Ruby's fist collided with Blair's forearm, the impact sending a violent shockwave across the empty planet they had found for their spar. Mountains cracked in the distance, while dust and broken stone rose from the ground. Yet neither Vacosian bothered to look. Blair swung Excaliburn towards Ruby's side, only for her to deflect it using one half of Rhongomyniad.
"You're gettin' slower, B."
"You're mistaken as usual, Darkness."
Ruby grinned and prepared to rush the king again, but her expression suddenly disappeared from her face. Blair noticed it a second later and her stance loosened, Excaliburn lowering as both of them went back to their base form and turned their heads towards the same point in the sky.
It was far beyond the system they were standing in, a few dozen galaxies away, yet the energy reached them as if it were standing directly behind them. It was massive, but that was not what made Ruby stop. The energy felt wrong. Dense, yet ancient and almost unnaturally still, as though whatever possessed it was deliberatively hiding the full extend of its strength.
"I would have to be dead not to."
A lone figure sat among the remains of a ruined world.
The figure remained completely still, her head lowered and her face hidden beneath the shadow cast over her. There were no other living energies nearby, only her own, surrounded by the fading traces of countless others.
Ruby and Blair focused harder.
Slowly, she looked upward.
Her eyes locked directly onto them.
Ruby's body immediately tensed, her fingers curling into a fist without her noticing. Blair tightened her grip around Excaliburn, her expression hardening as Moron continued to glare through the impossible distance separating them.
No, it was more than that.
Moron’s mouth slowly formed into a small, knowing smile before the connection between them suddenly vanished.
