Whoās the first to wake up in the morning: Usually Derek, Hannah works the night shift at the hospital most of the time. If she gets back in time though, Derekās usually still in bed and heāll curl up with her for a little while before he gets up.
Whoās the one to make breakfast: Hannah, on the weekends, sheāll get up early to make all of Derekās favourites.
Whoās the one to serve the other breakfast in bed: Hannah, itās just one of those little things she likes to do for him.Ā
Who would suggest a quickie in the morning before work: Derek, though Hannah has her moments.Ā
Who suggests they both ditch work to lay around all day: Derek, sometimes he misses her while sheās working, so theyāll sometimes cancel all their plans and spend the day in bed. Of course, Hannah never complains about this.Ā
Who chooses the movies: They take it in turns to choose.Ā
Who initiates kissing during the movie, thus distracting the other from the movie all together: Theyāre both guilty of it, especially if Hannah curls up right beside him or in his lap, they get carried away with nuzzling each other and neck kisses.
Who orders lunch: Again, something they both do.
Who steals food from the otherās plate without asking: Derek steals from Hannahās, werewolves have big appetites and she never minds.
Who curls up next to the other and falls asleep due to a full tummy: Hannah, their alone time often ends up going pear shaped after Hannah eats too much ice cream and wants nothing more than to snuggle up and sleep.Ā
Who distracts the other from trying to work at home: They both do it. If Hannahās spent too much time researching, Derek will often come up behind her and distract her with kisses, the same goes for if heās working out.Ā
Who asks to go get ice cream like a five year old: Hannah, always. Ice cream has always been her favourite.Ā
Who takes pictures of their partner eating ice cream: Derek, though Hannah takes pictures of Derek when she can get away with it.Ā
Who makes a sexual joke about the dripping ice cream on their partnerās face: Hannah, probably.Ā
Who cooks dinner: Hannah usually, though they often cook together.Ā
Who cleans up the kitchen afterwards: They both do.Ā
Who stays up until 2 reading: Derek, Hannahās usually too tired so sheāll snuggle up to his side while he attempts to balance a book in one hand.Ā
Who stares at their partner while their sleeping: They both have their moments, depending on who falls asleep first.Ā
Who kisses their partner while they sleep: Again, something they both do. Derek will press kisses to her head, whilst Hannah will usually kiss across his chest, collarbone and shoulders.

āI know youāre trying to protect me but Iām no damsel in distress ā Iāve got this.ā
āI know you arenāt a damsel--it still doesnāt mean you have this. Making a circle of black powder isnāt going to help you against assassins.ā
āInformation in books can be outdated though - the world is a constantly changing thing. How do you know one google search wouldnāt bring you up some newly discovered information?ā
āNewly discovered information that can be found in the newspaper, heard on the radio, or seen on television--all which are as easily accessible.ā
āYou do realise researching things is so much easier using a computer, right? Speaking as a teacher, of course.ā
āDonāt teachers tell their students to use reliable sources for projects? Books are far more reliable than the internet.ā
It was incredibly annoying how determined he sounded, like it wasnāt open for suggestions. Lydia didnāt bother showing how much it annoyed her, it was all over her face. Ā Itās not the first time sheād been send away, or kept safe from the fight. Then again, never before she could actually help. This time she could. āāItās funny how you make it sound like I donāt have a say in this.āā She muttered sarcastically, she had no intention in making a fuss about this. But thereās no way sheās just going to sit back in Scottās house. Alone. Doing nothing but anything she could come up with to kill time while her friends are risking their lives. Again.
āāDerek, I can help. Iām not going anywhere.āā
Of course it was risky, and thereās still so much they donāt know about this killer. āāWe agreed on doing this together, weāre going to finish it together.āā She didnāt mind calling him whenever she feels something, or hears something, or anything other banshee related, especially now. That was.. actually kind of comforting. Kind of.. sweet.Ā
She figured paying Scott a visit to tell him personally wouldnāt be a problem, unless he was with Stiles. Whoās most likely going to make a big deal out of her staying around as well. The only ones in the pack who might be on her side on this one, is whoever looked at the bigger picture. That would be Derek. Or Scott.
"Because you don't," Derek answered sternly. "You can help by staying out of it. By ensuring that you canāt be found and can't be harmed." Danger wasn't something they could always protect each other from, past experiences proving how inevitable it truly was. But this time, the wolf believed he could keep the banshee safe, and he wouldn't miss that chance, wouldn't risk the girl being in danger again. She had already been used by the nogitsune, had been forced to watch as her best friend lost her life--that couldn't happen again.
Her reminder made Derek sigh in irritation, jaw clenching as he tried not to snap at her. "That was before we knew what the killer was after." Before they knew her life could be directly in danger. "It's too risky for you to remain involved." He took a step closer to her, expression softening. "You are a possible target--don't put yourself in unnecessary dangers. Lydia."
When they fished her out of the water, she was shivering from the drop in temperature. The salt water pressing on the collection of cut and gashes made the climb to the helicopter unbearable. Cora just kept her hand pressed along her left side to try and ease the discomfort that came as she breathed in and out. Oh yeah, she definitely bruised a few ribs if not something a little more serious.
Scott and Stiles were in the back seats and she maneuvered herself to stay beside Stiles. Scott didnāt seem to mind⦠not that he had much of a choice since he needed to keep his leg propped up a certain way. They suffered a damn lot this battle but the best news was that no one died and she supposed they needed to be thankful.
From the comms, she learned Erica and Boyd were alright, just having picked up Allison who may or may not have a concussion. Scott probably fractured his leg and Stilesā¦. well he kept insisting he was fine but Cora knew him well enough to know he was in pain, especially how he nursed his arm close to himself.
He rearranged herself though, wrapping one of the rescue blankets around her before resting his other arm across her shoulders and bringing her close in a way that made Cora finally convince herself that they were safe. At least, for now⦠He smelt of blood, sweat and a bit like burnt circuitry but who was she to complain? After all, she was the one drenched from head to toe. She stayed quiet until they returned to base, both processing the dayās events.
Sitting on the infirmary bed, Cora had a dry shirt across her lap as Melissa wrapped a bandage around her torso to help secure the soft tissue around her ribs. Nothing broken or fractured but sheād be sore for a bit. Her eyes focused on her boyfriend on the adjacent bed whose gash on the shoulder was being treated. Cora inhaled sharply when Melissa pushed down. āChrist,ā Cora muttered before forcing a smile to reassure Stiles. āIām fine, fine,ā she immediately said. He still got out of the bed to sit beside her, not that she minded. āSmall price,ā she muttered as she pressed her lips to his when Melissa finished and began packing up the medical kit.
āI thought I was going to lose you,ā she mumbled, positioning herself to rest her head upon his shoulder. When she peered up, she saw her fears reflected in his brown eyes. They were so much closer to losing one another and either would admit. It was too close. Far, far too close. Cora expected some half-assed comment but instead Stiles kissed the top of her head and tightened his hold around her. It made inhaling ache a little more but she didnāt mind. It probably the most āappropriateā time for him to hug her, given the fact she was only wearing her sports bra and pants⦠She didnāt care. She was just too damn glad none of them were six feet people.
āI love you so much,ā Stiles told her, brushing her lips across hers. āEven if youāre suicidally crazy, Hale.ā
Cora just made a mumbling comment and rested her eyes briefly. āWe kicked kaiju ass, thatās what matters.ā
At the Generalās entrance, she pushed herself off the bed in a saluting stance, biting back the pain as she slipped the t-shirt on. āSir,ā Cora greeted, noting Stilesās retreat back to his own bed when Derek followed Deaton into the bay. She knew she was going to get a scolding, probably disciplinary action yet every time he reprimanded her she felt like a child.
The woman held her tongue though, aware of the consequences if she spoke out of turn and then⦠he laid the worst consequence on her. Suspension. And she knew she was aiming for an unpaid leave before this mission and this would help her plans but she couldnāt swallow this decisionā¦. Cora supposed she had no reason to keep quiet anymore. āWith all due respect, every life in the unit was already endangered.ā She wanted to yell, argue and she would if it didnāt hurt to raise her damn voice. So she just rested her hand on her side as she collected herself. āFine.ā
ā⦠Fine,ā she repeated trying to maintain some part of her dignity. āBut everyone made it back alive and it sure as hell wasnāt because of your leadership.ā
Looking at the alcoholic drink in her brotherās hand, Cora knew she had to keep her word. Maybe it was appropriate timing all this happened. Cora didnāt want her brother going back to numbing himself. āIn light of my suspension, I formally request to take time off base. Iāll submit the paper work later tonight.ā
Derek could see how being reprimanded hurt Cora, how being suspended hurt more. It wasn't fair, no matter how much military equipment was damaged or how bad she made Deaton look. It had been careless, it had been against orders, but she had been successful. She lead her unit to victory, ensured the threat didn't reach the city, that innocent lives were not lost--that had to count for something.
He wanted to say something, to argue and demand Cora remained in duty. Still, when the brunette assured it was fine and announced her request to leave, Derek couldn't bring himself to do it. He understood their duty, the importance their involvement had in the human survival, in the safety of Earth. He believed in her words, knew she was right, wanted to do something worth while with his damn life.
But the simple thought of being somewhere else, somewhere safer--Derek couldn't deny how appealing that was. Memories wouldn't hunt them, they could avoid the destruction kaiju's caused for at least a while. They could focus on each other, on rebuilding their relationship, on gaining what they had lost in the past five years. He wanted to be brave, to fight the fight he had been prepared for all of his life to, but Derek wanted must of all to have Cora safe.
General Deaton, who had remained strangely quiet as Cora spoke, had other plans in mind however. "Don't bother, Ranger Hale; your request is denied." The stern expression never left his features, eyes looking over Cora for a moment. "Your suspension is a punishment, not an opening to take a vacation."
Derek finally moved, taking Cora's side. "You can't do that. She's a pilot, one you just suspended--she doesn't need to stay."
Deaton didn't bother to even glance at Derek, eyes kept on the brunette. "She is above all a soldier of this corpse, one who's under my command--she will stay where I deem her necessary." He paused, raising his hand to shush anyone in the room who attempted to speak. "Enough of your potential has been wasted, Ranger Hale--you don't need more distractions." On that moment, he did look at Derek, earning a glare from the younger man.
As Deaton tried to step away from the siblings, Derek grabbed his shoulder, forcing him to turn. "You bitter old fuck! You think your abuse of power and shitty parenting skills are gonna keep us here?" He stepped closer to him, faces inches from each other. "Why don't you just admit what this is really about? Afraid she'll be just like Talia; better than you at the only thing you've ever wanted?"
Deaton kept his gaze locked with Derek's until he stopped talking, looking at the beer can, a disgusted expression appearing his face. "You should really stop drinking, Derek. You aren't exactly making your mother very proud."
That was the last straw, the Hale son crushing the beer can in his hand, the other curling into a fist--he had wanted to punch him for years, and on that moment, Derek saw no reason not to.
Rileyās shoulders dropped as SOON as she found herself sitting in the car. She took the charger a bit too QUICKLY, but considering her condition, that could be EXCUSED.Ā She exposed her wrist, running her finger over it for a plug to ELEVATE itself from her skin. She plugged the charger in and her eye color gradually came back, a shade of CRIMSON painting her cheeks a few seconds afterwards.Ā
Derek watched the girl closely, confusion growing with every second that passed. Though she seemed like any other, there was no way she was human. Her pupils, the absence of scent, the way her skin moved; the girl was sitting next to him literally charging like a damn cell phone! Before he could stop himself, the question bouncing around his head made it out through his lips, green eyes settled on her face. "What the hell are you?"
āIn the morning. Iām just moved more than I have in ages combinedā¦ā
āStiles! Why did you leave Eichen?ā
āNot really, no. My mom spent a lot of time Ā āpartyingā and I didnāt know who my dad was, Ā let alone meet him, until recently. He kind Ā of skipped over that life lesson too.ā
ā--A simple no would have sufficed.ā
āIām gonna.. Iām gonna go to sleepā¦ā
āNo.Ā What you need to do is explain why you are outĀ here.ā
She took a step towards the bench her brother was sitting but immediately halted in her step when Derek snapped at her. Cora visibly flinched at his words and dropped her eyes to the ground. Was he mad at her? He had to be because Derek never ever talk to her like that. Sure there were times when he was mad at her and heād get grumpy but she could smell it⦠sense it. His emotions were all over the place and her nose wasnāt the best but pack understood pack.
And even if he wasnāt acting weird and the adults didnāt shoo her away from him, Cora could sense something was wrong with her big brother, she felt it in her gut.Ā āā¦you okay?ā she tried to ask in a hushed voice, only taking a few more steps to the bench, lingering by the row of lowers Derek faced.Ā
Something was wrong. The pup got the sense of that weeks ago. Derek was so happy. He had that happy, goofy smile and sure he wasnāt home that often and Cora wished he was⦠The girl realized that she rather have an absent big brother than a big brother who was so unhappy.Ā
āAre you sad because practice didnāt go well? Did you fail a test? Mom wonāt get mad if you try harder⦠Please donāt be sad.ā
Derek clenched his jaw when Cora flinched at his reply, forcing himself to take a deep breath, to keep his emotions under control. His little sister had no fault in what had happened, in what was happening. She was only eight years old, their mother not doubting the small brunette would understand but not wanting her to do so. Cora didn't need to be exposed to such tragedies, not yet, not when her training hadn't even reached the part where the third possible color of a wolf's eyes was explained.
Lying to her however, pushing her away because it was easier; it hurt Derek. She could annoy him, could cling to his and Laura's side and make both of them snap at her to leave. Still, Cora was his little sister, someone he cared for and loved unconditionally. He had been there when she was born, had held her in his arms as her tiny limbs stretched for the first time. He had to protect her, from everything he possibly could, just like Laura protected him.
At first, Derek stayed quiet, simply staring at the ground, aware of Cora getting closer but ignoring it. He couldn't push back the bitter chuckle that left his lips at her words, her innocence amusing in a hurtful way. "--Not that simple, Cor." How he wished it was though, how he truly wished so...
Though he had promised to keep quiet and didn't intend to give the girl details, Derek didn't want to completely fabricate a lie. "...I made a mistake...A very very bad one."
Hannah couldnāt help but snort a laugh at his response, giggles falling from her lips, softly and easily. āWolves have faster metabolisms, you know that ā besides, with the way you work out, I doubt it.ā It was an indirect compliment of his physique, one she was sure heād get. Apparently, the emissary couldnāt help herself, flirting had become second nature around him. It was refreshing and still felt unfamiliar in a way, it had been a while since sheād opened up like this to anyone. Whilst not fake by any means, Hannah had learned that wearing her heart on her sleeve all the time never ended well. For some reason though, she felt as though she was safe to be herself with Derek, at least to some extent. Her intentions were good and her heart pure and after all the wolf had been through, she very much doubted heād try to take advantage of that or hurt her in any way. Bright eyes narrow in amusement as her elbow comes up to rest against her thigh, chin resting in the palm of her hand as she cants her head in amusement, her dark tresses falling to the side. āYou can take it which ever way you want, love. Theyāre just cupcakes.ā Her tone of voice however, suggested there was far more to it than that.
"You watch me work out?" A cheeky grin curled his lips, eyebrows rising and relaxing again. "I knew your visits had ulterior motives." Derek didn't question it too much, but he was aware of how easy it was to show a different side of himself to Hannah, how comfortable it felt to do so. They were simply friends, but still a side of him saw the dangers in that--it could lead down a path that had brought the wolf so much suffering in the past. It wasn't rare for him to fall easily, to pursue the person no matter the wrong done to him before. Another part however, obviously the louder one, didn't see anything wrong with the possibility. Hannah was pure of heart, had proven so time after time, her past giving her an understanding of Derek's most around him couldn't begin to grasp. If the possibility was on the table, would it really be so wrong to take it? "Love? You are just digging yourself further and further into the hole."
Brown eyes shifted up from their spot on the floor to look up at Derek as he spoke. āI know thatā¦ā she said quietly, lips pressing together in a soft smile, almost forced. āBut I donāt want to move. Yeah, maybe Iām safe there, but I doubt it. I was before because I didnāt know supernatural creatures were real, that I was one of them, but everything is different nowā¦ā she explained. āI mean, here the wolves I know havenāt tried to hurt me, you guys are more pacific, what if in New York there are crazy, psycho wolves? They would probably know that they donāt get along with foxes, a trickster spirit by the way, and try to kill me or somethingā¦ā she explained. It was true though. She dindāt want to move and start over in the supernatural world, things went just fine here, why move somewhere else and start over and probably get herself killed?
Derek listened to Kira attentively, forcing himself to ignore the scent of the food, waiting for her to finish before speaking. "I lived in New York for while, and I can vouch the controlling pack is actually far more pacific than most of the humans in the city." Not every Alpha would have allowed a recently turned one to stay in their territory, no matter the legacy their last name carried. Of course, the wolf understood the general idea of the fox's statement--her life wouldn't be the same there now that she knew, the friendships she formed in Beacon Hills not guaranteed back east. A sigh left his lips, walking past Kira onto the living area of the loft. "So your plan is to stay out of your house for as long as it takes for them to forget the idea?"
