A lot of people have been asking us, "What exactly is Evolution Movement about?" or "What does Growth from the Basics stand for?"
To answer those questions, Evolution Movement represents just that, Growth from the Basics.
In the description on our Facebook page, it states that we are a group wanting to make a difference in our community by sharing the passion and love for the art of dance.
Growth from the Basics derives from the idea of a dancer growing from the bottom-up. Meaning starting from the basics and foundations of dance and building themselves from just that. We are not necessarily describing the growth from Hip-Hop or "Urban" style dancing, but the idea of self expression through movement. We believe that once a dance is able to understand and be comfortable controlling their own body, they are able to take on different styles of dance and different levels of choreography.
Though we do grow from foundations, we do not necessarily have a primary focus on a specific style. We introduce various techniques that are essential to choreography, such as various across the floor drills, isolation, etc. We have talented dancers that are a custom to Popping, Breaking, Locking and House dancing, but our main focus as a team is choreography.
Though we have been around for awhile, we do not showcase ourselves often.
Like us, there are many teams that promote growth and motivation through community and support. But how can there ever be a community when there is no community to start with? I have never heard of a community that down talks another, yet alone down talking without knowing their facts. (Hence what is says on our shirts, "Know Your Roots.")
Let's put everything into perspective...
Imagine yourself in a situation where you had done a lot of work building a good reputation while gaining a large group of friends that you considered family over a year and a half... Now imagine ALL but one or two of them gone the next day, turned their backs on you and down talking you because of the other person they followed... Now imagine you and your two friends left starting everything you had built over from scratch, reinventing what you had built from the bottom up before but with a broken heart and a messed up reputation. THAT is what we grew from. Our motto Growth from the Basics not only comes from our vision, but our struggle as a team.
Now don't get us wrong, this may seem a little angry given the history but there is a difference between anger and determination. We are determined to prove our worth and show this "dance community" what we are really about. We don't focus on the negatives but rather feed off of it and let our dancing do the talking.
To give you a brief history lesson on Evolution Movement:
-The idea of Evolution Movement has been around since 2009 when we first started offering $5 drop-in classes that featured various choreographers
-Evolution Movement officially began as a dance group in early 2010.
-The fall of Evolution Movement happened late 2010 when over 75% of the members left to another team.
-The new beginning of Evolution Movement began in early 2011.
-By the end of the 2012 year, Evolution movement has had two auditions and had performed 3 different sets in numerous festivals and dance showcases. All three sets had completely different song selections and different student choreographed pieces incorporated in them. Did we mention that by this time we had held over 150 workshops?
-On January 5th, 2013 Evolution Movement will be having annual auditions for the year to prepare for local shows and competitions such as Rock the School Bells, World of Dance, Prelude Norcal and more.
