment. “Alright, a salad is fine with me. Thank you, again. I didn’t know you were a vegetarian, Evie.”

"Oh yeah, never had a taste for murder." Evie jumped out of her seat to go order Jane's hot chocolate and two salads feeling uneasy ordering so much food. After it was all set she went back to her friend and ruffled her hair back. "Nough bout me, how're you doing?"

Jane couldn’t help but smile at the other girls constant generosity, something she deeply admired in Evie. Even if she said it was nothing, Jane knew she’d be sure to pay her back in some way. “You’re so sweet. I’ll have something to eat if you do. I’m not sure if I do look peaky, but if you say so, I trust your opinion. Whatever you get, I will, alright?”

Evie's smile was bright and generous but it faltered at the corners. "Of course Janey. You okay with vegetarian? I could really go for a salad."

  "Oh, you’re so kind Evie, may I have some hot chocolate. please? I promise I’ll pay you back when we get back I just didn’t feel I was in the mood for any and now it seems I am." 

"That wasn’t a very smart move on my part."
