              Cheren turns in the opposite direction, and beckons her to follow him. Already, he has a place in mind where the two of them can talk in peace. The place in question is a café by Aspertia’s famous look out point. It is quiet and small and serves the best sandwiches (in Cheren’s opinion anyway) in the town. He insists that it is not that far of a walk before going on himself. He checks if she’s following, oh no, what if he’s being too overbearing –

              The two arrive in a matter of minutes.

Mei has already grown accustomed to the awkward entity that was Cheren. It has always been something she had grown to admire about him, that he is able to show all his different sides to him. When he’s doing his duties as a gym leader and during battles, he’s always has a notable passion that any trainer could detect.

Outside of that, the elder was such an adorable bean that was so hesitant with what he does, such as now, while leading her to a calmer atmosphere so they’d be able to speak one-on-one. Mei could tell he was being careful in the way he spoke and she almost wanted to laugh at how adorable Cheren made himself.

As they both made it to the café that he decided to take her to, she already felt a sensation of coffee drifting up into her nose. “You were so right about this placing being so calming. I felt it when we first walked in,” she whispered to him with a smile as they were placed in a booth by a waitress, leaving them to decide what they both wanted.

Hmm…what shall I have? I really haven’t been to a café in a while…

When the waitress finally makes her way back to the table, she wasn’t so surprised to see that Cheren was giving his order to her. When it came to her turn, she hummed nervously before opening her mouth. “I would like a French vanilla latte and a buttered croissant please?” She watched as the waitress put her order in her notepad before sighing in relief as she walked away for the second time.

I HATE THE SUN.

Said the obnoxious Qwilfish-headed boy sitting on a bench under the hot sun wearing a winter jacket and a bottle of water on his hand that probably already went warm by now.

End of the year were always a pain to him because it meant massive heatwaves and downpours that didn’t really help cooling things down. Ah yes that also meant sleepless nights where even if you take your skin off it won’t solve a thing!!

All that was left for him was complain. Not that he saw a problem in that no one was around to hear him yell obcenities at a massive ball of fire miles away from where he was. if anyone was willing to listen to him, they should get an award.

Mei wasn’t all that fond of the continuous heat that the Unova summers brought her. They always consisted of her clothes being soaked in her sweat and her long hair sticking on the back of her neck. She thought the never-ending period of heat could be easily replaced with the calming rains that spring brings. But, you know, she couldn’t really control what the weather would be.

While slaving away through the path leading back to her hometown, she thought back to her childhood with both Hyu and Nate. When it would turn out to be one of those summers, the brown-haired girl smiled and remember how much Hyu use to complain to Nate about how much torture it was for them to just walk over to the local ice cream shop to cool off.

“Ahh, memories…”

As she neared the entrance of the town, she heard a familiar voice complain about all and everything wrong with the summer blaze. She inches closer to the voice and chuckles gently to realize her suspicions were right after all. “Is that the great Hyu I see complaining about summer yet again?”

Autumn has finally found its way to the Unova region. The warm colored leaves tenderly falling on the grass as it starts its own transformation. With the end of the year approaching rather quickly, Mei starts to reflect on what she has done for herself these past few months as she sits on a bench not too far away from her home, a small lake facing her from a distance.

"Now that I think about it…have I accomplished anything really this year?” The brown-haired girl pondered to herself, tapping a single finger on her chin as she thinks deeply of the things she has done during the last ten months. Looking around at the landscape that surrounded her, she couldn’t help but feel a calming feeling as she studied the leaves touch the water’s surface, tiny ripples vibrating as each hits gently.

“Why can’t life be as easy as gliding of the branches of the trees like those leaves,” she says, chuckling at how ridiculous she must sound to anyone watching her.

Then again, she is talking to herself out loud, so, of course, she probably sounds pretty crazy. “But, of course, life cannot be how you planned for it to be, can it?” Groaning inwardly at herself, she leans her head back on the bench to stare up at the sky, trying to gather her thoughts into one.

“Why am I such a mess nowadays…?”

4. Gave your character a random item.

Harumi the Stoutland is a Pokemon that is very loyal to Mei in and outside of battle. So, being that she still has the canine instinct inside of her head, she will want the thing that most animals crave when their owner expresses them proud of them they are… a treat. Harumi is, in fact, a good Pokemon, she can also be a bit of a sneak at times. And when it happens to be one of those times, then this gigantic dog will steal her trainer’s bag (yes, her bag), and hand it off to a person that seems willing to give her what she wants. That’s where you come into the picture. She will pretend that she’s lost with the bag in her mouth and hand it off to you to make sure you study the bag closely, extremely close. Harumi will then bark once she sees the thing she wants and will sucker you into giving her how many treats she wants until Mei comes calling for her. The huge pup will then snatch the bag (rude, isn’t she?) from your hands and retreat back to her trainer, facing another scolding from the young brown bunned girl yet again.

Kitchen Catastrophes in the Making | | May & Mei

May looked over the kitchen area, staring to dig around for some of the ingredients and pulling out her notebook. They would need to plan how this was going to go. She started writing down a list of ingredients, stuff they would need and check stuff off as she found it. She needed to be thorough about it, because missing one thing could lead to a disaster. And that was not something she wanted to deal with, not with a title on the line!

She hummed to herself, opening a couple drawers and cabinets, taking notes on what sort of supplies Mei had, and wow it was a ton. She hadn’t seen so many in a long time. She just made do with what she had, which was bare essentials for cooking and baking. “Definitely! Baking is always super fun! And doing it with someone else makes it that much more exciting!”

She handed Mei the rough outline of ingredients and even a recipe with instructions. She had done this for a long time, and with their combined knowledge, this cake was about to go down in great colors, ad great flavor! May turned on her heels, holding out the page to her partner. “So! I’ve got a skeleton to work with, that way we’ve got a game plan before we just start dumping stuff in the pan and hope it works. A list of ingredients is right there, and some other supplies we’ll need. Does what I have make sense? I mean we’ll probably change it up a couple times but this is just a test. Let’s get cracking, er, baking!”

Mei wasn’t surprised to see the younger completely taking over her kitchen space. It’s probably something she would actually do too if she went to May’s place. She watches as her cooking companion walks around the perimeter of the kitchen while jotting down a few notes before looking up to search for something else they might also need.

Even though this spontaneous partnership is for a pleasurable and calming baking competition, it’s just…well, they do plan to make a good cake and win. Let’s face it, Mei is a bit of a competitive angel, but she still would love to have a lot of fun baking with May too as well. Winning isn’t really everything for Mei, but… it would be nice to have something as a reminder for their hard teamwork.

May handed her the notes she was writing for the past fifteen minutes, the elder studying what had been written on the paper. “Ah, so this is what you’ve been doing?” Mei quickly looks up at her baking partner and gives her a genuine smile before looking back at the paper. “I really like what we got here so far May! After we find the right recipe, then I can draw out a design for us to go by, ok?”

              Mei appears to be deep in thought; Cheren can read expressions well, he must be able to, when he works with people on a constant basis. Unfortunately, he is no mind reader. But whatever thoughts that preoccupy her mind slip away when he speaks to her, as her wistful composure gives way to the smallest of smiles. He knows, though – something troubled her for a second.

              He almost asks if there is something wrong, but he says nothing (for now).

              “ Oh no, you’re not taking up any of my time. If anything, I’m taking up all your time. Oh, and I do think you guys are cute together. Opposites do attract. ”

              As good as he is with reading emotions, Cheren is not good with hiding them. Especially for this situation. His cheeks turn a shade of crimson for what must be the umpteenth time in this chance encounter. He smiles, but hides it behind his hand.

              “ … thank you. She and I are really different, aren’t we? “

              Cheren often stood by the fact that people with similar interests did well together, rather than opposites. But the more he thought about it, Mei was right. He and May didn’t really share a lot of common ground. Their dynamic still worked, for whatever reason. Puzzling. He makes a mental note to find more similarities later.

              “ Oh. Look… if you’re not doing anything later or now, let’s catch up over a meal or something. It’ll be my treat. I haven’t seen my favorite challenger in a long time, and I’m interested to see just what it is you’ve been up to. “

Mei really hasn’t learned by now that letting her guard down around other isn’t really a bright idea. Especially if that person happens to be Cheren. It’s not even the fact that she doesn’t like showing her emotions or anything of that nature, but the fact that the elder has always been known to read others quite well.

I need to learn some control, don’t I? She gave a gentle sigh from her lips and looked back at Cheren to show she was still acknowledging his presence.

The one thing Mei could say about the elder was that he really was such an awkward bean around people. He’s such an intelligent person, but he isn’t quite able to hide any of his emotions. It was very evident when he blushed at the mention of May. It’s one of his many hidden charms people don’t try to notice.

“Oh. Look… if you’re not doing anything later or now, let’s catch up over a meal or something. It’ll be my treat. I haven’t seen my favorite challenger in a long time, and I’m interested to see just what it is you’ve been up to. “

The younger was a bit taken aback by the sudden invitation from the other, but it was still a dinner invitation. Honestly, who can turn away food? So… “Yes! I mean…yes, I think that’s a great idea. It’s better for us to talk then stand and all, isn’t that right?” Mei was trying not to sound too eager, but…

   A pair of eyes scanned across town, no sign of his informant or any clues leading to his sister. The teen sighed, resting with his back to the Pokémon Center. It had been quite a journey, but Felix’s hunt to find his sibling led him to this strange region and a rather gorgeous sight of a town, filled with many flowers. He couldn’t help but admire the city’s spectacular sight.

“This place is so beautiful..I’d definitely see sis live here.”

Mei could be a bit of an oblivious person, seeing as she wasn’t able to detect the voice that responded to her, only thinking of it as her head trying to mess with her. Even to that particular moment, the brown-haired girl still wasn’t aware of the other’s presence until she noticed a sudden shadow combine with hers. It was that moment that she decided it was time to look up and steady her gaze to the other figure in front of her.

“That may be so, but it’s easier said than done.”

“Oh, well I guess you were someone real, huh?”

I really need to work on not being so caught in my thoughts. Mei mentally noted to herself while quickly sitting up in the grass and giving the stranger a nervous smile. She guessed the other wasn’t that much younger than herself and didn’t seem too suspicious. Granted, she does have bad judgement skills, so she could be wrong, but she still had faith he was a fairly “good” person (or how good that anyone would get).

“U-Umm, hi, I guess. You can call me Mei and y-yeah! What about you? I mean, are you from around here?” She asked in a curious tone, trying not to pry too much in the other’s personal life.

Kitchen Catastrophes in the Making | | May & Mei

From the way that Mei talked and from her own experience with Cheren, she knew he was a wonderful Gym Leader. He was intelligent and kind, and there was always something about him that screamed ‘teacher’. She had thought about asking him to teach her a few things about battling, wanting to try it again after all but abandoning it after the Hoenn League. But that was for another time.

She had said she was in a shell, and that he broke her out of it. She could see it, and it made a lot of sense. He was always good at that sort of thing, she thought. It was nice to listen to Mei’s own trainer experience. Everyone had their own trials and battles as they traveled their home regions. And she wouldn’t mind getting back into battling, just to battle her friends for fun to see how they matched up. It was interesting to think about.

“It sounds like you had a great time on your journey. And I think that’s the most important thing, to enjoy what you’re doing, otherwise you’ll just be miserable. He’s really good at that, being a teacher and showing people the way.” She paused, a small smile and tiny blush creeping on her cheeks. Shaking her head to try and focus, she quickly followed Mei toward their next objective. “I’m so excited to get started! I mean it’s probably not going to be perfect the first time, but it’ll be a great challenge! They’ll be blown away, I just know it! Thanks for letting us use your place! I really appreciate it.”

Mei enjoyed having May for company instead of doing things on her own. It’s been awhile since she had a companion that was around her age, and she truthfully enjoyed her. Just hearing her talk about Cheren made her think back to the times she use to talk countlessly about Hugh and Kyouhei.

Ah, those two idiots…

She does think about the two endlessly, probably due to the fact that they’re both so hotheaded. The always try to outdo the other, causing them to leave from home countlessly just so they wouldn’t fall behind from each other. And Mei can do is…well, watch them. In a way, she wants them to notice her too, but…she knew it might be impossible to do so, in the state she’s in now that is.

“I’m so excited to get started! I mean it’s probably not going to be perfect the first time, but it’ll be a great challenge! They’ll be blown away, I just know it! Thanks for letting us use your place! I really appreciate it.”

The brownette was snapped out of thoughts and pulled back to reality with the younger trainer thanking her. “A’Ahh, no need for the thanking…! Besides, if we’re gonna enter, might as well have fun while doing it right?” She turns to look at May while having a wide grin appear on her face.

Mei was glad Cheren felt the same as she did towards battling. The both taught each other to have confidence with battling and advancing their skills continually. The brown-haired girl really felt happier running into the Gym Leader more than seeing her old friend…

Even if it sounds worst than it actually is…well, it did sound a bit harsh, she really couldn’t control what she felt deep within her heart. Honestly, she really wants to tell Kyouhei how she was feeling, why she was feeling so weary of him, and why she has been hiding things from him and Hugh for years.

“Sorry, I don’t mean to take up so much of your time. We really need to have lunch sometime and catch up. “

Cheren quickly snapped her out of her train of thought, putting a soft smile on her face so he wouldn’t see anything wrong with her. “Oh no, you’re not taking up any of my time. If anything, I’m taking up all your time. Oh, and I do think you guys are cute together. Opposites do attract.”

        ★ —  summer in unova is no better than any other season. the heat, stagnant and thick, draws sweat and inflicts lethargy; though, it’s difficult to be bitter about finally exposing himself to the first sunshine in a while. he’s spent too many months underneath a canopy — whether trees or looming buildings. 

 nimbasa city will have to do, standing as unova’s heart of entertainment and entrepreneurs, yet theaters and carnival rides yield no amusement. and certainly not in the daylight. the aimless wandering brings him to the city’s landmark — a ferris wheel, stories high and lit up in neon.

Sweaty palms? Check. Rosy cheeks? Check. Kyouhei face-to-face with her? Unfortunately, check.

Mei was already prepared with plastering that “genuine” smile that has been drawn on her face for almost a decade (amazing no one noticed this yet). Truthfully, Mei was happy to see Kyouhei, really, she was. However, the feeling was soon replaced with disappointment. Why did you take so long…? She shook her head and pushed back the feeling in order to create a calmer moment.

Why couldn’t she tell him about her years’ worth of lying? Was it so hard to be honest with him…? Sometimes, she couldn’t understand herself, but she knew lying was the only way to maintain their relationship. Without smiling, everything would be become different between them. So, she did just that and, to no surprise, he didn’t suspect a thing.

“I knew I’d find you again.”

“You haven’t changed at all, have you? Still the same kid that I watched from afar. Where have you been this whole time, considering every time I came home, your parents always said you flew off again.” She hoped the smile and the fact that Kyouhei could be a bit… well, dense, hid well the hurt that was unintentionally produced in her voice. She’d hope he would question her and started to give a realistic laugh so he wouldn’t have to either.

Mei has always been the type of person to be able to hide her feelings away from others. A person that never really told others how she felt in situations, hiding behind a façade that everyone knew well. However, no one would be able to see her true emotions… not yet.

To be frank, Mei herself didn’t exactly know why she started hiding her feelings from others. Maybe while she was a kid and she had feelings of being alone, her and Ayaka. She wasn’t as adventurous as both her older friends, but she still held similar curiosities as the two males. Because she wanted to grow closer to both her older friends, it’s probably why she started hiding everything dealing with sadness.

Over the years, it became natural to her to hide away these bad thoughts, in turn, keeping everyone close to her from knowing her true pain. Especially from Kyouhei.

Ahh Kyouhei…

Just thinking of his name left her feeling both happy and upset to a certain degree, but isn’t that what all close friends felt with one another? A question she would soon figure out for herself, quite sooner than later…

“Ahh, it’s been awhile since we’ve last been her, hasn’t it Ayaka?” She looked down at the fluffy Pokémon that she held in her tiny arms with a small grin, the Cinccino giving her trainer an excited nod in response. The last time she had been in Nimbasa City, a lot of things occurred on that day. It was pretty eventful, that’s for sure.

Humming gently to herself, she walked in the direction of the famed Ferris wheel that overlooked the city, she quietly stook in the line, obvious to the taller figure that stood in front of her. Studying his features from behind, she noted how much he overpowered her with how tall he stood compared to her. She also took notice to how familiar he seemed to her, even Ayaka sensed the feeling that they knew the stranger in front of her. Is it really…?

“K-Kyouhei…?”
