Fukami had never, not truly, felt his dislike of Samekichi had been entirely justified. He had felt it was mere jealousy, something stupid. It was like ordering food with a pickle and then throwing out the pickle, it was silly.
But now, as an almost mortified feeling twisted inside him as the shark smiled, he never felt such fury. Was Samekichi so blind that he wouldn’t listen? Fukami felt a kind of sadness, he had tried, tried to make life easier for Wadanohara, tried to talk to the shark. He would not, however, divulge information about Wadanohara if she did not want Samekichi to know.
Fukami nodded.
"Very well," he said quietly. He knew it was wrong, he knew he should hold his tongue and walk away. He couldn’t, however….
"But………" he started, "I want you to know………. I don’t trust you," that was a given, and he assumed the shark already knew that.
"I don’t trust you with her, and…………… Wadanohara has always been too kind………. To look past it…… To look past your failures.”
Fukami glared at Samekichi. He had never understood the shark, never understood how he could fail Wadanohara so repeatedly, and still be forgiven.
